2021-2022 Wayne State

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
does Wayne's number of applications received (as of right now) seem low compared to last year (they got 10k apps by December) ?
I also don't believe the admissions tracker is updated their most current numbers, so it may be a bit higher. A bunch of people also just got their early August MCAT scores released so I wouldn't be surprised if it reaches around the same number of apps.

Over 600 interviews requested already. Safe to say I am probably not getting one.
Wait, they’ve already sent out 605 IIs? Bruh, that’s crazy. How many do they typically send out in a year? Lol looks like I won’t be getting one either.

Average research hours are 1k+ and community service hours are 800+? I didn't realize Wayne State had such Rush-like numbers

honestly, idk how true it is. It just says it on their tracker online. If you go to their admissions website.

The numbers are so different from last year. Fewer applicants with more interviews requested and more interviews completed a month and a half earlier. Does not bode well for me I think.

What’s the total number of interviews they give out? I feel like 600 is very close to the max probably ….. wow

They gave out 1184 total last cycle, then again the number of IIs might be more than the number of interviews as well. Also what if they're giving out way more interviews this year? In about 2 months they gave out 600 whereas last year in about 4 they gave 400. Plus someone in the thread who interviewed already got an R, which is crazy fast. Admission stats stay relatively the same from year to year sure but that doesn't mean they can't change it up.

I stopped tracking on Jan 15, 2021 (when I got rejected lol). But these were the numbers then.

sorry if this is a silly question! but the admission offers are usually higher than the total number of seats they have in the class for wayne state and other schools alike, right?

Can you provide a link to where you are seeing their admissions tracker? I’ve searched their admissions site and can’t seem to find it. TIA
Yup! It's right on their homepage (scroll down).

if we dont meet EDP requirements does wayne automatically move us to the regular applicant pool or are we rejected? currently waiting on an MCAT score to see if i met their cutoff

Not rejected! You just get moved to the regular pool.

**I think you aren't released until October 1st, but double-check that!

Are they handing out R's even earlier this year or is that just me?

Not just you, they're going through IIs at a rate of 300 per month whereas they'd usually go at 100 per month according to their interview tracker. My guess is that they're also handing out Rs earlier (a bit too hastily imo based on them handing them out to people without having all the info) to compensate for this extremely fast rate. Seems like they're taking a different spin this year than last cycle.

the weird thing is last year I never even got a rejection from them just a "we have sent out all of our interviews" email in like January so I didn't even think they sent out post secondary Rs before

Can anyone who's interviewed here this cycle share more about the layout of the interview? I might be overlooking something, but I'm just a bit confused on whether or not the interview begins at the specific time you registered for (ex. you signed up for 2pm), or it starts at the time the afternoon block starts (ex. at 1pm)? Is there an orientation or presentation before the interviews begin?

Same thing, same time. A rejection just worded nicely lol.

Like a day before your interview they’ll email you a link to a “pre-info session” to go over the interview format, which starts ~15-30 min before your first actual interview. Basically all the individual interview slots on your portal will become clickable and you are responsible for entering each Zoom call at the assigned time. I was a little annoyed by this at first but it actually ended up being a nice system because you have a few minutes in between each session where your camera/mic are off, you can relax for a little, etc. At the end of your interviews you will return to the original Zoom link they emailed you for the pre-info session to wrap up and have a brief presentation on Wayne. It sounds confusing but it ended up being fairly well done and I only had 1 technical issue which was resolved quickly. They’ll explain more in depth during that pre-info session.

Hey guys any update from the EDP gang regarding rejections or offers? I was under the assumption they would give rejections by now. And currently 4 weeks have passed for the August 9 interviewees.

I submitted 8/30 ish so I should probably anticipate to hear back in a few weeks right? Sorry haven't been following this thread. Are decisions always made when they review your app – II, pre-II R, or hold? Or just II or pre-II R? Thanks guys!

At this point, it is just a waiting game. I submitted late July I believe and still have not heard back. Hopefully we will hear something positive soon!

Thank you so much for this, it was really helpful! I was also wondering for the faculty interview, is it with several faculty members, or just one? If you feel comfortable sharing!

All the interviews, including MMI, are 1-on-1 unless you have a student or faculty shadower that might be in training

We are all rooting for you to get into another school that you will love, you got this friend. Keep your head up to the best of your ability.
Thank you all for the kind response. It stung for about a day, but I was able to refocus pretty quickly. I don't think there's any specific takeaway for me here since they have switched up their admissions cycle strategy so much this year after liking my application last year. I'm going to keep working to address deficiencies in my applications in case it doesn't happen this cycle, and in ten years I won't remember this happened; or at least I will only remember that I used this negative outcome to fuel my motivation.

Just curious, but how do you think they switched up their strategy? I’m also a reapplication here rip

Any OOS or internationals with an MCAT less than 510 get interviews ???

Is anyone aware if we need to formally let the school know to consider our last 20 credits if we did post-bacc classes?

No, I don't think so. I did a post bacc and did not formally tell them.

I know in the past they had a form that you had to fill out but none that i'm aware of for this cycle. I did 21+ post-bacc credits at 4.0 so I hope it counts for something at Wayne State

For anyone who's interviewed here this cycle, did you do the post interview survey on the portal? Is it required? Is it anonymous? Does it impact our admissions decision?

I wish I had more insight to offer, but it's hard to say precisely how they switched it up beyond the obvious overhaul of the secondary application and sending out II's at a much higher clip early in the cycle. If you haven't been rejected, I wouldn't put yourself in my shoes. Seems like they had the R locked and loaded for me and based on the timetable they either didn't read my secondary, or one person read it one time very quickly and didn't like it. I probably just applied too late for someone they interviewed last year or something similar.

Interviewed today and really ended up liking Wayne a lot! Vibed well with my faculty interviewers. And MMIs were more enjoyable and easier to answer than I thought it’d be. Good luck to future interviewees and relax! They definitely just want to get to know you. 🙂 They also mentioned that interviewees are all well qualified and their adcom has already screened through your application twice before offering you an interview, so go in there with confidence amigos.

Where even is the the post interview survey? I can't find it in the portal

Honestly you might be getting silence because your stats are so overpower.
Hmm, is yield protection real? I'd love to go to Wayne! I hope I don't have a red flag that I've overlooked on my app.
