University of Pittsburg, Email 06/22 for July 15 interview (in person)
Yep. The latter. I was about to apply that upcoming cycle again. I had put that last cycle out my mind 😂That's great and encouraging! Thank you for that.
Did they interview you 4 month before you started or they already interviewed you a year before but you haven't heard back?
Yes from all 3Hi guys.
Did anyone get the application confirmation email from UPenn, Alabama and Buffalo?
When did you pay and submit your supplemental application?I never got an email confirmation separately saying that my application was complete for Penn -- do you know if the email was a fee received email or a separate email saying that the app was under review?
It might be a busy period and they process the applications in the order in which they received them. But I would call them to double check.
This is what the email said:I never got an email confirmation separately saying that my application was complete for Penn -- do you know if the email was a fee received email or a separate email saying that the app was under review?
May 13 and received it May 20Do you know when you applied via PASS and received the checklist email?
Were you able pay the application fee? Their website says to pay thru PASS but I can’t seem to find anything.University of Minnesota - 6/25 phone call; interview July 7th and 8th.
What are you guys doing for interview prep? Haven't gotten one yet but want to be prepared.
My best advice is to be yourself. I interviewed with 5 different programs this cycle, and they were all very different vibes. Most program directors are trying to select a class that will work well together and with the current residents, and you really have no idea what they're like until you meet them. It honestly feels like a first date. If you've gotten interviews, then you're qualified, it's more of a matter of where you will fit to succeed. Also, it doesn't hurt to read up on the program's research - it gives you a better idea of what they may ask you. Most of my interviews ended up talking about pets, things to do in the city, and just joking around. Others were tough, pointed, and stiff questions - but those programs also felt that way. I copied most of the following list from post #53, but have added in some other questions I was asked.
Why endodontics? (this was asked by almost everyone)
Tell me about your experiences since dental school
Tell me a little about yourself?
Why did you want to be a dentist?
What differentiates you from other candidates? Why should we select you over the others? Be careful not to throw others under the bus since you really don't know them well enough to make that assessment.
What would make you a good resident?
3 strengths
3 weakness
Give me an example of teamwork?
How will you contribute to our program? What can you bring to the table?
Do you handle criticism well?
Tell me about a recent failure and how you handled it?
Are you a member of the AAE?
Why do you want to be board certified?
What is your greatest success? Failure?
What is your least/favorite aspect of treatment?
What makes you think you will succeed in residency?
How is your time management?
What kind of endo will you like (NSRCT, SRCT, retreat)?
Are you involved in a study club?
What endodontic systems do you use?
What kind of cases do you do?
Any last minute comments?
What are some qualities that you have that would set you apart as a good resident?
Tell us about a time you had a disagreement with someone.
Why do you want to do Endo?
What are your strengths and weaknesses?
If you could go to dinner with anyone in history who would it be and why?
What’s your biggest accomplishment?
How will you take care of the underserved community?
Are you active in organized dentistry?
Tell us about your research experience.

What questions do you have about the program?
No one asked for a portfolio of cases. It honestly would have seemed pretty pretentious to bring one, but maybe some programs do that.

How many invitations they sent in for the 2 spots?Interview offer via email from from UMKC today(second wave I think)- Interview date- 7/13
Here is what I received from UTHSCA via email on 5/27:
"UTHSCSA Endodontic Department has received your completed application and application fee. We will be in contact with you after July 16, 2022. If you have any questions please contact me at [email protected]. Due to the large number of applications, please do not phone me.
Please note: we have 1 interview day, Friday, Aug. 5, 2022, at UT Health San Antonio (if covid restriction change, interviews will change to virtual)."
I also never heard anything from LSU- but they certainly collected my application fee.
Oh, sorry- I didn't apply there. Seemed to be a place that heavily favored their own dental students. Thanks! Figured as much about LSU. For clarification, by UTHSC I meant Univ. of Tennessee Health Science Center
I didn’t wear them to my interviews, I thought it would be a bit too much. However, I wanted to wear them simply because I had paid so much for them to just wear once a year for uniform inspection.@Big Time Hoosier @FutureDent020
What do you guys think about wearing dress blues to civilian interviews? good/bad idea?
How many of us Navy people are on here 😝I didn’t wear them to my interviews, I thought it would be a bit too much. However, I wanted to wear them simply because I had paid so much for them to just wear once a year for uniform inspection.
Big Hoss
Unnecessary. It’s a civilian event. They also know you are in the military so you don’t need to flaunt it.@Big Time Hoosier @FutureDent020

No. This isn’t dental school and a good way to be annoying to PDs. Every single applicant has interest in the programs they paid to apply for. It would only hurt you. It sucks to not have interviews, but welcome to the game.Is it ever appropriate to send programs interest emails if no interview was received?
Let me clarify this statement. If you don't get in this cycle, I highly encourage you to contact each school to see where you can improve for the next year.No. This isn’t dental school and a good way to be annoying to PDs. I tend to believe it doesn't hurt to ask- but I would also say don't be shocked if you never hear anything back from them. I think I asked 2 or 3 programs after I did not get in last cycle what I could do to improve my application, and I never received a reply or even acknowledgement from any of them. It very well could vary from one program to another. But some programs will let you schedule a visit, and I did find talking to current residents to be extremely helpful.Let me clarify this statement. If you don't get in this cycle, I highly encourage you to contact each school to see where you can improve for the next year.
