2021-2022 Wayne State

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think so, sadly, as they would think you would pick Harvard tier rather than Wayne, so why bother giving you an interview. That's why I applied EDP, with my high stats.
Ah, outside EDP do you think there's anything I could do to express my interest in Wayne? I'd hate to be overlooked because of my stats.

I have a 3.86/521 and I’m interviewing in October. So if you really like the school and think you’re a good fit, give it a shot!

To all my OOS with no ties interviewing / have interviewed, how are you guys answering the "why Detroit?" question? I can talk about its similarities to my home city that has a ton of underserved populations, but Im not really sure what to really say. This is truly the only school I'm actually without some sort of ties at and I am just feeling lost ;-;

This may not help you a lot but I actually have very little to no experience working with underserved & homeless populations, so that is a reason why I’m interested in Detroit. It’s a great chance to broaden your horizons and work with patients you haven’t seen before. But that’s just my experience 🙂

I'm a Canadian student here. Submitted my secondary during the first week of Aug and haven't heard back yet 🙁 I'm not sure if this likely means a reject and I'm not too familiar with the US MD system but is there a way I can reach out to Wayne state and express my interest?

I also applied around then and I understand your worry but I think it's still quite early. There are probably many people who applied in July yet to hear anything back so I would still wait a bit longer before sending a letter of interest (which is quite early at this point of the cycle and might even sound desperate)

I’m a July submit who hasn’t heard anything yet. USA citizen, Midwest resident with ties to Detroit. It’s still early!

I see your line of reasoning and totally agree, but let's be real here - I am desperate 😆

I literally compared Cleveland to Detroit in my secondary and interview and it was received just fine. But this only works because these are both Rust Belt cities that are culturally similar.
I'm from Miami, so not that close of a parallel. Lots of homeless and underserved in both areas though. I know its a stretching comparison so I don't really want to use it. Im just not sure what to say when "Why Detroit"

Does Wayne State give merit full tuition scholarships to OOS students? If so, do OOS students have to pay the OOS minus IS tuition difference?

I compared Detroit to Chicago and discussed how I wanted to study and learn in an Urban environment since my hometown was urban and disadvantaged. I also have some work done with the homeless and discussed that. The "why us/detroit" question definitely came up in my interview.

I guess 23 more invites have been sent out.

For anyone who's interviewed here this cycle, did you do the post interview survey on the portal? Is it required? Is it anonymous? Does it impact our admissions decision?
I just saw this. Does anyone know if it's mandatory and whether it will have an impact on our admissions decision? It's been a few weeks since I interviewed so I hope it isn't too important.

for everyone interviewing tomorrow, have you all gotten the virtual welcome session link? Have not received it :c

Their interview links are in the portal but they still should send a link for the orientation. I'd try e-mailing ASAP

Just got an email for the welcome session link if that helps. Good luck tomorrow!

Omg some of us could get decisions on Friday… the Sunday scaries are REAL this week
Is that for early decision or for regular decision? I remember them saying in my interview we could hear October 1st but AAMC said you can't be notified until October 15th so I was confused

Not 100% sure how it works, but after looking through different threads/comments, it seems like some schools treat the 10/15 date as a law, and others treat it as a suggestion. Go with whatever the admissions office told you during interview day!

EXCUSE ME?? I was under the impression it would be October 15 like most schools, and of course I 100% forgot what they told us during the interview…thanks for making my blood pressure skyrocket 😬

Now I'm second guessing what I heard during the interview can anyone help haha

I think when I interviewed they said rejections could come sooner, waitlists could be october 1st, and then acceptances could be 10/15.. not 100% sure though !!!

edit: their website says decisions will start 10/15

Hey guys any update from the EDP gang regarding rejections or offers? I was under the assumption they would give rejections by now. And currently 4 weeks have passed for the August 9 interviewees.
EDP applicant, secondary completed 7/20 (7/10 for actual application, 7/20 b/c of late reference), II received 7/22, interviewed 8/27
Canadian, Re-applicant, LM 71

Got an update on 9/14, "Deferred to regular applicant pool" and releasing me to apply to other schools (Still trying to process things and figure things out). As far as I understand, it means i'm WL-ed. Was hoping other EDP people would post an outcome but haven't seen anything else. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Have any other EDP people heard back yet?

PS. Good luck to everyone here! People posting so far seem to be spectacular! #GoodVibesOnly!

Wow they really are responding in the four to six weeks! I guess that means some regular decision applicants may be hearing before Oct 15 too then

I interviewed regular decision 8/27 and I am banking on October 15 at the very least…I am not emotionally stable enough for any earlier 😭

To make matters worse, I got a postcard in the mail telling me to apply lol. If they wanted me so badly how about send me an interview invite 🙁
I got this as well, my dad said "hey you should apply to Wayne State they sent you something in the mail saying they wanted you to apply" and I'm like gee dad isn't that just crazy

I interviewed here 9/10. Is the 4-6 week timeline what they are sticking to so far? I am getting sooo nervous with anticipation of any decision 😕

I interviewed over 6 weeks ago, I guess they're either waiting for October 15th or the rumored October 1st dates to send final decisions

I interviewed on 9/3 and they explicitly told us we would hear back Oct. 1st. Now I'm just confused as the website says Oct. 15th. They also said most decisions would be alternate/waitlist positions.

wait, they explicitly said that most people who hear back will get waitlisted?
