Hi everyone,

I was accepted to two schools so far: Rowan SOM (DO) and Frank H Netter at Quinnipiac.

Today I got an II to Albany. I definitely don't want to attend the interview if I know I will not attend the school. However if I will get a better education/get better experiences at Albany then the interview is definitely worth attending for me.

What I'm asking is does anyone think Albany has more to offer than either Rowan or Quinn??

Thanks for your input!

I have no idea about these specific schools but unless you have financial offers from one of them that Albany is unlikely/unwilling to match, I'd go on the interview. Unless cost is no object to you and you have some specific reason already for not wanting to go to Albany.

Personally, I would attend the interview or, even better, check the school specific threads for this year's Albany thread, find a current student, and PM him/her. You'll get far more information that way.

What do you have to lose by attending the interview at Albany? At worst, you'll find that you hate everything about the school and even if you do a lackluster job at your interview, it won't matter much since you're already set! Or, at best, you'll go and be surprised/blown away and find you really love the school and give yourself a shot for acceptance. The only thing I can think of that might deter you is the cost of travel, depending on where you're coming from, but in the grand scheme of things and after the amount of money you've likely already spent on this process, I think it's worth it. But of course, I don't know the details of your financial situation or your schedule in general, and whether scheduling the interview would be more trouble than it's worth. But the fact of the matter is, you did apply to Albany and if you're not sure where you want to go, why not consider another option? Do you feel like, in the future, you'd look back and wonder about this, wonder 'what if'?

Quinnipiac is a brand new school and as such should be approached with caution (not saying it's not a good choice for you or anyone else, but it's a big caveat emptor). Additionally, I'd personally be a bit concerned about the diversity/complexity of clinical cases you'd be seeing at Bridgeport given its proximity to Yale-New Haven. Albany on the other hand is a well-established school with a clearly carved out clinical territory, and I would say that it would behoove you to at the very least attend the interview. I unfortunately know nothing about Rowan, which in my bias makes me think it's a lesser-esteemed DO school but I'm 100% talking out my arse on this one.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I think I know what I'm going to do now.

Originally I didn't want to attend the interview if I knew I liked the schools I got into better, but I think it's pretty hard to find out how much you like a school without actually visiting since the info from the msar and websites are so superficial...

As for Rowan it's most definitely not a lesser esteemed DO school lol it just went a name change from UMDNJ-SOM

Are you saying that Yale-new haven will get all the good cases/trauma and you will not get good experience from rotating at st. Vincent's??

Trauma's a bit different because EMS will take patients to the nearest appropriately rated trauma center, but the really interesting/unique/complex cases almost certainly will end up at Yale, though it is possible/likely that they are transferred there from St. Vincent's. I won't say you won't get a good experience; that's a judgement call that I'm not equipped or willing to make, but Quinnipiac is a primary-care focused school and its clinical mix probably won't dissuade anyone from that route.

I tend to stay away from new schools cause they haven't developed a reputation yet for residency programs outside of their own teaching hospital. Although I don't think highly of Albany, I would go with Albany in this case. But that's just me
