i got an interview and i got the first one available. ... in late dec.
so do u think that its too late?? i wonder how many more seats are available 😱
 
I was worried about that initially too, but I don't think it is too late
 
I wouldn't worry about being too late yet. More spots may open up after the Dec. 15th deposit deadline anyway.
 
I sincerely hope that a January 19th interview isn't too late to nab a spot!

I'm liking what I'm reading about this program.

I really wouldn't worry. I suspect spots will open up come January since there will be people that won't put their deposit down next month. January really isn't that late. Good luck! 🙂

Like is it more about knowing about the latest healthcare issues and how to tackle ethical issues?

Knowing of the latest "health care issues" will certainly not hurt you--this will hopefully provide good fodder for table discussion. And, with regards to knowing "how to tackle" ethical questions, I do not think there is an explicit formula for this nor any single specific way of "tackling" the MMI scenario that is inherently "right."

That said, I think the best you can do is to read the issue over carefully and allow yourself to consider multiple angles--the worst thing that can be done, I think, is to oversimplify an issue. Give the interviewers a glimpse into the complexity and reasoning capabilities of your thought process--consider pros and cons, consider those sticky, specific scenarios within the broader scenario that might serve as exceptions to any "hard and fast rule." Consider the things that might render your argument invalid.

And, of course, I think being familiar with some of the current happenings in health care might help you prepare for examining situations thoroughly--practice considering positions you do not agree with and try to figure out whether or not that side makes a sound argument. This will help prepare you mentally for the MMI to come. At any rate, I apologize for the abstraction of this reply but hope that it helps ease your mind. Just look at each scenario as a word problem and be prepared to verbally parse and logic out your solution process. The best of luck to you!
 
I got accepted today!!! I'm pretty happy about it but now I dont know which to choose... KCUMB or Marian. I'm from Indiana so it's tempting to go to Marian since it's so close to home and in a city that I'm so used to. But, on the other side of that, KCUMB is a pretty well established DO school with great first time passing rates on COMLEX... but KCUMB is 8 hours away from me 🙁

Congrats! Although I'm slightly biased, I don't think you should let the established vs. non-established thing get to you so much. Figure out what's most important to you in a school and go where that is best provided for you. The choice between multiple a schools is a blessing and you have two wonderful ones to choose from 🙂 congrats again!! 👍

Seriously though, it would be interesting to hear from someone who has interviewed more recently and knows the most current interview:accepted numbers.

THANKS! I liked the overall feel at Marian better and I like the area and facilities much more too... This is going to be really difficult to decide

I know I'm pretty late to the game here, but I just received the initial "we received your application, you may receive a secondary, please send us your letters" email. Has anyone been rejected from receiving a secondary? I have already sent in my letters through Interfolio and will work on the secondary questions before I even receive the secondary just so I can get it in as soon as possible if I receive the secondary. After reading all of your comments, you all seem to feel really good about this school so I'd love to see it for myself.

I believe that earlier in the cycle some people were being rejected pre secondary. The consensus was then, that it was due to a <3.2 sGPA. However, if I recall correctly, there may have been a few people who did receive secondaries with a sGPA <3.2. I think most of them had science graduate work though. Skim through the earlier pages of this thread and see if you come across this topic. I am fairly sure I am remembering this accurately-ish.



***On a completely unrelated note, I remember Dr. Evans speaking about working to establish some residency programs in IN. Does anyone know specific areas of medicine MU-COM is trying to establish programs in? Are they all in primary care or are they looking to establish programs in other areas of medicine as well (surgery,EM, etc)? December 14th is rapidly approaching so just trying to get all of the details out on the table.

I think someone asked this before, but I don't remember specifics. It might be best to directly contact them for that information. I do not remember them mentioning the specific specialties for the residencies themselves.

Ya, I figured I can contact them directly, but if it has been asked before maybe someone already has an answer for it...Just trying to throw some feelers out there and see if anyone knows. As you are aware, MU-COM posts here too so I figure they will see this question.

They do have cutoff points, such as 3.0 GPA, so Im sure plenty of people have been denied a secondary. 🙂

I loved the little addition about Indy given to us today 🙂 Might not be as exciting of an update for in-staters, but as someone who has only been to Indy on my interview weekend, it was nice to see all the stuff the city has to offer. I especially liked the part about the outdoor things! Super excited!!! :banana:
