2022-2023 Drexel

Feb 21st, and yeah I am hoping this is when we will also see some deferral -> A movement. Cause I'm getting the feeling that it's either they are waiting till after CYMS opens or we are all getting waitlisted in March.

2021 cycle: a ton of deferral -> A in mid Jan
2020 cycle: every single person got waitlisted
2019 cycle: as far as I can see only 1 person got outright A from deferral

grain of salt cause reporting bias from sdn
Hi, I am a current student who was deferred last cycle and accepted in January (2 months after). I did send a letter of intent! Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Should we send an update letter or letter of continued interest or whatever if we havent even gotten an II?

Anyone know when the withdrawal button showed up? Yesterday right? I wonder if that influenced the deferral movement to start.

That’s always been there. I have not been placed on hold or interviewed here and was complete August. I’ve always noticed it when logging into the portal

Anyone who interviewed on 12/16 hear back yet? On the day of they told us 6-8 weeks and today would make it exactly 8 weeks since :/

They may be behind. I know there's a few of us on here from earlier dates that have had radio silence since interviewing. It'll be 13 weeks for me this Friday

Philly or West Reading campus?

I mainly don't like how you have to go all over the place for rotations in Philly. At the same time, West Reading hasn't even graduated its inaugural class, but you'd be at Tower Health all four years. I would appreciate if someone from the West Reading program spoke a bit about their experience. Thanks in advance!!

I can speak to the West Reading campus, and feel free to ask me anything I missed!

Truthfully speaking, you can consider the Philadelphia campus match rate to be what West Reading’s match rate will be; our curriculum is exactly the same and the opportunities for extracurriculars are comparable across both campuses. I also highly doubt that they will publish separate match statistics for both campuses, because so far everything they have done has had the theme of "one class, two campuses." Our schedules are the same, our professors are shared (even with those who are physically at separate campuses), and social events are shared. Any major organization that was already established in Philadelphia is required to have a West Reading liaison on their e-board, which is like free leadership for those who take the initiative to get them.

The class size is likely to expand again at West Reading (40-60ish) but you will still be in a much, MUCH smaller class than at Philadelphia, which is going to be ridiculously larger at 260ish or 130ish for your half class. There are the same amount of overarching faculty at both campuses so you are effectively getting a better faculty to student ratio. Additionally, Tower Health will absolutely cater to you as West Reading students FIRST, and their physicians come in early to teach special topic courses in their fields and they will be your residency director come third and fourth year.

You are effectively getting what any other MD medical school has - its own home residency teaching hospital. Tower Health wants to recruit Drexel students guaranteed and whether you want to stay in this area or not, you are getting the home field advantage to match somewhere if you are here. There will be fellowships in competitive specialties here (vascular, plastics) and given that Reading Hospital is THE biggest trauma center in Pennsylvania, any sort of surgical field will have a LOT of opportunities for research and exposure (ortho is huge). In fact, they’ve had to turn down Philadelphia campus students looking to research here since you need to be in person to do so here. Students here are interested in a lot of competitive specialties and feel very supported by how easy it’s been to gain clinical (not wet lab unfortunately!) research opportunities at the hospital.

The only major cons to West Reading are social in nature and definitely not academic. You are not in a city as developed as Philadelphia and if you like to go out to shops you are definitely more limited. If you’re someone who absolutely needs the city to not feel depressed in things you can do, this may not be the place for you. But it’s still about a 1.5 hour drive to Philly, 45 min to King of Prussia, so when the mood strikes it’s possible to organize and go to these places.

Feel free to ask more specific questions if I didn’t answer anything!

For those who were accepted, have u guys heard about any updates about next steps other than completing the background checks? Like is there a checklist or smt that shows updates on things that they have received from us to complete the matriculation process?

Other than accepting/completing financial requirements I don't think there's anything else in addition to the background checks. Based on previous threads, a pre-matriculation tab may show up sometime in March.

According to the website, April 1st is the FAFSA deadline. Nothing listed for any Drexel specific aid applications

Do you know if most people get their preferred Campus choice?

Hi everyone! For students that have been accepted, do you know if Drexel is planning an Accepted Students Day or if there’s a group chat for us yet?

I believe a majority of people will still put Philly campus as their first choice, but because of the lottery system, you may still end up in WR. If you put WR first, you will most likely be assigned to WR! I think this will change as people learn more about the WR campus, specifically it’s relationship with the hospital.

There is an appeal process to switch campuses if you have a valid reason. Last year, they were VERY strict and I don’t know a single person who’s request was accepted for a campus change.

No, I called the financial aid office yesterday because I had a ton of questions, and the lady said that the two week suggestion they have in the financial aid email is not an official deadline. They were super helpful though, I suggest calling them if you have specific questions about your financial package.

Do you have any idea if there will be anything other than direct loans? What I've been offered only covers half of tuition, let alone the cost of attendance... Is that normal? I'm guessing I'd have to go GradPLUS?

Same, I was offered work-study too but I don't think it's feasible to work while in med school and $3000 is not much in the grand scheme of how much tuition is so I declined it. From what I've been reading it seems like most people rely on grad plus loans to cover the remaining tuition/COA but I'm not 100% sure about this. If someone else has any info or if any current students could provide input on how they pay for school that would be much appreciated 😅

On another note, there's a new tab for campus visits for accepted students within the admissions decision tab. Looking forward to meeting some of you guys!

All quiet on the western front
So does this mean we can talk about the differences between the 1930 and 2022 versions of the film and how each contributes to the overall anti-war narrative in their own way? I’ve been wanting to utilize my film background for some time now 🤣

I got an email today regarding all of that, you can check the portal too under "pre-matriculation."

For any current students, is it worthwhile to go to a campus visit? On the portal it says it is only 2 hours total of scheduled “programming” so I’m not sure the travel would be worth it (also having to see both campuses on separate days).. Any thoughts?

Pre-ii hold. What are my chances of getting a ii at this point? Also, is there anything I can do like send an update letter/letter of continued interest to help my chances of getting a ii?

Also on hold. I sent an update letter on 2/9. Not sure if it will do anything, but it only takes an hour to write, so why not.

How do you know if your app is on hold? Does it say in the application status or do you get an email?
