Got accepted off the deferred list today! first acceptance 🙂
congrats on the A!! I've been on the deferred list since my interview on 12/2 and just wondering if you sent any updates/LOI in between your deferral and acceptance? thank you!

OMS-1 here. Let me know if you have any questions!
hey! some questions for ya if/when you get a chance!

-any new updates on whether or not classes will be p/f in the fall?
-what’s working well for you study strategies wise? how do you prepare for classes/exams?
-when did you get more info like supply list/course registration/etc. stuff after your seat deposit?
-was carey your only choice and if not, what made you pick carey over other schools?
-anything you wish you would have known/would have did before semester 1?

  1. Classes will be p/f in the fall
  2. Anki, anki, anki!! Maybe you used it for the MCAT/maybe not. Try to get into the habit of it because it's a life-saver. There will be other decks from previous classes, but I'd try to make your own if you can. It helps reinforce concepts. Make use of the tutors, too. It's especially helpful for OPP. The exams are all integrated (multiple classes in one exam), so it's best to make use of practice questions. There are some good resources such as Gray's Anatomy Review that should help out with that.
  3. Mine was a bit delayed, so I got all of that a month/ month and a half later. However, I wouldn't worry about that. The school does the course registration for you, and you'll get your supply list order form in the mail.
  4. It wasn't my only choice, but the tuition brought me here lol.
  5. I wish I had reviewed some anatomy and a little bit of biochem (although he tells you to review this prior to coming to the first class so might as well). I didn't take anatomy in undergrad, so it kinda caught me off guard with just how difficult it was for me. But if you're good on both, just relax from here on out.
Thank you for this. There is still internal ranking right? So we will be ranked against classmates?

Has anyone heard anything from admissions in the past week? I emailed them an update letter last Monday and they haven’t responded yet, usually they’re pretty quick to respond to emails
I was interviewed last week [1/12/2022] and was told that today [1/19/2022] they would met and discuss my application. Hopefully that means I hear something within the next week, by inference that means other people should hear stuff as well. *fingerscrossed* I hope all of us get some good news!!

Interviewed 18Jan2022, got my acceptance this afternoon! So excited! Weak undergrad GPA. Canadian Applicant. I think my ECs, MCAT and interview helped me pull through!
Well here is to hoping I see you two wonderful people (username77777 and heyhello123) on campus sometime! It would be nice to potentially know some people already!

How long did it take for you guys to receive a confirmation after your wire transfer?
i mailed a paper check and got a letter in the mail with a receipt and some info about hattiesburg about a week after the check was deposited.

Got my acceptance on Wednesday and it's my first acceptance overall!! Waiting to hear back from one school before putting a deposit down, but there is still hope for everyone!

Losing my deposit and withdrawing my acceptance for a different school 🥲 good luck to you all

For those that interviewed, how long after accepting an interview invite did you hear back? I accepted my interview but haven’t heard any further communication yet
I didn't hear back until like the week of the interview, maybe like the Friday before but it was really close to the interview before I heard back.

i got an II in September and in the invite it had a day in October listed. When I confirmed (almost immediately) that day worked for me, they emailed the following day with a specific time on that day. I didn't hear anything until the day before the interview when I got a teams link from the person that was hosting the interview!

Hey everyone! I'm a current OMS1 student. I'm also Canadian and I know we have a larger number of Canadian students being accepted for the incoming class. If any of you have any questions feel free to message me!

My advice right now for the people who got accepted (congratulations btw!!) is to look out for the facebook group that OMS1s have created and have one individual from this page make a GroupMe and send the link here every month. This is to stay in touch with your future classmates early on, it will be very beneficial for finding roommates when the time comes. Lastly, take this time to relax and enjoy the time you have off before beginning medical school, it will be a journey but it'll be worth it!

Thank you so much! What things would you recommend buying before OMS1? This is probably too neurotic but do I need to buy my own stethoscope, if so, is there a type they or you recommend? Thanks again!

Personally I didn't buy anything until May because that's about when they sent out a list of all the necessary things we needed to buy. Yes, you need to buy your own stethoscope but I wouldn't stress about it right now. However, they recommended Littmann Cardiology IV, I can't recall 100% but I believe they said the Classic one is ok too. But remember you'll probably have this stethoscope for a long time so I think its worth it to get something more expensive that is better quality. You have the option to order it from the bookstore too. Last year the bookstore was very late in getting students their equipment so I recommend buying it yourself (I also think it's cheaper if you buy it yourself). There are other things you will need but I don't want to tell you something that we needed that you may not need. They give the list of what you need pretty far in advance so I would wait for that. The one thing I would start looking into right now is places to live and try to have it all figured out by about April/May. No worries let me know if you have other questions!

Just got an interview invite! Any tips?
As cliche as it sounds just be yourself! In my interview they straight up told me that if you made it to the interview that you have what it takes to be in their program. I felt like it was very laid back and had some good laughs during it! I would just familiarize yourself with their mission and what they want their physicians to do in the future. Also utilize SDN as they asked a lot of questions that were on there!

Thank you! This makes me feel so much better!

How long did it take you to hear back after your interview? Was it same day?
i heard back the next day when i interviewed in october! it's super chill, and i think people have had varied experiences on whether its more conversational or question and answer. mine was very relaxed but more question and answer-ish. be prepared to talk about why physician, why DO, why Carey, qualities in a physician you think are valuable, a challenge you've faced, why/why not you haven't shadowed a DO. also, be prepared to talk about your volunteer experiences and EC's, as well as how those made you more passionate about medicine. if you have unbalanced stats, i'd be prepared to talk about that as well. they will also present you with an ethics scenario to discuss, but if you look over the scenario's on the SDN interview page, you'll be more than prepared! also, i don't know how it'll be for you, but mine was capped right at 30 minutes, as there were people interviewing before and after me in half hour time slots through the same teams link, with the same interviewers. i only say that so you're aware as far as the length of answers you prepare, and so you're not surprised if they end it kind of abruptly right at 30 minutes!

Submitted my supplementary earlier in Jan, just got an II today!! It's scheduled for Feb 10, if anyone wants to practice, please let me know. 🙂

Also, any interview advice would be appreciated. <3

Stats: MCAT 508 and 3.3-3.4 gpa
Excited for you!! Very conversational, the two interviewers kept the mood light and cracked some jokes.

Can any current students share a little bit of information about clinical rotations?

How often do students switch sites? Like do students spend several months or years at each site or are they moving every month?
Does WCUCOM provide or help students find housing, esp in more rural areas?
Overall, how do students like the preceptors?
I’m also looking for answers to these questions! I really wish we got to speak to students during the interviews.

When you completed and submitted the registration form and deposit did you guys get a confirmation of that? Also I used PayMyTuition so I’m not sure if anyone else used that to pay their seat deposit too.

I’ve used PayMyTuition as well. I chose the bill payment option and paid using BMO (TD doesn’t work, not sure about CIBC and other banks). It took 2 business days (EST) for the payment to reach PayMyTuition and another 3-4 hours for the payment to reach the school + receive receipt from PayMyTuition. Receipt from the school + student number etc were given to me the next business day. Hope this helps!
