2020-2021 University of Washington

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hopefully you will hear back soon! Ugh I just hit week 2. I’ve already been put on my hold for another school so I’m really scared to hear back from this one

UW is not a school to use as a gauge of your application if you don’t receive a secondary or II and you’re OOR. It’s been mentioned a bunch in this thread but really cannot be overstated. Your merits, accomplishments, ability to narrate your interest in medicine, or even your connections to the state. They don’t matter if you’re OOR. They are only looking for 10 applicants (of ~7000 OOR apps) that come from disadvantaged backgrounds or have extensive work with underserved communities (this is not volunteering at a homeless shelter for a few years, it’s having a leadership position there. Or working with Americorp, etc). You may get the R pre-secondary from UW but it’s not a reflection on your application at all. It just means you may not fit the narrow criteria they’re looking for.

OMG Congrats! Was complete same day, hopefully I hear by the end of the week. Expectations low though (makes the rejection easier to handle) haha

Thank you!! I hope you hear back soon. I am still proceeding w/ a similar mindset, as I know it's so unlikely to get accepted OOR. Either way, I am excited to even have the opportunity to represent myself w/ a secondary. Good luck to all the other OOR folks (and of course to the WWAMIs applicants as well).... may the IIs be ever in ALL OUR favor woooo.

Read my already submitted secondary essays out loud a million times when sober and didn't notice a typo until one drunken night. whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

Writing drunk and editing drunk from now on. I'm looking at you, Hemingway.

And interview drunk, it'll make you feel more relaxed 😛

(Disclaimer: of course, please don't do that)

Also, typos won't tank your changes (speaking from personal experiences during this cycle).

It was more than a typo (flat out a different word completely) that changed the context of the sentence LOL. Hopefully they don't notice 😉.

I once took a calculus exam after a few beers. Nailed it.

Just received a secondary from UW oos! I didn't actually realize how difficult it is to get into uw from oos when I applied, so I'm honestly extremely surprised I received a secondary. What should I emphasize most when submitting?
Look at the website. That’s the best source for what they care about! 🙂

UW II just now (12:52 pm PST) ! IS and school alum. complete 9/2, LM 66.5. Title of email is: UWSOM Application: Review is complete for all those following.
Also to add to the info of others, the email mentioned this:

As a Washington applicant, you will either interview with either the Seattle or Spokane cohort during the dates below. Your interview location will be assigned based on your preferred site for the Foundations Phase. Applicants interviewing in Spokane are considered for the Spokane cohort, and if accepted, are committed to spending their Foundations Phase in Spokane. (For more information, please see the Foundations Site Preference page of your secondary application.)

Applicants will be scheduled based on when their application was complete. All interviews will be held virtually.

SEATTLE APPLICANT INTERVIEWS: A varied schedule from October 19, 2020 - February 26, 2021

SPOKANE APPLICANT INTERVIEWS: November 16-20, 2020 and January 25-28, 2021

congrats to everyone with IIs!! It looks like everyone was complete in early September. Did anyone have to submit residency verification? (Hopefully they get to verified applicants soon!!!) :scared:

There was a residency tab I had to fill out, but I'm considered in-state for WA so didn't have to show proof. Hopefully you'll get good news soon!

Thanks! Congrats! I hope so, too. I am considered in-state but have only been here for a few years and had to send a 70 page packet to prove it. Complete at the end of September so I am hoping they just haven't gotten to my app, yet!!

PS interviewing at OUWB soon and your info about their meeting dates and decision release was SO helpful. Thanks for easing the nerves of us other neurotic pre-meds.

Congrats to all those receiving IIs!! Do you mind sharing what dates were available for interviews?

They haven’t posted interview schedules yet! (Aside from the general date ranges for each cohort). The email said they will send out information for scheduling in 2-3 weeks.

The email said they are sending scheduling emails 2-3 weeks in advance, and that “applicants will be scheduled based on when their application was complete.” So it sounds like we all got the invite at once but scheduling is going to be staggered.

The first interview date is Oct 19th for the Seattle cohort so I wouldn’t be surprised if some people already received scheduling invites.

Edit: interviews—> invites

+1 for Spokane cohort. Hard to decide if I want to stick with Spokane or switch to Seattle. Spokane has 60 seats and interviews about 100 students each cycle. Those odds look nice. On the other side, Seattle interviews about 450 students for 90 MD spots, but Seattle is home haha.

80 MD spots in Seattle. 10 MSTP and 10 OOR students.
