thank you everyone for the amazing resources!! i will look into them thoroughly ◡̈ <3

Buddy you are EXACTLY what they’re looking for if they invited you for an interview, especially that fast!!

AH IDK i was also very surprised at how quickly they responded to me with an invite BUT i keep gaslighting myself into thinking maybe i was just a token interview invite 😭 i'm just an anxious person

You got a II! You definitely deserve it! Go and do amazing at that interview!

Me convincing myself that I didn’t prematch because they must have gotten postponed and not because my interview was garbage:

any hotel recommendations from anyone who may have stayed at one for their interview?
I stayed at the hilton garden inn, it was a bit of a drive in the morning though due to traffic but i would recommend it

when we have people visit, we like to put them at the extended stay by the university. that’ll put you on the right side of town as well!

from what is on the website and what i heard during my interview, there are only two prematch dates.

I had heard that too. I just saw the person who said it was moved until this Tuesday, also said it was happening next Tuesday.

I want you to prematch sooo bad in January you don’t understand. Ima host an SDN party
i will combust with excitement fr. i’m sure there’s lots of spots left for Jan calls!

i wonder if they’ll be more match dependent this year- last year they prematched the whole class!

so the med school/hospital is kinda off by itself on the outskirts of Tyler! If you wanted to stay near shopping/restaurants there's a a Hilton Garden and a Holdiay inn off broadway about 25 minutes from the med school. I drove 45 minutes in on the morning of my interview bc I live on a smaller town on the outskirts and I made it fine, there's not a ton of traffic. If you wanted to stay closer to the med school you could look at areas near UT Tyler campus (the college not the med school lol). The mall has a Dillards and Cumberland Park Shopping Center has an H&M, TJ Maxx, etc if you need any last minute interview outfit items

i'm getting really nervous as my interview date approaches. i have horrible adhd and anxiety and i feel like it makes me appear like a poor interviewer. i am also not the most eloquent or articulate person and i am afraid that will be my downfall. maybe it's pure delusion but after getting an interview invite so fast i feel like maybe i have some chance of acceptance and i don't wanna mess it up AHHHHHHHHHHHH

Not medical advice ofc but discuss with your PCP/psychiatrist if taking propranolol might be right for you! Helps with anxiety 😁

Re-read your posts on this thread, @topochips
If anything will sink your upcoming interview, it's the self-critical and self-defeating comments you are making to yourself.

Your interviewers will expect you to be calm and ready to talk, so take a breath and prepare yourself as much as you can for the interview day.
Sign in feeling that you belong at the interview and take it from there.

I cannot agree with ANYTHING more. Mindset is everything. If you tell yourself that you’re not articulate, that you’re gonna mess it up, etc… the science has shown that you’re going to perform worse. Not to dox myself, but ppl on my interview day can attest to the fact that I was doing power poses right outside the MMI stations because confidence in yourself is key!

Only about 10% of applicants to this school got an interview last year. You EARNED it, @topochips and everyone else who has interviewed.

talked to a SOM student yesterday and they confirmed prematches were offered on Tuesday but they did not say how many

Anyone have any idea about OS A’s? I interviewed Oct 12, I hear about pre-match dates to notify applicants, but wondering if anyone has heard anything about when OS applicants might hear back 🤔 ?

OOS can hear any time after October 15th, UT Tyler recently said they will do 2 batches of offers before our Texas Match day in February, one was October 31 and the next will be in January.
As you probably know, OOS applicants don't participate in our Match algorithm. but I would still not expect another announcement of offers until January.

Bummed- loved the program. Thanks for the reply (my 1st post)!

This is an appeal to applicants who have taken Casper for admission to University of Texas Tyler SOM.

Complete the 2023 Situational Judgment Test Experience survey.

HPSA/SDN has the 2023 SJT Experience Survey available to anyone preparing for SJTs (especially Casper and PREview). If you completed the 2022 survey, you are welcome to go ahead and complete the survey again. This survey consists of multiple pages and will take up to 10 minutes. You can also place yourself on a waitlist for a study focusing more on school-run SJTs run through platforms like Kira Talent, to be released later in the year.

Your feedback matters!
We learned a lot about how applicants prepared for Casper and PREview last year, but the number of PREview schools has almost doubled this cycle! Over 20% of all AMCAS applicants will likely have taken PREview, and up to 90% of all medical school applicants will likely have taken Casper this cycle (according to Acuity Insights). This does not include applicants in non-medical professions who have had to take these assessments for admission to physician assistant, anesthesiology assistant, dental, veterinary, pharmacy, or physical therapy programs, where we see a trend that applicants with higher Casper results are preferred. Medical residency applicants are also being asked to complete Acuity Insights Assessments, and very little is known about how program directors use these data. Your responses are vital to get objective insights on how admissions committees value the results of these exams.

