2025-2026 East Virginia (EVMS)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I went to UCLA which is on a quarter system and had a series of Chem courses that was recommended to take to fulfill med school requirements. The series was: Chem 14A (gen chem), Chem 14B (gen chem), Chem 14BL (lab with a small lecture component, listed as gen/ochem lab 1, heavier focus on gen chem), Chem 14C (ochem), Chem 14CL (lab with a small lecture component, listed as gen/ochem lab 2, heavier focus on ochem), Chem 14D (ochem). I'm wondering if this will fulfill the requirements for EVMS. So far I have listed everything as such:

Gen Chem Lectures:
-Chem 14A
-Chem 14B
-Chem 14BL

Gen Chem Labs:
-Chem 14BL
-Chem 14CL

OChem Lectures:
-Chem 14C
-Chem 14D
-Chem 14CL

Ochem Labs:
-Chem 14BL
-Chem 14CL

It's a little confusing since the lab descriptions seem to cover both gen and ochem. I don't know if listing them as such where the courses overlap will count to EVMS's requirements. Furthermore, in this case, it seems that I would be missing a third lab for both Gen Chem and OChem. Would I need to take a third lab course for both? I took two Biochem classes but neither with a lab component.
Hi, I am having the same problem, did you email them/get a reply? If any UCLA or other quarter system students have insight on this it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I emailed them, but this was their reply:

"Thank you for contacting us and for your intertest in attending VHS-EVMS at ODU!

Unfortunately, we are unable to “Pre-Screen” pre-requisites prior to or after applicants’ submission of application.

You will be notified directly via email if any of courses do not meet requirement."

So I ended up just submitting my secondary and will wait for any further emails from them 🙁

My email says: "The supplemental application and all supporting materials should be submitted within 30 days to ensure a timely review. We will notify you once your file is complete." I understand some people's had 15 days prior to this?

So my question is, is this a hard deadline? Has anyone had luck submitting after the 30 days? I have a few other secondaries due today and tomorrow that I wanted to finish, those have hard deadlines.

For me, to make matters more annoying, I believe that when I submitted my primary I marked 14BL/CL as "Lab Only."

Anyway, how did you end up selecting the courses? as in your original post (just leaving the lab sections with 2 courses only)?

I might have done the same on my primary to be honest, but I decided to just list them down on my secondary as I wrote in my post. I figured if they had any questions on the lecture part of the labs, I could send them the course descriptions.

Unfortunately I didn't take any further chem labs, so I only filled the lab sections with those 2 courses. I imagine they will ask me to take more.

Thank you for replying so quickly! Good luck and I am sure we will be OK since most schools usually mean 1 year of lecture + lab

Of course! It's comforting to see someone with the same questions/in the same boat as me. But I agree, I think everything will work out. Best of luck to you too!

This is interesting because they for sure gave me a thumbs up when I asked them a similar question.

Huh yeah that is interesting. Well it is nice to hear that they said you would be fine! Hopefully, that will be the case for me too

Does anyone know if EVMS reviews in order of submission date? Haven't heard anything back yet and I am getting a bit nervous.

Submitted secondary on 7/21. I received an email on 7/21 stating, "We have received and reviewed your supplementary application. If you are selected for a virtual interview, you will receive an official invitation by email." At that time, I thought that was very quick!

So, based on a prior reply in this forum, there should be another email stating my application is "complete"???

I am IS. LM 68.

I submitted 8/1 and received this email on 8/5:" We have received all the materials required to complete your application. If you are selected for a virtual interview, you will be contacted via email with further instructions."

it was very chill! I had three interviewers in a Zoom with me, started with some standardized questions, and then we spent like half of the interview just talking and me asking questions (make sure to have questions prepared), overall very friendly and inviting atmosphere!

Did anyone else receive an email from EVMS Admissions about sessions where we can meet with their admissions officers in person? Would this potentially have an impact on getting an II?

Any idea when more in-state interviews will go out? I have had an interview at another in-state school and would like to interview at EVMS at some point.

IIs are pretty spread out through the cycle, atleast according to admit.org.

For those that have already interviewed did they mention if we would get a response on October 15th or give a specific timeline of when we would hear back?

I added this school on, realizing it really fit with what I want and who I am. The last 2 questions are overwhelming me ya'll :') how did you approach them? Is #6 just about your own identity or also how you've worked with or developed relationships with people different from you? and seeing that #7 used to be specifically about race, should you not answer this if you don't have an answer related to that or is it now opening it up to like whatever perspective experience or aspect of individual background has affected my life? I'm confused.. help!

Advice from just me, consider other people!
For 6: I answered it heavily on the latter, developing relationships with people different from me. Parts touched on my own identity, but they were more so there to show how others were different from my own background. I had a really nice unique story, and as an ORM, it felt a lot more natural to write that way.
For 7: They leave it super open, so you can treat it as an extra info/extenuating or unique circumstances essay. I answered it based on my reapplicant growth.
GLHF soldier! Not too late to submit, I submitted end of Sept and only just got the notification my app was complete recently!

past few cycles it looks like they don't start until late october/early november but you i guess we'll see lol

Does anyone know how many interview dates evms has already done? Or like how often they’re interviewing

Do you know if it was closed or open file? Were there any medical students interviewing you or just faculty?
