The curriculum info is in the portal now. There is a lot of great info and it looks as if we will continue to receive weekly updates with more information about the school for four consecutive weeks. They even have daily course schedules already. Amazing.

Since MU-COM has not yet enrolled any students, we cannot provide any profile data for our college of osteopathic medicine.

However, the national profile of the 2011 entering class for all osteopathic medical school reveals an overall mean GPA of 3.48. For this group, the mean GPA in science is 3.36 and non-science 3.58. We anticipate similar numbers for our entering class in 2013. If your GPA is below 3.3, then this would deserve attention, recommend improving it to become more competitive. Graduate work with demonstrated high success in biomedical science would positively influence the admissions committee

**remember, they are looking for more than numbers and if you read a little earlier in this thread, there have been people with great numbers who were rejected. These minimum suggestions 3.3GPA and 25MCAT not a guarantee, as Im sure you know. Also, its getting more competitive as time goes on in the cycle

Random question: does anyone know anything about how anatomy is going to be run? By that I mean is it dissection or prosection, and what the student to cadaver ratio is? (Not sure if anyone can actually answer that last one, but I really like anatomy and am interested in knowing 😳 )

Edit: Never mind. Found it was dissection (i skimmed the curriculum too fast!), but I still wanna know the ratio 🙂

Yea I think they said it was going to be 5 students per cadaver. The different roles rotate, for example there is going to be someone dissecting and another student directing.

Definitely Dissection and not prosection.

I remember them telling us they had two where you can practice child birth and most schools have one. Surgery specifically I'm not sure I remember, for some reason 4 total is sticking out in my head? the tour guide was kind of jumbly so it was hard to keep track of everything

Good question! I'm wondering this too! Because it doesn't seem like there's any wiggle room for electives during the first year (I could be wrong though...)

You might want to send an email to MU-COM and check. They'll let you know if they've been received or not. If they aren't in the system they may give you specific instructions.

At my interview, they made mention that the anatomy and OMM labs were the sims........ twice. I am hoping they just forgot to mention the sims. I never heard them mention anything about surgery simulations.

Hello and congrats on your interview,

There are 6 scenarios they will ask you. You will have 2 minutes to read and think outside the door and then go in and respond for 8 min. There is 1 rest station and a 20 min personal interview. The scenarios vary in a wide range if categories, which will be presented to you in a ppt beforehand. Mine was def closed file to my knowledge, they didn't ask my specific things about my application.

1) All of the above.
2) If you read through the thread, you'll find that the interviewers only have your name, undergrad institution name, and your degree. Anything else you want them to know, you have to bring up yourself.

First, you're not expected to have vast medical knowledge. Second, an MMI isn't something that one can specifically prepare for like an orgo test with sn2 reactions. One of the best things to do is practice your basic interview skills like tonality, rate of speech, eye contact, smile, basic information, general questions relating to a standard med school interview, etc...

You can find information on the subject of MMI and practice how you would respond to various scenarios. One tip: as we are always told, communication is about much more than the words we use. Of course, choosing the right words can't hurt though. 😀

I think you'll find that the MMI is really enjoyable (compared to a traditional interview) so don't worry too much! I found example MMI questions online and just used those to practice...I actually had one of the questions I practiced at home in my interview which was surprising!

The biggest thing that helped me was anticipating what follow up questions my answer would yield. I know 2 minutes is not much time to construct an answer but I think it's important to be able to analyze multiple sides of an issue since most of the situations don't have a definitive answer.

Anatomy will be dissection. Also, there will be 35 stations in the anatomy lab. Each station will include a large screen monitor and computer for viewing MRIs and the like. Stations will include 5 students, which includes one navigator.

There will be a labor and delivery patient simulator, neonatal/infant simulator, approximately 3 Laerdal simulators including 1 SimMan® 3G and 2 SimMan® Essential. There will also be other advanced task trainers. Finally, we are working with St. Vincent Health to provide surgery simulation; they are launching a new $30 million facility in this area. As the details are confirmed, we will share more information with you.

There will not be "wiggle room" for electives during the first two years; however, you will experience areas outside of the basic sciences with our clinical and/or service learning components in the first and second years.

In terms of interview attire, is wearing a grey suit considered decent and interview appropriate or is it better to go with a blue or black suit???

I would say that dark grey is fine...that's what I wore 😎

I was a little "ball-sy," as it were, and went with light grey. And, despite (or because of) the color of my suit, I was extended an acceptance offer. I would highly recommend wearing whatever affords you both a professional and approachable appearance. I've always thought of light grey as a friendly color...

As for a color suit vs. black, there are several websites that recommend women, in a professional setting, ought to opt for blue or grey rather than a black suit. I'm not entirely sure why this is, and the nuance of professional fashion, to be honest, is something that escapes me. Personally, all things considered, I love my grey.
