2021-2022 Virginia Commonwealth

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone know what this status change means/if it's a good or bad thing? I went from

"Your M.D. file is now complete. A member of the committee will do a review of your application. This review is done to determine your qualifications for a potential interview invitation. Once this review is complete, you will receive a status update regarding your profile."

to

"Your M.D. file is now complete. The Sub-Committee will now do a review of your application. Once this review is complete, you will receive a status update regarding your profile."
When were you complete?

Mine was submitted 7/8 and I am still at:

"Your M.D. file is now complete. A member of the committee will do a review of your application. This review is done to determine your qualifications for a potential interview invitation. Once this review is complete, you will receive a status update regarding your profile. PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE ADMISSIONS OFFICE to check on your status.Your status is updated in the portal for your review at all times."

Should I be worried?
No, sorry, I didn't mean to cause any anxiety by posting that. I wouldn't be worried; in fact, it sounds like sometimes the statuses sometimes skip around (like if whoever is reading your app forgets to change the status or something). Plus I know schools do not read apps chronologically, but often stratify based on residency, stats, etc. So sometimes the complete date is a useless data point.

Will they give an R post secondary reviews manually or are they all algorithmic rejections until a batch is sent out later on?

Don’t want to get your hopes up, but from what I can tell, this school is swift in sending out Rs and doesn’t send IIs until August. If the review was going to lead to an R, it probably would have already. Maybe they’re just saving the II until August.

Do you know anything about what stage of the process they often send Rs in? Am hopeful that my current subcommittee status means something good lol

I've just submitted my app but I didn't receive an email for confirmation or fee submission. is that normal?

Do you guys think it's worth explaining a single B- grade in physics for the poor grades question?

From what I could glean from last year's thread, the order (usually??) goes from:
Complete --> member of committee review --> sub-committee review --> admissions committee review --> file review complete
I am IS, complete 7/9 and was just placed on "file review complete" yesterday, so from here it's about waiting for an II or R.
Looks like you are moving along in the process!
Just for reference for anyone else looking at timing for status changes:

Complete on 7/6 (OOS), this is what is says on my home page as of tonight: "Your M.D. file is now complete. The admissions committee will now do a review of your application. Once this review is complete, you will receive a status update regarding your profile."

Interesting. I'm complete 7/13 (OOS) and it says,
"Your M.D. file is now complete. A member of the committee will do a review of your application."

Is there a difference between admissions committee vs member of committee?

Admissions committee is likely when each member votes yay or nay. The single admissions officer is a gatekeeper to getting to that vote.

Been on "member of committee will do a review of your app" since 07/09. Be patient, it's coming folks!

is there a way to submit additional documents after submitting the supplemental app?

Has anyone with a 1st quartile Ca$per made it past the autorejection stage, or does definitely seem like what they are screening with?

how long did it take to receive secondary after their first email?

The secondary comes with the first email. You have to log into the portal
lol my portal status says this so that's why I asked
" Your application has been received by the VCU School of Medicine and now will begin the process of evaluation. There will be a preliminary review of your application prior to receipt of a supplemental application. Please be aware that all applicants are not invited to complete a supplemental application. You may check the status of your application at any point during this process using the applicant website. Please allow 4-6 weeks for processing of your application."

I have a 1st quartile Ca$per and this is my latest portal update:

Your File Review is now complete. If you are granted an interview, you will receive a status update on your applicant portal. Please do not call the Admissions Office requesting special dates.

The Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine (VCU SOM) is now incorporating the American Professional Health Sciences (CSP10101) CASPer test as a part of its holistic review process. All applicants wishing to be considered at VCU SOM are required to complete this assessment in addition to the AMCAS application. For the 2021 cycle, Casper results will be utilized as part of the decision to extend interview invitations.

Did you have the admissions committee/subcommittee portal updates before that? That's interesting if so -- I guess it means that the automatic Rs aren't attributable to a Casper screen

Yes I did! So it looks like we can still go through the review process with a low Ca$per score. My only concern now is whether I'll move on from here.

I spoke with the Dean of Admissions, Dr. Whitehurst-Cook, after my previously unsuccessful cycle, and from what she said is that CASPER will not cause you to be rejected or even prevent you from being interviewed, but rather serve as a way to differentiate two very similar students when deciding who to interview.

Hopefully this provides some of you relief!

I submitted my app on 7/23 and everything else was ready before that date, but it's still not marked as complete. how long does it usually take to be marked as complete?
