University of North Texas (UNTHSC/TCOM) Discussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Interviewed Sept 17. Was my first interview too. The day ended with being told by my interviewer "well you didn't say anything to hurt your chances" I didn't know what to think of that at the time but obviously it was fine.

Congrats on the acceptances! I can't wait to meet all of you next year!

Congratulations to all those accepted already! Does anyone know if it was just one batch sent out this morning or if it continues throughout the day? Thank you.

I think it's just one.

The next one will be at the beginning of December. Last year it was December 5.

Congratulations all! Any OOS applicants accepted?

Going to be interviewing on the 20th. Current Medsci and from what I've heard from our class, there hasn't been many invites going around unless people are just staying quiet.

Your class will get a massive amount of invites for December...I think our class had something like 45 or 50 people interview in one week

That being said, MedScis do like to not share school details with one another, unless on SDN or between friends.

Yeah I know what you mean. I just hope that I do well in my interview. I really don't want to be waitlisted till May. They told us that Medsci's don't follow the normal match.

Interviewed back in sept and still no response.....it still says under review..
OOS. Am I done?

Does anyone know if they send out pre match offers on a weekly basis or how often they send them out. TCOM is my first choice and I have not received one yet but I see that some people on this thread have received offers already.

Based on previous years threads, it seems they go out in batches. The first date being Nov 15 and the next sometime in early December. I'm waiting on mine too!

Interviewed here today and had a wonderful experience. I felt the interviews were largely conversational with most questions directed towards community service involvement, leadership experience, and understanding of osteopathic philosophy. I had a few questions regarding the direction of healthcare. The medical education & training building (MET) has impressive state of the art facilities. Only bummer for whole experience? We were told that it was highly unlikely any of us would pre-match (due to the timing of the interview) so most of us in today's group won't hear back until Feb!

I agree; TCOM is fantastic. I hope you will hear good news in February! Remember, the majority of the class isn't filled in pre-match so your group still has a great shot. 🙂

Thanks, me too!
Have you gotten your good news yet? 😀

Not yet! I'm hoping for some in December.

I'm really excited to see what computers/tablets they pick out for class 2018. Does anyone know if they come loaded with medical software or apps?

I'm pretty sure it'll be an ipad mini like this year. I think the first years got some type of xps but I could be wrong and from what I've heard, the software is loaded.

The 1st years did get an XPS and an iPad. The XPS has Windows 8 loaded on it, and contains the software necessary for their in-class tests. If anyone wants more information on the programs and such, let me know, and I will contact a student that can give more insight into the matter!

An ipad mini with retina and the new Acer aspire s7 would be amazing if anyone has an in with the IT department 😀

I was wondering if TCOM accepted any Canadians.
I am really interested in this school, and I've been complete since early Oct but not a word yet..

I wouldn't give up just yet. However, being complete by early Oct is quite late for Texas schools. Especially since Oct 1 is the deadline for TMDSAS. So don't be too crushed if you never hear back; it probably isn't your stats that's the problem, but the timing. In addition, as you probably know, Texas schools only accept 10% OOS. That means you are in the running for one of around 20 spots.

Sorry. I hope you hear good news, but your chances aren't high.

Thanks! Gah! I should have applied much earlier. My bad for thinking that I could submit my application by their deadline.

They are brand new out of the box so no apps are preloaded. It's up to you to pick and choose what you want on there.

Checked my portal today and it says "your application has been reviewed". I guess I'll get an official rejection in the mail soon...

Good luck to the rest of you guys.

Oh no! I'm so sorry. I hope you hear good news elsewhere.

Are you sure that means a rejection?

I'm still under "Your application is complete" status. Been on that for a few months now.

Any ideas people?

From what I've been reading on here, it means a rejection.

As for your question, when you log into the portal (on the same page as your status) there should be another status on top. Look at that.

Referring to:

"Your application has been received. Please check your "to do" list for any outstanding items??"

So am I to assume if this switches to your application has been reviewed that means a rejection?

Thanks!

Has anyone that interviewed on nov 20 get an under review status change? How long does it usually take for your status to update post interview?

Mine still says app under review. Interviewed on Nov 20th

They said they usually meet around two weeks after an interview to decide. Hopefully can hear something before the match but they stressed how most will hear on the match day

Do they usually let those that are rejected know before the new year? It would suck to be under review all the way onto match day only to find out that you were rejected -_-

mine just switched to "under review", interviewed on the 20th. this is going to be a difficult wait!

Some find out before match. For example, Gandalf from this year already found out a few weeks ago. There were also some people from previous threads who found out a week before match.
