What’s your least favorite thing?

Okay, I’m done. Hopefully this wasn’t too much. Not too many opinions on Wayne State med that I could find. Thank you for taking the time to do this!! I have an interview here so looking forward to your response!
hi there sorry for the delay, its exam week and im just now checking sdn

1) i personally feel the culture is super collaborative here! everyone ive personally met has been helpful and down to study/work on things together/share resources/etc. i think it helps the curriculum is p/f
2) i am IS and i was fortunate enough to not take loans, so i can't really speak to the financial aid aspect, sorry ):
3) we have 2 class counselors (clinical psychologists, i believe) and we have to meet with them once per year i think? the appointments are free, and i just met with my counselor who was actually pretty helpful. they are there for you to support you mentally through medical school, and additionally in case something comes up and you're sick/have to miss class/etc. they're also oddly useful for guiding you on what to do to achieve your desired specialty. for example, if you want to do optho, they have resources for WSU SOM optho alumni/research/what residencies want/etc. there is more beyond that but i'm not sure exactly what as i've never personally used them, but the class counselors are wonderful!
4) there's tutoring for every subject, both peer-to-peer tutoring and also individual help from the profs themselves.
5) i'm not sure about m2 but for m1 we have 3 faculty authored exams per block (about 2-4 weeks apart, it just depends on the block), 1 nbme-style exam during the last week of the block, and an anatomy practical during the last week of the block. i am not really sure what's different/new in the curriculum, but i'm enjoying it so far. some classes seem unnecessarily detailed (like embryo and biochem), but i think that's always the case when we have faculty authored exams. i will say i think most of our profs are absolutely wonderful and genuinely good teachers. they are also always available to help 1 on 1. for the most part, i feel our exam questions are fair.
6) you can't really fail an exam, you can only fail a class. so your exams (faculty authored, nbme, and anatomy practical) along with some points for busy work are weighted and averaged together at the end of the block and you just need a 70% overall to pass. i have personally not failed (<70%) an exam or class, but one of my friends who scored below a 70% on an exam said the office of learning and teaching reached out to them asking to meet. my friend met with them and they basically just helped him refine his studying techniques. he said it was actually pretty helpful. beyond that i'm not sure, exactly, what happens if you score less than 70 on an exam or in a block. i believe you can remediate the block. we don't have individual classes for anatomy/histology/biochem/etc, it's all lumped into one class called human body foundations.
7) i'm from the metro detroit area, so i personally have always loved detroit, but if you're not from here then i'd say it's fun. different than other cities, it's a lot bigger and more sparse, but there's a lot to do here: concerts, sporting events, outdoorsy stuff, good food scene, etc etc. really anything you want to do, you can find down here. and if you're worried about safety, downtown and midtown (where campus is located) are all very safe. WSU has their own police that patrol the midtown area and they're excellent, they have a response time of something crazy like 60 seconds and generally are kind and helpful. for example, they helped my friend get into her locked car for no charge or anything.
8) hard to pick just one thing, but i really do love my classmates, wayne is super social and everyone wants to get to know everyone. there are tons of social events which are all super fun. student orgs are great and you can get involved during m1 and rly make an impact through your org. the research availability is insane, and i rly enjoy the p/f curriculum.
9) i'd say that i don't love all of the team based learning we have to do. we have to come in person for a lot of it, which is fine, but i don't get a lot out of the team based stuff. biochem, histology, physiology, gross dissection, and case studies all have team-based components. i personally only really benefit from histology and gross anatomy, and i find it annoying having to come into school for just one class. but again, this is just me! i know a lot of my peers enjoy the sessions 🙂

i hope this helped, again, sorry for the delay, i forgot to check sdn and it's exam week. lmk if you want to know anything else!!

Wonder why’d they do that… interesting
imagine interviewing 1100 people already, they may just have given up lol... but more realistically maybe they have realized they have sent out too many A's already and they don't wanna interview people only to reject them bc of space/size issues in the class.

OOS Waitlist Post-Interview, honestly shocked by how fast they got back to me (I interviewed on Monday this week lol).

A similar thing happened to me. I interviewed on 11/13 and got waitlisted on 11/16.

For this school, is “Alternate Category” their name for waitlist? Some schools have both a waitlist and then alternate list. So does this school only have ONE group and they call it alternate category?

And the people saying they got off of the WL did you have the “alternate category” email? Thanks everyone and congrats!

Has anyone got an interview with a late completion date? I added them last minute and submitted early October.

Mine was the alternate category.
