2020-2021 Vermont

@mmchick

I was wondering how UVM has been handling distribution and prioritization of the COVID vaccine for medical students? Have M3/M4s been able to receive it, and where are M1/M2s on the priority order? Thank you so much once again!

I believe the most recent announcement has been that a shipment has come in for “medical personnel” which UVM considers all medical students to fall in that category (M1-4). So starting Monday, we should be able to sign up if we’d like. This is probably a benefit of being in Vermont where there is just a smaller population ultimately needing the vaccination as well as UVMMC being the major hospital for the state.

That's great to hear! Thanks for sharing this update with us.

Is location a big deal for this school? Im from NY and was really hoping for an interview here (Submitted in July) and just haven't heard anything. I even interviewed at some very strong schools in the mean time but the location of Vermont is really intriguing to me. This process makes no sense to me lol. Wondering if there's anything I can do to express my interest in the meantime?

I thought I read that ~80% of the student body is from out of state, so being from NY shouldn't put you at a disadvantage on that alone.

Ok cool thanks for the info. Guess I just wasn't a good fit for them. Oh well

So where ummm are those decisions at?
I interviewed in the middle of December, they told us that the absolute earliest we will hear back is the end of January, and that they are planning to put many more people on the waitlist this year, since they are getting rid of their high priority wait list. They even told us that everyone who interviews should expect to be on the waitlist for at least some time :/

Yeah they said the same thing in early December

Thanks for the response! That is absolutely not ideal haha but it is what it is. Hopefully we all hear good news soon!

Could anyone provide some insight on what the MMI is like? Are the questions typical CASPER like questions with an ethical basis or "what would you do in this scenario" style? Are there any normal interview questions, like why UVM or why medicine?
Do you get 2 minutes to read the question and 6-8 to answer?
Any assistance would be appreciated. I have my interview tomorrow and this will be my first MMI.

Unfortunately we all signed a confidentiality agreement and aren't supposed to give details of how UVM structures their MMI. Practicing a variety of MMI-style questions is your best bet to prepare for your interview. Good luck!

Second this! But don't stress too much it was a very pleasant MMI interview and the interviewers were all very friendly and ease to engage in conversation with. Good luck!

hey congrats!! im from NY too. By any chance, do you have any regional connection to Vermont?
thanks! NY gang! I actually have no connection and i've only been to lower VT once. I went to undergrad in upstate NY, so I made an effort to convey that I've been in a more rural setting since I actually now prefer rural and suburbs to the city.

Thanks for the positive messages y'all. I was super stressed out during the whole thing but fortunately all the staff and interviewers were incredibly nice and accommodating. Best of luck to everyone interviewing in the future.

when do they send zoom links for the interview? my interview is tomorrow and have not received a link yet
You should've already received it in a previous email with the subject "Interview Day Information." Just scroll down it should be there, don't worry I missed it too and had a mental breakdown haha

Did anyone get information about if the waitlist is expected to have more or less movement this year compared to previous years now that there’s no HPWL? Or are the same number of people likely to be accepted from the waitlist?(Please no personal random guesses lol)

Hey everyone, does anyone know if there is a FB group for the incoming class?

You should find it by searching for "Larner College of Medicine Class of 2025" in FB. There's not much activity there yet.

Does anyone know when scholarship information is coming out? Or when it did last year?

At my interview, they said that there is going to be significantly more movement on the waitlist because they got rid of the HPWL. They said that a majority of applicants should expect to be on the waitlist for at least some period of time. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much! <3

After your interviews, when did you get your link to fill out the two surveys/campus choice? I interviewed 1/15 and did not receive a link yet. Thanks!

I received mine a few hours after the interview finished. I'm sure you'll get them this morning maybe it was just because it was a Friday afternoon

Hmmm... I received the email with the link within two hours of my interview concluding. You should double check your spam but if it's not there, you might want to contact admissions about that.

I figured something was wrong. Thanks. I had to reschedule my interview last minute and I didn't receive my interview zoom link in the same time frame as everybody else. I will shoot them an email.

ahhh they got rid of the HPWL this year? Must have been because they told people for years everyone gets off it and then that didn't happen last cycle lol
