Definitely bring your car. Harrogate Campus is huge and hilly (would def take you some time to walk between DCOM and the other building we use) and you’d have no way to get to places off campus (grocery, restaurants, airport if needed for OOS b/c there is no Uber or anything to really get you there etc). I’m originally from ~12 hours away and I drive home for the longer breaks as well.
Dang really? I’m from the west coast lol. Alright thank you!

same here, Im in michigan 8.5 hours away so i plan on bringing my car, plus to drive to knoxville occasionally

I know a lot of people who live at Ball Realty. Also keep an eye on the LMU-DCOM Housing Facebook group as places are posted on there pretty much daily.
me along with many other OMS0 have found places off the facebook group

I am only year 2 so I haven’t been on rotations yet but they are a lottery system. So you rank all of the available sites and then the lottery places you wherever you’re gonna go. There is a chance to do a swap with someone else seeking one as well if you end up not pleased with where you get (and another person is in the same boat). There is also the option to do audition rotations, which depends on where you’re trying to go to. But as far as rotations go that’s all I know for now. 2 of my friends going into third year both got within their top 5 places for rotations sites 🙂
can i ask when people typically do audition rotations? what does this mean? do you do these where you'd like to match?

fourth year. it’s like a residency interview but you work there for a rotation to show your skills when you’re especially interested in that particular healthcare system. AOAs website has more info if you’re interested in reading more

Can I get advice on ordering the necessary medical equipment through the school? Do most students go that route/Is it worth the price or is it significantly less to buy it yourself? Also, did you purchase the books before starting, did you wait, or did you use the online resources? Your replies have been super helpful so thank you!

So happy to be helpful! I do think most students go this route, unless they already had some of the equipment from a previous job or something. I bought whatever the cheapest package provided from the school was. You do use every single item in It during the first year so you do definitely need It. And, you can choose for the $800 or whatever It is to come out of your financial aid package so you don’t have to pay out of pocket (unless you want to).
I did not buy a single textbook. When you get matched with your mentor (in the coming weeks), there are Google drives that have been passed down for generations of students with all the necessary textbooks in PDFs that they’ll give you (among other fabulous resources!). I’ve used everything digital to save money! And not every class I have found the textbooks to be useful for, but everyone is different. That’s why I definitely wouldn’t buy any book ahead of time because if you don’t end up utilizing it, It would be a waste of money. The only thing I’ve ever bought a hard copy of was the dissector book for anatomy lab, and my lab partners and I all split the cost for It (you only need one per group and it’ll get thrown out at the end bc It will be nasty lol)

Has anyone successfully moved to Knoxville from the Harrogate campus recently?

Hello, has anyone gotten off the WL recently? Seems like the Harrogate GroupMe went from 100 to 140 people in about a week

To all current students or recent graduates of LMU-DCOM Knoxville.

I wanted to know a little bit more about the clinical rotations in your 3rd and 4th years. I've seen on different SDN and Reddit threads that students have to search for their own rotations, but on their website and when I called them (LMU) they said we are assigned our core site and our rotations near that site. I know that the core site is given through a lottery system but I wanted to hear from current students and recent graduates if this is true and if they have any problems with their clinical rotations.

I have a pending acceptance from a different school and am looking to compare, as they only gave me till Saturday to pay my deposit.

I know this has been discussed in this thread, but if you don't have a car you can bring to TN (particularly Harrogate) are you truly screwed? Are there rental options by chance? What do students there who don't have a car do?

To be completely transparent with you, I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t have a car at Harrogate. I’m not sure how conveniently you’d be able to manage without one, even if you lived on the campus. The campus is huge & hilly, and the two buildings we have classes in are probably at least a 30 min walk apart. Plus the main on campus housing option that people choose, University Inn, isn’t actually on the schools campus itself, and is about a five minute drive from It. Another thing to consider is how you’d get groceries and such as all the grocery stores are either in Middlesboro, KY (5 min drive from Harrogate) or Tazewell, TN (10/15 min drive from Harrogate). There is a rental car place in Middlesboro that my friend used for a week when their car was in the shop, not sure of the logistics though. I think It would be really hard to not have a car but I’m sure not impossible. Just want to be completely honest!!

Thanks for the info! Yeah I’m from the New England area (MA) which is why I figured it’d be difficult. If needed I’ll try to bring one.

I did also request Knoxville switch if they had any open spots so we’ll see but I imagine it’s pretty late and most of the campus is filled already. Obviously nothing against Harrogate and I love the outdoor opportunities too but Knoxville might be better for me logistically if the opportunity presents itself

When did you join the Knoxville waitlist?

I hear you. I'm from the Northeast as well so It definitely would be hard to not have a car. At least if you get switched to Knoxville, you will be closer to the airport and have Uber so that will make It more plausible to survive without a car. I typically drive home when I do go home just because It ends up being cheaper for me to buy gas twice than a roundtrip flying. Even if I lose my sanity driving that far lol

how do you join the Knox WL?

You can email them and they'll place you on a list. Admittedly though, with it almost being July already the chances of getting off might be slim. I think there's many who have been on it since May even who haven't heard back either.

I'm looking at the FB pages and online realtors, but I'm also considering University Inn (Harrogate) as a Plan B for 1-2 semesters maybe. Does any current students have any idea of how University Inn is, or maybe if they know people in it and their experiences? Thanks!

I just took a peek at the schedule for next semester... dang there's an exam on the very first week?!?
yes haha they do a “mini” exam the first week every year to get everyone acquainted with the testing protocols, give you a quick feel for if the way you’re studying is good, etc. it’s a pretty small exam in comparison to the usual block exams.

Thanks! I just hope it’s not super hard right out of the gate since it’s only the first week 😅
