how long did it take for people to hear back about a secondary after sending in the mission statement?
I'm still waiting (submitted mission 8/30 and received it 8/28)

edit: last week someone received secondary invite 9/10 after submitting 8/26 though, so on the order of 2 weeks? *hopefully*

OOS applicant. Received this last night:

"Thank you for applying to the University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM)! We have received your AMCAS application, and conducted a preliminary review of your materials. In order to continue in our process, you will need to take CASPer, a situational judgement test. If you have already taken CASPer, make sure that your score will be released to the UWSOM. It can take about 3 weeks for the score to become available to schools."

Recently sat for the CASPer so hopefully a secondary is on the way soon.

I also received the same message, did they ask you to write a mission statement?

Talked to admissions, and they gave me some figures for OOR applicants:

~ 6000-7000 applicants
~ 3000 receive mission statement essays
~ 100-150 are sent secondaries
~ 60-100 are interviewed
~ 30-40 are accepted
~ 10-20 matriculate

Out of all the schools I've applied to, UW has definitely been the most considerate. From their waived (already cheap) secondary fee to their abundantly resourceful website, interactive social media, and A1 admissions staff, it's (to some degree) humanized this brutal process for me. It would be such an honor to go here!

Having to read 3000 mission statement essays... bless their hearts. They are so human and approachable. Maybe I need to move to Washington... it's only 4 miles north, and yet, so far!

Thanks so much for getting this info.

Yeah I did. I got an email to complete the mission statement like 4 days after receiving the CASPer email.
so you mean once they received your CASPer score then they sent you an email to complete the mission statement letter. I took my CASPer on 9th Sep and waiting for the mission statement, or maybe they don't need my mission statement...lol

Yeah, I took the CASPer Aug 23 and received the mission statement email on Sep 3. Don't count yourself out 🙂

For WWAMI applicants, how long did it take after getting residency confirmation for UW to update the status in your secondary?

I’m scared too! Did people OOR that got a secondary also have a two week turn around?

In the receipt email for mission statement submission, it says it takes from 5 to 8 weeks for them to review for secondaries for OOR, so I don’t think anyone OOR has received a secondary yet

OOR secondary received! So grateful!! It was about 3 weeks after submitting the mission statement essays.
COngratulation!!! I am waiting for the mission statement. can you please guide me on how you wrote the mission statement because it is hard to get secondary for OOR.

I don't know that I have any sage advice! I just tried to answer the prompt, connecting my life experiences to their mission. I realize that might not be very helpful. I wrote a lot initially and then cut out as much as I could that wasn't AS relevant to their mission to get it within the word count. So based on my n=1 experience, just be straightforward and address the prompts. I have heard of people trying to work in information about ties to the state and how that hasn't really helped people, so I didn't bother trying that at all. Good luck and best wishes!

Submitted my OOR Mission Statement on 9/7, this school would be an absolute dream. Hoping to get a secondary but not holding my breath :corny:

Would you mind sharing your stats? I know they aren't really a stat heavy school but I'm just curious. And congratulations!!!

Do you have to hit all 3 of their mission statement things for OOR? Like do you have extended service to underserved AND be of disadvantaged status?

For OOR you have to be pretty exceptional and fit their mission statement to a T to where they couldn't dream of passing you up. Not trying to be discouraging, just the facts. UW explicitly states they recruit residents of the 5 state region to train and practice in the region. I think they matriculate like 10 students OOR each year out of no shortage of applicants

Late to this thread, but how long did it take OOS people to receive the mission statement email/pre-2 rejection email? I submitted about 3 weeks ago.

Wow just got that Pre-mission statement R haha. What are the odds lol. Thanks for the help!
I’m sorry 🙁 there’s lots of schools out there though. I have a bad feeling I’m going to be getting that pre II R soon

but I guess the 3 week rule to hear back is accurate

Received Mission statement request 8/20. Submitted 8/24. Silence since and I am at 4 weeks today!

Have any MD applicants gotten an interview invite? I know they’ve sent out quite a few MD/MSTP but I haven’t heard of any plain MD invites yet

Last year IIs started sending on September 6th after secondaries were sent starting August 2nd. Given we were sent secondaries in the first week of September (September 1st), it's likely we'll be waiting till beginning of October for II invites.
edit to add: According to this , IIs will be sent beginning in October. So let's buckle up and enjoy the wait, hoping that 2 people think we're all good enough for UWSOM 🙂

just got so excited because i got an email from UW and I'm still waiting for my residency to be approved...... and it was a notification that I have been enrolled a new violence prevention online course??? did anyone else get this? i'm so confused haha.

It was accidental apparently and UW IT is looking into it 🙂
Or maybe UW wanted to give us all hypertension by sending it?

Has anyone received an II yet? I'm in-state and submitted the day the secondary was released (MD only, btw)
