Goodluck to those who have upcoming interviews!

This is the time of year where this thread is typically the busiest.

Keep in mind, most programs will have their spots filled by early to mid August. For those still waiting, don't give up hope. A lot of programs have yet to send out invites.

Anyone know if schools give out offers on the same day? How many days do you have to respond?

Again, depends on the program.

Trend is right after the interviews are completed. Usually about 48 hours for commitment. Sometimes 24 hours.

Has anyone heard anything from Iowa or Oregon? I know in previous years they seem to be schools that interview earlier.

Hi, for UCSF, Did you guys get the confirmation email after accepting the interview invitation and filling out the link?
in their email they had mentioned expect a confirmation email with more instructions after accepting the invitation

I would call them to make sure they received it.

How would you write an email to a Program Director reaffirming your willingness to be part of their Program?

Do universities care a lot about gpa and class rank? Or they care about experience and what the applicant has done since graduation?

From my experience, GPA and class rank weigh more than practice experience.

For example:

If you've been practicing for 5 years and you have a 3.4 and a top 30% rank, compared to someone practicing for 2 years with a 3.7 and 20% class rank, program directors are likely admitting the latter candidate (all else equal)

This is consistent in most programs. Obviously other factors are at play, its not strictly a numbers game

I have a question to those who are applying for the second or third time and didn't get interviews this cycle:
What did you do different since last year to improve your CV and make your application more attractive?

Will the schools that already sent out the interview invitation send out more emails?

I have the same question...
What are they looking for?
Especially when you already have all requirements and cant do anything about your gpa.. then what should you do more to get accepted?

I heard from a Faculty that Harvard do not accept International Students. This particular Faculty, also told me to not consider applying for Tufts because they wouldn't even consider my application. Does anyone know anything about this?

Particularly for Endo or every specialty? I have known some internationals from other department tho.

Particularly for Endo and I agree with you. I have a colleague who completed Pediatrics there. I don't know if the policy changed, because I met an Endodontist graduated in Harvard who did not complete the Dental training in US. It's very frustrating obtaining this kind of information from someone who knows how frustrating this whole process is.

It is very frustrating, I am not sure about all endo programs, but sometimes I feel that no one is accepting internationals! I feel that it is just a waste of time, money and effort tbh.
But we should not lose hope tho..

No! Never lose hope!
That's why I believe this kind of interaction is so important because we are able to help each other providing support during this stressful time. We all need to keep moving forward!

Make connections. Go to AAE
Yes, I heard that and this move can absolutely make the difference. Not only AAE annual meetings but, also, visiting programs that allows you to do so. I had a chance to visit 2 programs this year. Unfortunately one of them did not call me for an interview and the other one hasn't sent invitations yet. We are grains of send in this beach and we need to make ourselves noticeable.

Some programs (UCLA) have a one (or two) year "Advanced Clinical Training" in Endodontics programs for international applicatants. It is not a residency, and you have to pay, but if all else fails and you really are passionate, I would look into it.

Another international here 👀

Does anyone knows why programs send interview invitations way before the last day of application is finished? Does it means those still working with their paper work and well qualified will never be considered?
Endo is rolling, you need to have the application done WAY in advance of the deadline (as close to when PASS opens as possible, so in May). Most programs do not wait until the application deadline to start reviewing and sending interviews.
Some program websites even say "it is in your best interest to submit as early as possible in advance of the deadline"
So yes, you could be highly qualified but will not be considered if you submit later in the cycle.

This was addressed a few weeks back. Deadlines mean nothing. See below

I want to elaborate on this, and it's a trend I see from multiple schools. If you're applying close to or at the deadline, you're wasting your time. Deadlines mean nothing.

The goal is to get that application completed as soon as possible. You can see here from this thread that we are in mid June and programs have already sent out interview invitations. Most schools have their seats FILLED by early august, with majority of interviews taking place during July.

I have the same question...

Honestly Network. This is a political game you have to play

Hi Endo people, I am a first time applicant to the endodontics programs. I feel a little bummed because it feels that I am not going to even get any interviews this year, 7/15 programs that I applied already gave out interviews and it feels that my profile is not enough, 3.6 GPA but low class rank, just one year of private practice experience and not much endo involvement in the AAE. Any words of hope or advice for the next cycle?
Relax it’s still early. It’s not over until it’s over

I feel exactly the same. It is not my first time applying, and never received any invitation.
But I won't lose hope. There is still 20+ programs haven't sent invitations yet so let's hope. Also, some people will cancel therefore some programs will be sending more invitations.. I hope we all get in this year!
In case we haven't, I would advise you to consider taking endo courses, show them that you are active improving yourself since you can do nothing about your gpa and class rank. I am not sure but it might help... and as people said above you could try connections, if you know someone, ask the programs to visit, meet residents, specially for the programs that you really want.

What if I dont know anyone? 😓
Am I out of that game already?
Start with shadowing multiple endodontists, go to AAE and meet some program directors and endodontists, Follow ppl on social media and just talk to them about their cases. There are so many ways to put your name out there and make yourself noticeable. I agree that connections would help if you don't have anything to stand out.
Also show commitment, like take courses, do research, if international do a PPID or an ACT experience, and build up a good portfolio, and do stellar on ADAT. it's a combination of efforts that gets you in and most importantly qualifies you to be a good endodontist. After all endo is all about second chances 🙂
