2022-2023 Indiana

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was accepted in October, but didn't get an invite to this. Anyone else not receive an invite for this event?
+1, also accepted in October and did not receive any information about this
It was a meeting for URMs, but it was a Q&A session with other URM students and some faculty. No dire information was discussed, so you didn’t miss anything heavily important

Has anyone applied/interviewed for the rural health track, and is it too late to express interest to be considered now?

Does anyone know if OOS students can become eligible for in-state tuition after the first year? I tried researching their website but I couldn’t find any information on it.

Might need to email the IUSM financial aid office for more on this though. IU (undergraduate) has a policy where you can apply to be classified as an in-state student for residency purposes, but I'm guessing it's a bit different for IUSM. Might be worth reaching out to see what your options are.

I went to IU for undergrad, and my first year I was paying an out-of-state fee, and then after a year I submitted an application to be reconsidered an in-state student. But I vividly remember that the part of that process was to prove that I moved to Indiana for reasons other than school. I submitted my spouse's job offer, and it was satisfactory.

Not sure if this is going to fly with the med school but always worth at least trying.

They said we had to prove we were residents for 1 year prior to even starting school to qualify. Moving simple for school does not count

Yeah, I asked during the info session yesterday, and that’s what IUSM said as well.

Im really really considering this school! Would a current student please DM me I want to ask some questions

congratulations!! did you fill out the internal financial aid application prior to receiving the offer?
Thank you. No, I did not fill that out. I did submit my FAFSA couple weeks ago. it also stated I get my top choice campus with the scholarship.

Gotcha! I submitted my fafsa the first day it opened but for some reason it’s not checked off on the portal. I’ll give them a call Monday to make sure they got it. Thank you and congrats!!

My FAFSA is not checked off either, but I think those are pre-matriculation requirements. Once you decide you want to attend, I believe they will be checked off.

oh i see! thank you. have you or anyone else with As made your One IU accounts? I saw that orientation modules aren’t available until July but I wasn’t sure if we’re expected to log in prior to that

I have a One IU account due to IU undergrad, but I doubt you are expected to have an account right now if they haven't sent u the info.

Anyone who interviewed for the UMP, how was that interview? Was it similar to the normal MD interview?

Can I ask approximately how far out from now yours was scheduled for? I'm trying to figure out how to budget taking time off from work 😢
Yeah no worries! I got the email on the Nov 28 for interview and I'm interviewing tomorrow!

The interview was very pleasant and with 2 interviewers. Definitely prepare your answer to why UMP. Couple of ethics questions but mostly just a conversational type of interview trying to determine if you're a fit for the program. Good luck!

Could someone explain to me the differences between the campuses? Is indi the best campus? Or are the other campuses equally as good?

I got accepted into it last month but from my understanding I was one of the first waves to interview for it (first week of October). I would go for it you're interested. It seems like a really solid program and my interviewers (a lot of them RMEP faculty) were super nice.

i think those who received scholarship offers have because they get their first choice. from what i understand, assignments will be out in the spring
Do you mean people who went Early Decision? Or people have already been assigned campuses who didn't go ED? I was accepted in first wave and thought they didn't do campus postings until May-ish

If you receive a scholarship offer, you get your top choice campus. I am regular MD and received the offer last week. Early decision already know what campus they will be at because they always get their top choice.

Does anyone know what is the criteria for scholarship for regular MD? I believe some of you got it even before filling the FAFSA and are not ED.

Are u guys referring to the recruitment scholarship (18k/year IS, 30k/year OOS), or is this something different?

it's super hard. I lived 18 years of my life in Indiana and went to college in a different state and am considered out of state

Not sure what the scholarship recipients received but last year this scholarship was given out in the spring.

If I recently was promoted to a scribe trainer, should I provide an update? I interviewed last month

I personally would not (as someone who is both a scribe trainer and also interviewed here!). From what I understand updates should be saved for new grades or significant changes/achievements that aren't really mentioned in your app. Just my take though.

if I have any advice from having received my A last month… just wait on that portal update. I waited 6 days to get my letter and by day 5 I was like well… not coming. it came, the day before the portal update!

I know some people even got letters days after the update so just don’t lose hope these next 7 days!!
