This was my 2nd application cycle, 1st time application to UCSD. I've long been lurking in these forums, so I wanted to give info and help anyone else. Let me know if I missed something. Also accepted to UCLA on the same day.

If you're comfortable answering are you ORM or URM? Also did you do anything outside of your primary app and secondary application with either school?
Solid middle-class white girl. Parents were federal law enforcement so not medical, but both have BAs. I actually worked for a division of DGSOM for a few years and was a PI on grants for some projects, but they ended my contract before I even finished collecting data on the research projects so it's not that exciting. No ties to UCSD. I didn't send any updates and I didn't send any thank you notes after interviewing. Both schools seemed like they interpreted them as a hassle.

For those with A's, do you see anything under the "Verify Info" in the "Pre-Matriculation" tab? There is an error message that pops up when I click it and I don't see anything to complete under the tab.

I also see this. This might be an issue on the school's end. I don't believe it's been resolved yet.

For anyone who has already interviewed - do they allow you to use a virtual background?

Anyone interviewing 11/30 get the info email/zoom link yet?

I just realized I forgot to send a ty letter and my interview was two weeks ago... is it too late to send? I had it fully drafted and everything just forgot to upload it :,)

Is it too late to receive a secondary from this school?

POSSIBLE OUTCOMES AFTER THE ADMISSIONS COMMITTEE REVIEWS YOUR AMCAS APPLICATION

  • Not initially invited to submit a secondary application. You may not receive notification from the admissions office immediately. All applicants that are not invited to submit a secondary application will be re-evaluated by the admissions committee in January and we may decide to invite additional applicants to submit a secondary application at that time. Applicants not invited to submit a secondary application at that time will be notified by e-mail that they are no longer under consideration.
Looks like some more people might get them in January.

It's an MMI, who are you writing a thank you letter for?

I was under the general impression that you do not send thank you notes for MMI's.
I wrote a letter to every single one of my mmi interviewers here 🤷🏻‍♀️

Did you upload each of them individually through the secondary portal? I'm interviewing soon and curious about this as well. Thank you!

Nope I sent them as separate attachments, including one for the admissions team, to the somadmissions email address and asked them to please distribute them 🙂

That makes sense thank you so much for answering!

Omg that's a lot of letters! I think it was mentioned today that they recommended to send a general one to the email address (but someone can correct me if I'm wrong)

I feel like there has been no big wave of interview invitations since before thanksgiving break. Do we think that the last August group might be hearing back tomorrow? 😭

Were these personalized or did you have mostly the same text for each of these letters? How did you find stuff to talk about in your thank yous given the MMI format?

Same intro, different body recapping what we talked about that stood out or was interesting, same ending 🙂 I mean we talked for about 8 mins total in each station, there was lots to write about. Ex. I really enjoyed sharing about my journey going through my dog spot having cancer (or "thank you for allowing me to share" as I realize that probably wouldn't be "enjoyable" but you get the point) when discussing how complex end of life topics can be for patients (totally made up lol)
