Can someone tell me how iowa determined/ verified in state residency? I can’t find much on the site and the registrar doesn’t answer their email

They use the same determination as U of Iowa undergrad.

Does anyone have insight about the decision in January/final pool? All applicants will hear something in January... is that A/WL/R/final pool? And what does the final pool mean? Does that mean like still not having decided if its A/WL/R and that we will find out in March? Thanks!

My understanding from previous SDN years is that towards end of January you are emailed either way with an R or final pool. Then no emails go out until March when everyone finds out at the time time if they are A/WL/R at that time. They review all the apps a second time during this period.

wait, so no A's until march? wtf?

I think they release A's still throughout the next couple weeks, but by the end of the month they'll stop until March. I think a week after the last interview date or something like that is when they stop sending A's this month

Interviewed recently and was told that we'd be reviewed in the final pool of candidates and we should expect to hear back on March 15. They're not going to send out decisions weekly anymore

Does anyone know if the interviewers have access to our essays? I know they are blind to our stats but was curious as to whether they could see the rest of our application.

My interviewers did not give me the impression that they had access to my essays or file.

It's mostly closed file

It's mostly closed file. They have a little bit about you, like your undergrad institution and major, name, etc. They don't read your PS or app beforehand, but they read it after your interview.

Your interviewers do not read your personal statement or any part of your application. They know your name, major and university. They are just clinicians that work at the hospital that volunteer some time to interview students. Once they interview you, they spend about 5-10min writing down their thoughts and hand over that sheet over paper to admissions and get ready for the next student or go about their day if that was their last interview. They are never going to see anything else about your application. The nice thing about that is you can repeat anything that was on your personal statement or application since that would be the first time they are seeing it.

Hey everyone
I couldn’t find a lot of info about this but can anyone speak to the opportunities available at Carver for those who are interested in surgery?

Any indication at all about how many of those were from the final pool? Wondering what sort of odds are left at this point.
Not the exact info you’re looking for but in last years thread the last acceptance posted was someone on the OOS wait list who started in the mid 30s and got in in May. The past few years WL movement has been pretty good.

Hi, guys, I am very lucky to be accepted to Carver as an instate. However, I just realized that my speeding ticket three years (I was going about 10-15miles over the speed limit on the highway) may consider as a misdemeanor in Iowa. I have only had this one speeding ticket my whole life and since then I have not made the same mistake. I was told not to report speeding tickets and had no idea that my ticket may count as a misdemeanor in Iowa!!! So I didn't report any misdemeanor in my primary application.....I am waiting for my background check now and freaking out because I read in another threat that Iowa speeding ticket counts as a misdemeanor.....I have three options:

1. I contact the school and explain it right now.
2. I wait for my background check and then explain it.
3. I wait for the school to contact me since it is basically a traffic ticket.

Let me know what you guys think, I feel so scared that I will be perceived as dishonest because of this....
Hi. I don’t have any advise other than to seek help on another thread like ask me anything thread, confidential advice or even last year class to see if anyone had a similar issue as you. You will get expert help there rather than help from people who are applying and have no idea. Even worse might instill unnecessary fear.

I think the original comment was deleted. But my understanding is it depends on the state you were in where you got the speeding ticket. So if you got it in Illinois where it’s not a misdemeanor, there is no misdemeanor on your record.

Thanks for replying! I delete my post cause I don't want to induce unnecessary fears and anxiety for other applicants 🙂. I check the secondary of Iowa, it clearly asked me to report any crimes other than MINOR TRAFFIC VIOLATION. So at least I didn't make a mistake for my secondary. I will wait for my background check. If it does show up as a misdemeanor, I will contact the admission office and explain how I was unaware that minor traffic violation counts as a misdemeanor in Iowa and would do anything I can to fix this.

Anybody know what the deadline is to get the Certiphi check in? I'm having to dig up a lot of information and want to make sure I'm not late to submit.

Current MS2. I have 2 speeding tickets and I don’t think I ever reported them. You could reach out to admissions if you are nervous about it but I don’t think they are going to care about it

Thanks! I still call the admission office to confirm, is true that some speeding ticket will show up in background, in Iowa it will be called simple misdemeanor, the admission office told me that they are aware of that, and if it is a speeding ticket, they don’t care, and will just ignore it. So anyone else who worry about this matter should get a rest now 🙂

Another quiet Tuesday...Do you think pool party invites will go out next week?
Last year the final pool email went out in the 27th and the last A the week before. I know someone said they were told at their interview they won’t hear back until March but that’s how it always is for January interviews

Next Tuesday, the 25th, seems likely then for the final pool email.
