Has anyone been inside the new building? What were your thoughts?
They gave us a tour yesterday for Future DO day.
Still moving furniture and adding finishing touches, but otherwise it was all up and running. Honestly the building was quite nice, and you could tell they made a point to get lots of feedback from current students. For example, they had a "furniture fair" at the Biddeford campus where they had the students demo and vote on things like seating and study spaces to get their opinions.
Donor lab (cadaver) is outfitted with cutting edge stuff, displays and surgical lights, all the rooms are connected so you can check out other donors with unique anatomy while your class is in the lab. 4 people per donor, and they spend lots of time covering anatomy on a weekly basis and integrate things like radiology and histology with the dissections.
There's an OMM clinic open to the public, and clinical rooms for OSCE's where the actors come and go.
Kitchen and fridge space for COM students, spot for a grab and go spot for snacks.
Lecture hall wasn't fully finished yet but very large and gorgeous, with a MASSIVE screen. Study rooms throughout are wired with microphones and screens so you can participate in lecture on campus without actually being in the room. Group study spaces similar. Little things like charging ports and wi-fi boosters for connectivity. OMM lab with multiple screens and an instructional podium for demonstrations. Speaking of, they gave an OMM demonstration linked to a case study taugt by some of the OMM fellows, and had a student with a camera to project the demo live in the classroom for everyone to see.
Overall the space was very modern, kind of felt like a WeWork building. SimLab was cool, kind of what you'd expect and shared with nursing students and stuff. Personally I think SimLabs are a little corny and the uncanny valley mannequin that blinks has never really impressed me, but it's there.
They had a lot of 2nd year students who stayed a little into their winter break to answer questions, give tours, hangout. Everyone was super kind, professional, and down to earth. Gave some presentations on financial aid, history of the school, etc. Good vibes.
If anyone has more questions hmu or dm I'd be happy to answer. The kinds of things I learned more about but I'm still deciding on are clinical rotations and research.
