+1! i know in previous years they’ve asked very specific questions (i.e. how does the covid vaccine work, what is a food desert, etc) would you say there were specific questions like this? how should i prep?
damn seriously? They asked what is a food desert?

for me they asked the difference between empathy and sympathy, what an implicit bias is. stuff like that. it is a service/community oriented school so questions on food deserts and stuff that impacts community health are important to understand. we also discussed my research experience very briefly. the student interview was a lot of "tell me a time when" type of questions so make sure you have a list of scenarios in your head and refresh your experiences. overall mine were super laid back and comfortable. the MMI I found pretty easy but the only thing is you have to like look for the prompt on the screen. Mine didn't pop up and the person was mad at me she was like "they didn't explain to you how to do it?" I was like obv not lol. the best advice is go on SDN interview feedback page, it was a lifesaver imo I read through and came up with answers and experiences for nearly all the questions reported on there and there wasn't a single question I was stumped on come interview day.

did any oos applicants who applied after their junior year, get any acceptance to wayne? doesn't have to be from just this cycle but also the one from last year too

If you mean traditional student, yes I got into Wayne as an OOS trad student. Current senior graduating in May and starting this fall.
if u dont mind me asking, can you lmk what your ECs were lol (i don't wanna pressure u, if u don't wanna say then that's completely valid)

Anyone have any ideas of when the next wave of As will be?
An earlier poster said they were told the committee meets every 2 weeks. If there are none today then probably next week, but no one really knows.

has anyone from the 12/1 interview date heard anything bc I'm stressing lol

huge congrats everyone!! For those accepted off the waitlist, did you write update letters/LOI? Is anyone aware of how strongly Wayne considers LOI/update letters for waitlisted applicants?

i did write a letter of interest and intent ! i uploaded in the portal and emailed to be safe and there did not seem to be an issue !

congratulations! do you have any advice on how to do a successful interview with them? any specific questions they had that stumped you?
No it was a really calm and fun interview. Just show your passion and give examples to your answers is my best advice. Try to show what you can offer to the school asap maybe.

Interviewed 11/6 and have heard nothing since, should i reach out to them or be concerned?

I was WL. Sent letter of interest. Sent update letter. I was accepted off WL. Someone on here did it and got accepted and I did the same.

wait whats a letter of intrest? does that increase your chances of getting off the waitlist or smth?

Letter of interest indicates that you are willing or interested in Wayne. You should list the reasons why you’re interested in Wayne. Send an update letter too with what you’ve done since you submitted your secondary. That may catch their attention and pull you off WL. All the best.

so on cycletrack its showing that there were a bunch of secondaries sent out? does that mean those w/out IIs were silent rejected?

I interviewed today and had an absolutely wonderful experience. In particular, the one-on-one interviewers I had were some of my favorite conversations I've had this cycle. It left a great impression on the school for me. Seriously hats off to them

I also interviewed here today and can second this. It was hands down my favorite interview experience this cycle!

Exactly how I felt today! Great vibes from fellow applicants too

Hey!
Can any current Wayne medical students on here message me? Was recently accepted, I have a few specific questions

Hey current students! Any tips on wardrobes for OOS people. I’m a guy from Cali coming here in all likelihood.

as far as winter gear, i'd recommend splurging on a nice warm winter coat, like something from a reputable brand

i just go hood up hands in the pockets and it keeps me warm no matter how cold it gets but if gloves and hat is your style then go for that!

but i guess anyone from Michigan or a cold weather state can chime in

not a current student but a metro-Detroit local. The best thing is have a coat for every type of weather; today its 36 degrees and rain/snow/hailing and then this weekend it's going to drop down to like 14 degrees. Today is a heavy rain jacket, the weekend will be a very warm winter coat (and if you do anything outside its best to layer so things like wearing leggings under your pants, a long sleave and sweatshirt under your coat)! In the spring it gets hot but still rains, so you'll be way too warm in a winter-type rain jacket. Also a lot of people buy ugg boots/cloth type boots but you're just going to ruin them because it gets super wet and we salt everything. Not saying you can't have them, but don't rely on them as your "winter" boots. July/August it gets 80-90 and humid. Really just be prepared for all weather, you never know what you're going to get. Detroit can be pretty windy because of the river and the big buildings create wind tunnels which tends to make it feel a bit colder. I did undergrad at Wayne and I would often have a scarf on the cold days and wrap it around most of my face/head/neck walking to class. The med campus isn't as spread out so it really isn't too awful.

(Also if you're going to have a car watch some videos about how to drive in the snow. It might seem silly but I have OOS friends that buy jeeps and stuff thinking they can drive in the snow, but the problem isn't getting the car going its stopping and they all get in at least one minor accident when the weather gets bad.)

Thanks for the advice!

what laptop should accepted students get? Should they also get an iPad? Any advice for accepted students is appreciated.

Really any laptop should work! You will need to be able to run Examplify for quizzes. So if you want to see if your current laptop is capable of doing that, just google Examplify system requirements and they have everything listed on one page for both Apple and Windows. Canvas and Zoom are the only other applications we use, and those basically run on any browser/computer.

I personally have a 14in MacBook Pro that I got right before starting M1 and I have loved it! I halfway through undergrad, I got an iPad Pro 11in, so I brought that with me to med school. I personally love taking notes on lecture slides, so my iPad+laptop combo was my go to during M1/M2. Halfway through M1, I purchased an external monitor from Costco (I think it was around $100 because of a Black Friday sale). This was a game changer when studying for exams specifically because I could have practice questions pulled up on my laptop and an external resource/lecture slides/lecture notes pulled up on my monitor. That being said, an iPad and external monitor definitely aren't necessary (whereas a laptop definitely will be)! You can figure out what combo of devices you want what your previous study methods have been. You can always buy devices throughout the year, but it would suck to purchase devices because you think you will use them and then they just end up sitting in a drawer!

As for clerkships, I have heard that some students like to take their iPads around with them. I don't see myself doing that personally because I feel like I might misplace it or it could just get dirty. So I plan on just using a notebook and then having my laptop and iPad in my bag to do practice questions during my downtime.
