IS Secondary received for Prime-LA. Is there a way to switch back to applying regular MD. Why is the Prime-LA Supplemental so long 🙁

Yeah there is! Just resubmit through the AMCAS portal and uncheck PRIME. The portal should update the next day (I just did it last week for the same reason lmao)

Oh thank god! Does the 15-day deadline reset, or is it still timed based off of the initial secondary invitation?

Quick question! For the research experience question, from what you understand, are we supposed to describe our role in each specific research project, or our role in the lab more broadly? It sounds like the latter, but just want to make sure...

I had the same question! Personally, I decided to follow the format they suggested - "i.e. paid/volunteer research position" - and added another line specifying basic/translational/clinical research.

Did anyone else somehow forget to put number of hours dates and advisor for the research question or just me? I was struggling to fit my answer in 800 characters as it is and then I guess I just forgot about that part of the question. But like dude, that’s in our primary application. Give us 1000 characters if you want us to waste 200 repeating AMCAS info

I am curious about this as well.
Does anyone know how answers for the pathways are viewed in relation to the secondary app? Is it only seen if you are accepted? I'm wondering how repetitive it can be to my secondaries / if I should make sure to talk about commitment to a particular population before I even answer the two extra questions.

Did anybody else apply to the Global Health Equity Pathway? Just submitted my application for it, but that took a lot of time to write all five of the essays. I can't imagine anybody applying unless they really wanted it, so maybe that's the point?

Does anybody know if the applications to both DGSOM and the Global Health Equity Pathway are considered together? or is it one of those things where if you get into the medical school then they'll look at your application to the global health program?

One question, is the committee for DGSOM and PRIME the same? or is it different? Can the secondaries be similar or not? I'm running out of experiences lmao hahaha

I applied for it but I honestly kind of Speedran the essays and submitted the same day.

I imagine it's reviewed after acceptance? I hope lol

I had the same question too, especially since much of my secondary app is talking about similar topics. I'm assuming (hoping) they only read the pathway essays once they decide to admit you. And then I don't know if those are considered alone or holistically, I presume holistically in which case my application will be redundant but oh well.

i was told that they only look at that if you get accepted

i was told the global health pathway is competitive

Hey, do you guys know if for the "Oustanding Physician and ...", they literally want us to repeat this same statement in our subsequent responses during the ABC prompt? For example, for the research one, do we have to start off answering the prompt with "Oustanding Physician and Researcher ...."? If so then this is cooked, that's like 30 essential characters right there lol.

Don't do that

Our most meaningful activities don't have to be clinical right? I'm using a clinical experience for the urban health pathway anecdote, but I know this won't be read until later so I'm not too sure if it'll work against me for the ABC responses

I only mentioned the "outstanding physician and" in the first prompt. For my research one, I just talked about how it'll contribute to me being an outstanding physician-- it doesn't connect to my "and" at all

Oh no, I just related it back to one of the missions I stated. For the one, I said community engagement and then gave an example of how I was a leader in that. That way there is minimal loss of characters.
Ayyy that works!!!

Received secondaries from UCSD, UCI, UCD, and UCR but not UCLA or UCSF yet... anyone else in the same boat? I'm IS with 506 MCAT and 3.79 GPA.

For "Do you identify as being part of a group that has been marginalized (examples include, but are not limited to, LGBTQIA, disabilities, federally recognized tribe) in terms of access to education or healthcare?" what is the general consensus about disclosing a learning disability?

Are you guys approaching these prompts through a story or just sharing your experiences generally and talking about your insights? Im so damn tired from writing stories after the primary....

It’s tough to write a good story when they ask about describing experiences in under 800 characters imo. I wrote in a more general way, justifying how those experiences shape my mission for pursuing medicine

Up to you and your comfort level. However, it can be a compelling part of your narrative if you frame it around your growth and if you are now passionate about working with others who are similar.

is it true that if you apply to the Urban program then they first review your application for urban program, then if you're rejected then send your application to the general MD pool? Essentially meaning that by applying to Urban program, we are delaying our spot in the genral MD pool? Saw this on SDN thread in 2020

Not sure about the urban program but I think they do this for the PRIME program...

oh rip I regret applying to urban program now lol. I was pretty competitive for regular MD but I think i just ruined my chances

Naurrrr I hope this isn't the case my essays for the urban program were real bad 🙁

I believe they don't send secondaries to people with IAs based on last year 🙁 I'm sorry. I would make reach out and ask though if you are die hard for ucla
wait so if i have an IA i got no shot at ucla? 🙁

Well I wouldnt say that forsure! I just know last year they screened people out who had AIs. I would email them if you are die hard for ucla though!!

This is purely speculative but I highly doubt that they screen out all applicants with IA's. I'd be willing to be bet they review the IA to see what it is. Some IA's are really minor and I can't see them screening out otherwise strong applicants for something like a noise violation or having a toaster in your dorm room.

It's possible that they might be stricter than other schools on IA's (no clue whether or not this is the case), but I can't see them indiscriminately screening out all applicants with IA's.
