2022-2023 Howard

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey, I’m so sorry about how this cycle has went so far for you and really hope that you hear some good news soon. I want to ask if you have any letters of recommendation from anyone that may be questionable in any way. Your application as a whole may be strong but maybe a recommender stated something that made them less fond of admitting you. 🙁

This part….it’s the only actual unknown

I don't know, I think if he was given an interview, his LOR must be solid. I could see that if he wasn't being interviewed at all. Based on his stats, I think he just needs to apply more strategically. Some schools are unforgiving of undergraduate GPAs, MCAT re-takes, etc so if your undergrad GPA or 1st MCAT isn't high, then those school's will be a reach. Some are biased toward minorities, non-trads, etc. If you have a competitive application but don't apply to the "right" schools, it won't matter. So much of this process is fit.

Thanks for all the input guys; it’s really appreciated. Unless I hear something soon, I’m probably going with the paid PhD. I’m 30 already and don’t see myself doing this process again due to the huge amount of uncertainty and subjectivity.

You apply broadly DO?

This process is grueling

Not really because I’m just over the whole process. Additionally, DO schools have expensive deposits and I’m not well off financially.

Any love from Florida schools? This process is so confusing, I don’t know why you will get an interview at Howard and get rejected at Morehouse. But hey keep your head up, you could start a PhD and apply to the MD program at that school, and get your MD/PhD

No love in Florida, lol.

...because Morehouse has a strong IS bias so you have to have high stats and stellar EC to be accepted if you're OOS. He likely would have been interviewed if he was IS. That's where applying strategically comes in. Every single school has a bias, or "type" they’re looking for. You have to find your match, its almost like dating.

Wow this thread is so smart like Howard adcom can you see?

I received an interview invite but I haven't taken my Casper yet. I'm taking it the day after my interview. Will this effect me?
I thought Casper was necessary for a complete app?

Doesn't seem like there will be anymore waves of II's from Howard, just trickles 🙁 .
They interview until April, I don't think IIs have substantially slowed. There are just a lot of people who don't use SDN and can't report (probably for the best bc then we'd all be losing our minds).. lol don't lose hope

Casper is necessary for a complete app, but I've seen people get IIs without it. They really just want to see that you've taken it-- besides they sometimes take a week or more (usually more) to make a decision.

I'd just send them an update once it's done.

I submitted my secondary mid-September, and got an email that my review was complete early October. Not sure if anyone else with this timeline has heard back about a II.

Looking at last year's thread - by the time the FB page hit ~85 (in early Feb), they had filled the class, nearly given out all interview slots with ~100 slots left (but interviews from mid-Feb forward for waitlist spots).

Hoping they may be more behind this cycle, but very unsure. Haven't sent in an update letter, so may do that at this rate and just see.

We have the exact same timeline, I haven’t heard back either. According to the timeline section on their admissions website, they will be sending out rejections to those that haven’t received interview about a month from now, on march 15. Unfortunately, I think what’s on their Facebook page may be accurate to the state of things. It seems like not a lot of people on here posts their II updates or majority of the II went to people who don’t use SDN, making it look like they are behind. Either way, keep hope alive. It’s never over until it’s over

If anyone is going for first Friday tomorrow, please keep us updated with any new information.
