New York COM (NYIT-COM) Discussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Do you have any idea what order they are reviewing apps in...I was complete at the beginning of August and it seems like they are sending out interview invites for people that were complete at the beginning of this month

No idea. They probably already looked at your application, and they have decided to not extend an interview invite at this time. There's nothing else you can really do but to wait and remain optimistic. There are a myriad of factors that make certain applicants attractive for certain schools.

You would have been fine had you simply said you have no idea and left it at that.

To the original question, just be patient. There is very little information on these forums or elsewhere that speak to the way admin committees review applications. Just be patient and don't read too much into what you see here.

I wonder if it has to do with IS status. I don't think its only based on stats. I noticed that some people with lower stats, who were complete after me, had received ii but they were IS.

Complete Aug 28; 30 MCAT; 3.57 UGPA, 3.67 SGPA; IS. No II yet.

Nice stats. Now I'm super confused about how they determine who gets an II and in what order they review applications.

agreed. they get such a high volume of applicants, they probably haven't gotten to reviewing the first few batches....

or at least that is what i keep telling myself. blahhhhh

I am honestly thinking they are not reviewing in order. I believe their pile of paper is in no particular order AND I don't think they are meeting often, because they seem to be giving out interviews very sparingly this month.

I've been trying to PM you all day man, lol but I keep getting an error. It's weird

What type of picture do they want? I haven't had to do this before.

Should I just put on the top half of a suit and tie and sit infront of a plain background? Do I have to have a professional picture taken.

Mine was at home wearing a dress shirt against a light wall, professional pictures are definitely not necessary.

This is for people who submitted the supplemental way back in June/July but did they change it? I'm pretty sure before they had a question to list any osteopathic physicians in your family but now it says specifically from NYIT. Anyone see this?

Forgot to post this last week. Got a II on 9/26! I submitted my secondary on 9/7.

Interview invitations started today NOT in September like some imposters have posted. Spoke directly with an Adcom. Please be wary about everything you read on SDN.

This is false. I have an ii which I received on 9/18. Sorry to burst your bubble

I will believe an ADCOM over any anonymous user on a random website. No bubble bursted. 👍

I don't blame you 😛 but Im just letting you know ii started early September 🙂 I had to call to schedule mine which i did on 9/18, the day i got the email, and they said the earliest available date wasn't until November because interviews had been going on since early September.

I just called now and they also said no invites were sent in September.......

Idk who you guys are speaking to on the phone but I have an ii 🙂 not sure what else to say. I saw a few others in this thread also with ii so I know I'm not the only one. I promise Im not making this up hehe

Hey I understand guys. Short of showing you the email I cant do much else to convince you 🙂 good luck to all in the process

"Imposters," I thought that was hilarious...

Here's a list of when the first invites were first sent out for the past few years...( via sdn).
2013 - "Early September." (via Mr.Wonderful)
2012 - 10/11
2011 - 10/6
2010 - 10/13
2009 - 09/30

So... this year admissions decides to sent out invites a month earlier than previous years?!?!

I trust admissions... no offense.

My point exactly.

Can you take a snapshot of the email and show us? Just hide any personal identifiable information.

I attached it to this.. put a pic in a word doc because I didnt know how else to do it 😛
touché Mr. Wonderful, touché... I apologize for doubting you. You are completely right and I am completely wrong.

Congrats on the invite!

I dont understand why an ADCOM gave me erroneous information.

No problem guys I genuinely want to be helpful because I know how annoying and stressful this whole process is. Also, I hope nobody interpetted my posting as bragging, because that was not my intention at all. Just wanted to set the record straight so there is no confusion 🙂

First of all, Congrats to everyone who has received an ii. This process is extremely stressful and this forum should serve as a support system above all else.

For those of you who received interview invites today, when were you complete? I think all of us want to know where we stand (assuming that they are reviewing applicants in order)

is it too late to apply here? im submitting my primary today...
in state, 3.7 gpa 3.3 sgpa 27 mcat, good extra curriculars and letters of recommendation shadowed multiple d.os

Does this school have a portal or anything to review what they have received?

I got a "secondary application complete" from them Sept 9th and havent gotten anything since.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

This may be a stupid question (or possibly already answered elsewhere), but when they ask for letters of recommendation from a science faculty, would psychology be considered an acceptable science or does it restrict only to chemistry, biology, physics? Thank you.

Depends who you ask. For many schools, they wont regard Psychology as a true science

How long did it take to receive a complete email? I submitted my secondary in August and my letters of recommendation should have been received by mid-September.

The website says that they are not able to offer individual status checks; does that mean if we call they won't tell us if all materials have been received?

I received an email that said "Your supplemental application is now complete" about 4 days after I submitted my secondary. I never received an email that said they received my LOR. I called them to ask if they received them and they said that they only download the LOR if you are invited for an interview.

Thanks, I'll definitely contact them now. I wonder if it had to do with the fact that I submitted my secondary before receiving the secondary invite.

Edit - never mind, I didn't realize you can check your status online. I never got a complete email from them but my application is marked as complete.

I actually hadn't completed my NYIT secondary until two weeks ago when someone from their office called me and inquired about whether or not I would complete my file by submitting it. I was pretty impressed they would call me individually, so I completed it right away, and by the next day, they extended me an interview invite. So now I'm interviewing on November 20th, during the afternoon block. Anyone else interviewing then?

I wasn't initially as interested in this school as I am now, as I've been working with an osteopathic physician in the ED I work at that was a graduate and spoke highly of it, and is a competent physician in her own right. I'll definitely be going to the interview and seeing how it turns out. Fingers crossed!

Congrats on the interview..do you mind sharing your stats?

Sure, I don't know where to find my official AACOMAS GPA, but I was somewhere right around a 3.5, and I got a 28 on the MCAT, with a 10 in the verbal and biological sciences sections each, and an 8 in the physical sciences section (my achilles heel).

For what it's worth, I had a pretty strong upward trend in my GPA, I started off with 2.5-3.0's my freshman and beginning of sophomore year, but by my senior year I had over 2 years of 3.7-4.0's.
