2022-2023 SUNY - Downstate

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This year it says the 19th so that would be Sunday, and in past years it has been more or less around that date.
Oh right its 19th not 21st. Thats right around the corner. I hope they release the decisions around that time..

For about a good 20 minutes I thought they accepted me to the MD program. Then something told me to reread the email and ofc it’s for the mph program LMFAOO does no one else find that so cruel like babes I’m a MD/MPH candidate. Shouldn’t the MD admissions come first
Yep same here. This honestly speaks to how insanely mismanaged and ignorant the admin is at this school, which is in line with what current students have said multiple times on Reddit and SDN. It may not be a dealbreaker for some, and you’ll still get a great education, but that’s it for me. I’m fortunate enough to have been accepted elsewhere and will be withdrawing my application over this. I can’t even imagine how tough this was for applicants with no A’s yet. It’s awful.

On the 0.0001% chance anyone from the admin office is reading this: do you realize the student portal, which we all used to apply to the MD PROGRAM , says: “Congratulations! You’ve been accepted!!” and literally nothing else unless you do some digging? Are you kidding me with this? Whose idea was it to accept people to the MPH program like this, when MD applications are still pending?

Truly and profoundly out of touch. Best of luck to anyone still waiting for (actual) decisions.

Yeah honestly I love this school and id sell my soul to the devil himself if that meant I'd get an A, but they are a bit messy when it comes to management.
I'm just coming to terms with the fact that it's gonna be a rough next couple of months, in case we don't hear back soon.

Quick question for anyone that can help please. What are we supposed to do if we get into the MPH and no MD interview yet? There is a deposit involved and and a deadline to accept it's so confusing.

I thought the same, and I thought it was so strange bc I haven't received an II for MD! *insert upside down smiley face*

Hey everyone
Based on this, is it fair to assume that if we don't hear back some time in mid Feb that we're places on waitlist?

I mean there hasn’t been like the big A wave like other years and there is still next week of mid Feb

I called the admissions office a few minutes ago. They basically said they’re sending out acceptances every week, and then as people decline their acceptances they send out more as more seats open up. I tried to get a specific date out of him that they would release a big wave but he just said “there’s a range of dates.” Hopefully we’ll all hear soon 🙁

Well that's a heck of a lot better than last year if you interviewed in 2023 (one wave in Feb, then January+ interviewees get a decision in May). This was also their stated policy last year though so who knows..

Kind of a bruh moment cause this implies that seats have to be opened up and that they are already full 😓

It just sucks if they make us wait until April/May tho.. Guess there's nothing to do but wait 🙁

idk tbh wouldn't we have seen more A's in this thread then? don't lose hope yet ;-;
I agree with this. There’s only like 10 acceptances posted on this thread. At the virtual chat and on their admission protocol they said they are releasing 300 acceptances in Feb so I would assume that there would have to be more people posting. So prob are just sending out a little each week

Then the admissions guy said that cause hes a psyop and gaslighting us, only explanation 😩

It was a complete nightmare lol definitely have someone drive you if you can

Would having to reschedule a campus tour affect my chances

good luck finding a spot, I was circling the block for days before I found one haha

I know I'm sorry I'm just sitting on 0 As and all WLs so I'm just assuming the worst 😭😭
don't apologize! i completely understand. i am also 0 As 😢 i just want to say, don't overthink and cause stress for yourself. it will all work out in the end regardless of the results <3

So if my interview is the first week of March, am I interviewing for a waitlist spot? Or does it seem like things are working a bit differently than last year?

Also does anyone know any information about their waitlist? Is it ranked or unranked? And does there seem to be some movement on it?

Can someone give me a run down of the interview day?

Mine is this upcoming week (finally lol) and my interview time is 2pm. I know there is a zoom call sometime during the day for me to show my ID/passport and there is a writing assignment due at 4pm. Will I have time after my 2pm interviews (since it’s two 30 min trad), I’m assuming I’ll be done by like 3:15pm. I need to clock in at work so I’m just tryna plan out my work day the day of my interview.

Ideally, the showing my ID call and my interview are all in the afternoon, and I can submit the writing assignment after my interview right before 4pm.

It is just a single interview the day of, which can last quite a bit, like 30min-1hr+. Before going in, they will check your ID in a few seconds. The writing assignment is pretty straightforward and shouldn't take long. Just remember you need a computer to make it a pdf and upload it to the portal.

Perfect, so there aren’t any info sessions the day of my interview?

Did anyone else get the "Requesting Confirmation of Interview Interest" email sent on 2/8? If so, have you heard back yet?

It sounds like they haven't yet reviewed all their applications from this cycle. Others from past Downstate sdn threads mentioned it, but I can't tell if it led to an ii or R.

I feel like downstate isn’t going to do a big wave and that they will continue this trend of a few acceptances at a time. That and i feel like there’s little hope for September interviewers like me since they seem to be in nov/dec rn

Maybe they have an internal ranking and are releasing based on that instead of by interview date. Especially since they are not rolling

What scares me about that is that we could be waiting weeks even months until we get a decision. I hope that's not the case tho.
