Hey California schools love me and Texas schools hate me; UCSF sent me an II last cycle when A&M, UT Houston, and UTSA didn’t lol. This process is weird.

when did you apply? i think that's a big factor for UCLA. I honestly dont think that I got a decent chance cuz I applied to late and UCLA always has strong applicants and numerous of them

I sent my app in on 7/6. They acknowledged my app on 8/12.

I heard that schools reject faculty or people with associations to show non-bias. I got rejected pre-interview from a school where I did research and it is a known idea on campus. Apparently it’s an unwritten rule.

Well then this would be considered bias if youre rejecting your own people, so I would be weary about this

idk how true this is bc several people i know got ii to the schools they attended undergrad + worked at post grad but there could be some schools that are exceptions

While I can see this happening sometimes I doubt it's an unwritten rule. I know many people that got accepted to the institution where they studied or worked, inside and outside of CA. I think the issue is that the volume of people with connections to an institution that apply to that school is very high: If you went to college at UCLA of course you will apply to their med school. Because of that I'm sure many of their undergrads will be rejected just because the acceptance rate is so low. I'd be interested to see how that acceptance rate compares to the overall rate but I suspect that the difference would be statistically insignificant. All to say that maybe sometimes a connection can hurt you, sometimes it may help you, but no one beside the admissions committee can say how that paradigm applies to your specific situation.

Perhaps. I have a few friends on the adcom and I was told this was not the case.

Schools are looking for certain things. Frankly, I know I would be a great physician scientist, but if schools aren't interested in that or if they feel someone else better fits the research heavy description, what can you do?

WashU premed office publishes data on where their students go for medical school. You will see that quite a few go to WashU med compared to their peers. In fact, I think the matriculation stats are lower than WUSM's MSAR averages. This take might be a little cope IMHO. Med admissions is too much of a black box to try and tease out every factor in decisions.

Haha amen I hope so but if not I'm soooooo excited for this A regardless!!! UCLA became my top choice after the interview. I had an amazing experience and connected with both interviewers, but one of them specifically said he hoped they recruited me which left me floored afterward. But I know a lot of interviewers say this so I didn't get my hopes up but hey everything is going to be ok 😭😭😭😭

can confirm lots of my washu undergrad friends go to washu med school
