2020-2021 Toledo

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am reading some things here which appear unprofessional. Comparing Toledo to the insurgence on the US Capital building? We owe it to ourselves to begin practicing professionalism now. In professional practice, those words would not be tolerated. I only speak for myself, but I still say give some grace to the ADCOM and if you are that disgruntled...withdraw your app and go elsewhere.
Get off your high horse lmao

If a teacher forgets about hw at the end of class do you
A) remind them
B) let it go

You “owe” it to yourself to get a sense of humor. Life is stressful.

Literally very single person in this thread who doesn't have an acceptance/has Toledo as a high choice will jump through every hoop Toledo presents for the chance of getting in. This is an anonymous forum where people like to joke around.

Also the ADCOM is kinda inconsiderate for not communicating with their applicants, and there is no reason not to be frustrated with that. We have seen the election of a new president, a New Year, a Capitol riot, the president's inauguration, Lady Gaga and J Lo performing at his inauguration, the signing of 17 orders to reverse some COVID policies, and multiple COVID vaccines come out before Toledo has sent out a single II or update email.

Broken glass. Don't forget the broken glass some of us would walk barefoot through for an II or A

Joking around is awesome...I just have a different opinion about what I consider a joke. I know we are all stressed and eager, it in my opinion some frustration is turning to anger and that doesn’t help anyone. Let’s go back to being hopeful. I am not on a high horse...just being pragmatic. Being overtly mad at the ADCOM does nothing to make me feel better...so I choose to approach from a positive light. Is that so wrong of me?

You can stay positive as you wish, but calling other applicants ‘unprofessional’ because we are mad that nobody have received a single II while some other schools are almost done with their interview season is also inconsiderate. Toledo has all the power to email us and let us know. We both know that even if Toledo starts to send out IIs in march, they will still have no issue with filling their class with applicants who are on waitlists or prefer MD over DO. I’m sure Toledo is aware of this. I still think they have a great program, but not communicating with the applicants is just something that doesn’t look too good. Anyway, stay positive, that’s always good for you, but you can’t force others to feel the same way

In an attempt to entirely change the topic to something more positive, what is everyone's favorite movie/movie recommendation?

My recommendation is Soul if you can watch it. Pixar animations ftw 🙂

Dude! The main character from Soul was based on my middle school band’s teacher’s life! Totally cool.

A Bug’s Life is pure cinema, and both Martin Scorsese and I agree wholeheartedly on this.

The Witch lol... a lot of people don’t like it but I enjoy the creepy atmosphere and the “what if puritans were 100% right?” premise

Just watched a Korean comedy called "Extreme Job". It's about a bunch of cops who go undercover at a fried chicken restaurant in order to take down a drug kingpin...but it turns out they're better at frying chicken than police work. They have to deal with the sudden culinary fame while also trying to not blow their cover. It's hilarious. 100% recommend.

Gotta be Dr. Strangelove. Really anything by Kubrick is cheating though.

Honorable mention to LOTR.

Entirely different animation style, but Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse is incredible. I went into it expecting a kids animated Spider-man movie and it completely blew my expectations away. It's one of my favorite movies.

My Cousin Vinny, Ferris Bueller, or anything by Tarantino.

Pixar is great and Soul was beautifully made... however, it made me uncomfortable and triggered feelings of existential crisis for me so I didn't stick around to finish it. My sense of dread for the 2020-21 cycle probably didn't help.

We have a moratorium on Pixar films in our household for a similar reason. They're beautiful, well-written...and absolutely devastating. (Made the mistake once of thinking, "I'm feeling really homesick today, maybe I'll watch a movie. Oh, Up! I've been meaning to watch that. Looks fun!"...10 minutes later and I'm a sobbing, mucusy mess, lol)

I really enjoyed the King of Staten Island, it's pretty fun if you are fan of Pete Davidson. Also, I highly recommend Ted Lasso on Apple TV, easily one of my favorite shows of all time.

My favorite would have to be jurrasic park, the old ones they got me through my childhood nerd phase, like I was so into dinosaurs, that any given week day I would be wearing a t shirt for them, etc etc, hell I even tried to make my own dinontoys collection out of mud more times that I remember and screwed up our backyard enough that parents got mad but yeah..... And in another language category there's this hindi flick called mohobattein ( translated: love stories) it's old like in 2000s but it has griping storylines, has a mix of all and makes me cry and laugh at the same time.... You guys should try it with subtitles( if they don't annoy you).

I thoroughly enjoyed reading all of this thread, which I've spent the last couple of days doing. Going to continue the trend of dropping a little positivity below. This story beautifully captures what Toledo is all about-- making a lot out of a little.

I LOVE THIS CHRISTMAS WEED. I ALSO LOVE YELLING. MAYBE TOLEDO WILL HEAR US IF WE ONLY USE CAPS LOCKS FROM NOW ON??? WE SHOULD COORDINATE A MASS WHOLLY-CAPITALIZED UPDATE LETTER WAVE. I’LL START US OFF WITH SOME PROSE:

DEAR TOLEDO ADMISSIONS MEMBERS,

IT WAS SIX FATEFUL MONTHS AGO THAT I PLEDGED MY COMMITMENT TO YOU IN MY SECONDARY APPLICATION. I WANT TO LET YOU KNOW THAT EVEN THROUGH THE UNCERTAINTY OF THIS QUIET WINTER, MY LOVE HAS REMAINED STEADFAST...

Loved it until Kevin Spacey went full pedo creep. I can't separate the actor from the work in this case, especially when he probably sublimated his own personality and amoral deeds into his on-screen personality.
SAME. It’s scary how precise his personality was

I want to believe, but I've been burned before...

Didn't someone earlier in the thread say they contacted the school and the adcom's not meeting until the first week of February?

Oh absolutely agree. It may take a while for me to be able to watch it again. That's why I like to watch the original British version. One of these days I need to read his book.

When you watch the original (or read the book) keep in mind it was written by a long-time advisor to Margaret Thatcher.

On a completely unrelated note, I have, for some reason, developed an obsession with Sea Shanties. I blame this song.

Thank you for your interest in the MD program at The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences. The program that you applied to is very competitive and we had over 6000 applications for a limited number of interview positions.

The Medical School Admissions Office has reviewed and evaluated your application. I am sorry to inform you that we will not offer you an interview for a position in the 2021 entering class at The University of Toledo.

Since submitting your Toledo application, you may have already interviewed at and been accepted to another medical school program—If so, congratulations to you!

If you are an active candidate at another medical school, I wish you all the best for success in the current application cycle. If you do not secure a position at another medical school this year and decide to apply next year to our MD program, we would be happy to consider your application again.
