I know McGovern does scholarship applications in the spring but does anyone know what kind of merit scholarships they offer?

I was doing some research on MSAR and their post II A rate is 1/5. Anyone else seeing the same thing as me?

Sam Houston is even crazier because they interview close to 1,000 applicants and matriculate 160ish

I think it’s important to consider how the Texas match system works.

While they interview 1000 IS students and enroll ~200, they likely did accept or would have accepted more than the 200 who ended up enrolled. There are many applicants/interviewees who may not have ranked McGovern #1.

So 1/5 is likely an underestimation?

At least this is the logic I’ve been telling myself. Please be true.

I would have to agree because first, McGovern must give out more acceptances to fill out their class to make up for people who choose to go OOS or not enroll. But I think the TMDSAS Match system also helps to pair one student with one school, which is why out of those who interview, the A rate is like ~85%. So I am sure the odds are much higher than 1/5.

Y’all are pulling these numbers out of thin air.

Wait, I got my numbers from one of your posts. I can't remember where, but I think I saw something like 2900 get interviews and like 2500 got As. I could be completely wrong there though.

Edit: Looked through the TMDSAS data. Seems like for IS applicants for 2022 EY, ~2900 interviewed and ~2200 were accepted. So the percentage should be more like ~75%.

I think it was more like 1650/2900.

I know of the post you’re speaking of and I know it was nice to see but I also don’t think it was 85% haha.

Oh ok, I knew that number did not seem right when I saw it. 🤣

Yep I never said 85% and I can't find my prior post right now.
75% of Texans who interviewed that year (EY2022) matriculated to a TMDSAS school, that is right.

Yeah, this was my bad. Sorry about that.

It’s around 75% based on the tmdsas website.

For McGovern, usnews data says 44% got accepted post interview in 2021. Since 2021 was the super competitive covid year, the percentage should be similar or better this year.
My only question about that data is if it takes into account people who get several acceptances. That would definitely skew the percentage to seem higher than what it may actually be.

US News data 🙄....I will put my trust in AAMC data and TMDSAS data.

I have heard admissions committee members say that they may have to make up to double the number of offers as their class size by the end of it all to complete their class. That doesn't mean that many offers are extended before the deadline (or in the case of TMDSAS, before Match Day). But with people changing their minds, going elsewhere, withdrawing, or eventually getting in from a WL the 44% estimate from @Bonehead11 sounds about right.
So in your example, yes, some may have been offered admission by McGovern but matched to a different school or chose an OOS school.

In 2021 McGovern accepted 377 out of 861 instate. They had 229 enroll. They interviewed only 40 OOS, admitted 22 and 11 enrolled.

This school controls not admitting too many people by controlling prematches thus not losing them to Baylor/UTSW etc and whoever truly wants to come has to rank them high in the in the match.

Sorry if someone asked this: can we wear jeans to the second look? Nice shirt and blazer with it but like flats lol for walking?

I am sure you would want walking shoes unless you feel good walking long distances in your flats. Blazer is probably overkill for walking around outside unless it is for weather but jeans, especially blue is underwhelming for a would be medical student. 🙂

I would expect BUSINESS CASUAL.. with comfortable walking shoes.

Thanks! Saying “dress comfortably” is not very explicit which is what they said lol

Business casual is expected even in dress comfortably. Business casual includes dress cotton pants and a shirt which are comfortable. People do go for walks in the office in business casual.

They dont expect you to wear a suit when they say wear comfortable but blue jeans, jogging outfits etc., while comfortable makes one stand out the wrong way.

Where did you get this statistic?

Heyy all!

Sorry if this has been asked multiple times, but I've seen conflicting info so I just wanted to clarify: if you don't factor pre-match in, does it matter when you interview?

Thanks in advance!

All interview dates are valid - McGovern is not a school that hands out a lot of pre-matches, so fills its class mostly on Match Day and therefore with applicants who ranked it very high on their list

On the tour day, McGovern basically said letters of intent and update letters don’t matter. So, is me sending either just sort of for my mental state? Can it be negative aka it annoys them even though they said we could send them?

If you’re going to rank them 1 that’s your proof you intend to go there.
However if you end up on their WL after Match Day that’s when you need to send a convincing letter of intent.
In the end be sincere and do what makes you feel you have done what you need to.
A letter of intent only goes to one school…

I was more asking about an update letter for a publication like if I even need to send them it since they’re saying they don’t need it. Should I just hold out until I rank/am waitlisted if I am?
