Marian University (MU-COM) Discussion Thread 2015 - 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm still waiting on my letters to be verified, but I hope to hear from Marian soon. Very excited about this school!

I got an email saying that they received my letters on July 15th. It's been about 3 weeks now and they still appear incomplete on my portal. Should this be cause for concern?

I would call them. I talked to Bryan Moody from admissions who was really helpful with it and mine became marked as complete as soon as I submitted.

Exact same situation here. Yesterday @MU COM mentioned they were a little bit behind and plan to get caught up this week. So i'm trying to be patient... 🙂

I never received a complete email. However, when I go under the communications tab on the status page, I see the complete email lol.

A few pages back, @MU COM addressed this. That means your letters are acceptable, but you haven't been assigned a reviewer yet.

Please allow at least 10 more business days before calling about letters. We are working diligently, with additional staff and overtime, to catch up.
Complete emails will also go out today.
The interview decisions have been released.

I saw your post, opened my email, saw that I had a new message, it has "admissions" in the email address......and it's an email from Rosalind Franklin telling me that my application is incomplete but not mentioning what I'm missing (and they don't have a portal). :bored:

Congrats! I'm totally jealous. This school seems ideal. Do you mind sharing when you were complete/received complete email?
Thanks! I was marked complete 7/7 and got the email on 7/29

That seems pretty frustrating... I'm sure you're hear back too!

Didn't hear anything back today. Such a bummer, my secondary was marked complete 7/26 and nothing new on communication status since then. I'm an international student, not sure if that plays a factor. Wish that hey told us whether our application was reviewed and if we would receive ii or not.

Anyone know if MU-COM sent rejections for applications they reviewed but didn't give ii? Or do they just hold off rejections till a later date? Not sure if not getting an ii was b/c app wasn't reviewed or b/c it wasn't successful.

To those who have received II's, what days are your interviews scheduled for? Did you get a specific day or did you get several options to choose from?

That's the same timeline as mine. Congrats for the II 🙂
You mind sharing your stats? Also, are you an international applicant?

Why did you guys choose to practice in Indiana or not practice there? Really stuck on that question! you think they reject people if they choose not to practice in Indiana?

MUCOM made it sound like very few people would get invites today. I wouldn't worry about it especially since you were in the later group. More invites will trickle through in the next few weeks.

There were options. Sept. 11 or 12 and Oct. 2 or 3 with different time slots for each.

I have submitted my secondary on 7/4. It has been more than a month and my letters of recommendation are still marked as incomplete. It seems strange that some people here are marked as received and completed within 2-3 weeks after submission.

Is yesterday the only batch of interviews that will be going out until 8/24?

I didn't complete the secondary until 7/17, but received complete on 7/29 also. Hoping that they just didn't get to mine yet.

@MU COM How long does it typically take for someone to receive a secondary after the primary is verified?

Interview invites will start in 2 days, but the file review process is taking longer this year. So, they will be slow at first ... we will pick up steam on August 24th when vacations are over.

EDIT: Invites start 8/7. From 8/8 to 8/23, few, if any, will be sent due to the director's vacation. We will resume on 8/24.

This is the answer to your question

@MU COM It has been 2 weeks since I submitted the supplementary application yet I have not received an email for having received my LORs. I have submitted them with my AACOMAS ID through the AACOMAS service a month ago. AACOMAS told me that they have sent all my applications to MUCOM. Do emails go out only after reviewing LORs? Thanks for your continued presence here!

@NextJamesAndrews12 Did you receive a complete email or you just checked the portal? I submitted their secondary the same day as you and haven't received a complete email.

@MU COM Even if my school has a pre-medical advisor, am I still allowed to use two science professors for my letters of recommendation?

Did anyone's letters via the AACOMAS system get added to their portal? Still waiting for mine to be uploaded :/

@MU COM Do all lectures require attendance? Do a lot of students commute from surrounding areas? A Marian student told me he commutes from Carmel, IN but I don't see how this would be feasible! Any replies from Marian students or other applicants would be appreciated also.
Attendance is not mandatory, although highly recommended. As a first year, I would say about 70-80% of us are living at the graduate housing at the Overlook.

I'm really not sure either. Don't think anyone would say "No, I don't want to practice in Indiana, but please let me into your school." lol
What are we to do then? I mean I want to be honest with the school. I don't have any attachments to the state, but would be happy to practice there, for no particular reason other than I'd be practicing medicine....

Is that auto rejection?

It's my personal opinion that they won't reject you if you're being honest. The people who interview you will probably know what your intents are and will decide accordingly. With that said, I would withhold judgement on where you will actually end up practicing. I had no idea on what living in Indy was like until I moved here. It has been a great experience so far and as of right now, I can see myself staying and practicing here. Always keep an open mind as you are preparing to change your life completely.

So, anybody else notice that the school stopped updating the forum when the director went on vacation. Is that who were talking to in here? Food for thought..

I know that 3rd year just started, but could a current student comment on the clinical affiliations? Are they near the school or do people have to move around a lot? Are any of them level 1 trauma hospitals? What do you think so far? etc.

Perhaps the rest of the employees are doing what I do when my boss is gone, sitting around playing angry birds and just generally not doing a damn thing. But MUCOMs posts have always been fairly sporadic. I'm sure they are working on other stuff.

You make a strong point. I'm actually very impressed and appreciative of their participation here at all. It's a good sign.
