Considering the low rate of post II R’s…

Interviews Completed minus Acceptances Offered.

Although possible that some people on waitlist might be accepted at preferable institutions and have dropped from consideration 🤷🏻‍♂️

From my impression, that data should be used as a guide and not a hard fact.

I saw that too but I don't understand how they can take 300 from the waitlist if their class size is 300. That would mean everyone who received an acceptance without being waitlisted turned it down.

Edit: I just realized people may turn down their acceptance after being on the waitlist and that would result in more movement. But 300 still seems like a lot.

I agree that AAMC is the better indicator of what the waitlist could look like than my horrible estimate above, hah.

It’s possible that not all initial acceptances are turned down and that not all post-waitlist acceptances result in matriculation.
 
My best estimate would be that the WL is closer to the 1,000 number rather than 600… I have seen virtually no post interview rejections and there seems to be many more interviews this year compared to previous years.

That 600 WL number is also from the 2019-2020 cycle. So pre-covid. But then again, who really knows?!

Hopefully there will come a day in the future when admissions (not just Wayne but everywhere) will become more transparent regarding the admissions process and not have applicants/reapplicants in the dark for months on-end

agh i feel like i cant even think about my future because everything is hanging on what the decision will be so im just waiting. I can't allow myself to hope too much but I don't want to be pessimistic because I cannot handle another depressive episode, so basically im going crazy

I feel you. Partner and I are in limbo about where to move and her new job and getting into Wayne (and staying local) would save both our lives. I’ve had nightmares about checking my email for an A constantly these past few weeks

omg I actually dreamt that I got an A in my email a few days ago and then I woke up and wasn't sure if it actually happened lol .... it didn't 🙁

RIP im so sorry I can't even imagine how you must be feeling. Here's hoping we all hear back soon. I'm thinking they have to tell us in the next two weeks right? April first is usually when waitlist movement really begins so im thinking they'll have finished with the post interview apps by then? Idk maybe this is just me hoping lol

I tell myself every week that this has to be the week haha
I just wish they were a little more open about their process because people who interviewed on my day have heard back, which makes me think an R is coming my way. I'm just trying to ignore the wait so I can be pleasantly surprised when I do finally hear
 
Heard from a friend of mine who is a student here that the medical school got a new Dean recently and the committee has been meeting to tweak the curriculum. Not completely sure how factual this information is but it could explain the halt in waitlist movement the past month or so.

I just read the same thing—it looks like they appointed an interim Dean and Schweitzer may be on his way out. Any existing students willing to comment on whether these changes should impact a decision to attend?

In other news, the new dean was part of the old admin, I believe he was vice dean under Schweitzer so i'm thinking it shouldn't have too much of an impact on students/the way things run there?

I have a feeling we are not going to hear for a while

Edit: I don't have any inside knowledge but since most waitlist movement happens in April and May and there are only about 200 more acceptances they're giving out I think most of the waitlist movement will happen then

Yeah i think so too! I'm post-II status though, interviewed on the last possible date, so at this point idk what to think. I dont think putting me on the WL makes sense considering how close to the end of the cycle we are and how big the list already is, so im thinking an R or A is headed my way before waitlist movement begins but maybe not :/

From the student senate email on this. "Dean Schweitzer will remain in his role as Dean of the School of Medicine and Vice President of Health Affairs but will now focus his efforts externally. This will involve leading the health-affiliated programs at Wayne State beyond the School of Medicine including graduate medical education and community outreach. He will continue to be the chief strategist in creating and deepening clinical relationships and partnerships within the Metro Detroit region and championing philanthropic efforts to raise capital for a new School of Medicine building"
From my perspective, this change seems to be going on due to unhappiness about the job that he was doing and the fact that his position had more responsibilities than 1 person could reasonably do. Beyond that I'm not really willing/able to make any additional comments on this.

How much time do students get for studying for step 1? Online it looks like 3 months is this correct?