Your feedback matters!
We want to hear from as many people as possible, especially those attending or applying outside of medicine (MD/DO). This year saw an expansion of SJTs in admissions, and more information has been made available on preparing for these assessments. We want to stay current with these trends to guide future applicants and students facing these SJTs.

Many of our findings from the 2022 survey align with the NAAHP Testing Task Force report released last summer. This includes concerns about proctoring, consistency of scoring, and concern that applicants are paying for validity research. But we need more student voices to gain a louder voice to advocate for future health professional school applicants.

Your feedback has helped HPSA develop a workshop focused on preparing for SJTs like Casper and PREview. This workshop is part of our Becoming a Student Doctor preparation course, and we have already had some positive results among those who have participated in our mock interview workshops. An updated workshop will be presented at the UC Davis Prehealth Conference on October 14, and we welcome opportunities to present the full-length SJT workshop to your campus!

Fill out this survey and help future applicants become physicians in their chosen profession!

scroll through the thread, we’ve shared a lot about what the interview is like! 4 stations, one for tour, one MMI with 6 stations, one group activity and a presentation from faculty. i would recommend staying the night, the meet and greet i think is essential in feeling out school culture!

hello everyone <3 i submitted my secondary on 10/21 and received an interview invite on 10/26. i am from south texas with ties to surrounding rural cities. this is my first time going through the medical school application process and i am honestly terrified going into this interview

i'm slightly embarrassed to mention it, but to be completely honest with you all this is my first interview invite and the stress surrounding the application process has led me to believe that this may be my only invite. therefore, i feel a lot of pressure going into this ˙◠˙ if anyone has any tips on how to prepare for the MMIs, i would love to hear it!! i need all the help i can get

best of luck to everyone, i really hope we all make it somewhere
im actually in the same position and interview this week! i am sooo stressed knowing that this is my only one as well, so know that you are not alone! good luck to you!!!

to anyone who has interviewed already, how stressful are the MMI's/group activity? this will be my first interview, so I am pretty nervous about it... i have also not been able to complete any mock interviews with anyone.

also, if anyone knows how important interviews are in the admissions process at ut tyler, please lmk!

thank you!

More than happy to do a mock interview with you to get your nerves out!

(I haven’t interviewed for Tyler)

they just want to see that you are passionate about rural healthcare/improving healthcare in our region. We've talked a little bit about the MMI process on this thread if you scroll back a little. I honestly did not prepare at all and just talked about my experience growing up in a nearby town (well out on a ranch but I talked about my closest town lol) and volunteering at Bethseda and nearby hospitals. I felt like I was able to relate my experiences well but I do think I should have prepared a bit more to sound more polished! ( I caught myself saying "like" and "stuff" for example LOL). The MMIs seem scary but eventually you get into the swing of things and it starts to feel fun - if you ever did a judging contest with 4-H or FFA where you have a clipboard and go station to station you know what i mean, you start to channel that nervous energy and you do a little better each station! 😂😂

Thanks so much! For the MMI station, do you think preparing with the sample MMI's online is a good idea? For example, I found some on this site. What confuses me is that all the MMI's I have been founding online do not really draw on personal experiences, but more general ethics/how you think. Also, is there any preparation for the group activity and is it competitive vibes? Please let me know and thanks again! 🙂

So we're not going to be able to tell what the MMIs were like or what the group activity was but at every school I've been to including Tyler they give you a little prep talk/explanation before you do the group activity! Think about team building/ice breakers you've done at work or school, similar to that! Don't stress too much, just focus on yourself and your story you want to convey! ♥

hey i'm interviewing this week too!! ◡̈ i'm manifesting good things for us 💌

minimal stress!

i believe interviews are about 25-50% of your final “score”

OOS secondary invite today. No ties to the region. I doubt I will be selected if I fill it out so I’m not sure I will

for people who are interviewing this week and later, will we not hear any news about acceptances until january 24th if we pre-match?? or is there a possibility that they will tell us sooner??

does anyone know if the interviewers have access/read your application before?
thanks!

question: some students at the interview said that tuition was free for the second class as well. But I haven't found anything on their site to back that up. Is this true or not?

It is true, the first 2 classes that enter will have tuition paid for all 4 years of school.
