I've met two people who said they were rejected pre-interview. No email or anything, just a change on the status page.
 
And by pre-interview you mean before interview season is over? If so, I guess that bodes a little bit more favorably for those still in screening.

Yeah, I did too. Was very nice of them. None of my other schools wished me well. Bastards!

Has anyone ever called in to get their status changed from "In progress" to "Committee Screening", and then called in to check their status and found out that nothing was going on?

I'm just worried that there is no movement (good or bad) on my application!
 
can anyone recommend a hotel that has a shuttle to/from the airport? thanks!
 
Hmmm, I didn't receive any cheerful happy holidays email, but I got an interview. Why is Duke playing hot and cold with me?
 
Anyone still have COMMITTEE SCREENING at this point? I think I'm going to call if no one else has this...
 
I'm still in screening as well. I called earlier this week and learned that my application has only been screened by one adcom member (of an eventual two) so far. My application has been in screening for about 2 and a half months.

So I recieved a interview invite for late january with a pretty subpar mcat score (31) but a high GPA 3.8+ Is there any chance of acceptance, as I have not heard of many individuals with a 31 MCAT getting into duke.. Honestly, im suprised they even picked me to interview, they must really care about those essays.

I know of at least 2 people who got in with a 7 on one section of the MCAT. It happens...

I have an invite for late jan as well. 30 mcat and 3.6 gpa. You are dashing my hopes.

that was not my intention. Its just that I dont want to get too excited about any one school. Im not saying there is no one that has gotten in with <32, its just that I havent heard of anyone. I guess all we can do now is just concentrate on acing the interview 🙂 good luck to you
 
Just got an email saying Duke hasn't received my LORs. I could have sworn my Duke account said they had, but I can't remember my login information (super - they let you retrieve your password, but not your login handle).

They absolutely would not interview you if you didn't have a shot. As diosa said, there are at least 2 people who had a score of 7 on one section in our class alone. I don't know how frequently that happens in particular, but Duke does go beyond one's scores. Which is great because I probably wouldn't be here if they didn't 🙂

Don't sweat it. I've seen the stats. You'll be fine. You just have to impress with your interview a little bit more than the next guy. Know what you can get out of going to Duke and why you'd want to be there. Be able to really say why you want to do this medicine thing. Take the time to really truly answer every question and demonstrate a passion for this opportunity. You'll be fine if you take that approach.

Anyone interviewing 1/7 or 1/8 want to split a hotel room? I haven't heard back from the host program (holidays and all) and reserved two nights at Brookwood Inn (1/6-1/7). There's an extra bed and I'd like to save some money, so if anyone is interested in splitting it with me PM me.
 
Interview invite this evening!!!! I've been under committee screening for the past 3-3.5 months! I'm sooo excited :-D

I ended up choosing 2/20, the last day they're interviewing (I hope this is ok...), because that's all I could accommodate, apart from Friday the 13th, which I didn't want to sign up for 🙄 If anyone is curious, most TWR are still open in Feb. January is all taken 🙁 All M and F in Feb are taken except for 13th, 16th, and 20th...

I have to say, I am another applicant with a 31 with a 9 in one of my sections, so I am pleasantly surprised but... omg Duke! 😍:xf:😍
 
Also, any good ways to get to Durham? 🙁 I am in VA without a car that I can drive with... Plane ticket costs to RDU are outrageous considering the distance I'm traveling ($250 and above - which is funny; the cheapest one has a 1-stop at NY. So essentially, VA-->NY-->NC), and the 9-hour/overnight Greyhound bus rides for $150 don't sound like a good option either. There are no amtraks... :-/

Have you tried southwest?, or kayak.com? I travel frequently between VA and RDU for next to nothing. Would carpool but your interview is on a different day. Good luck!

argh, southwest doesnt even give me the option of going to Raleigh/Durham from VA and kayak.com also only gave me flights $250+... 😱
 
just had my interview, i love this place, hope they let me in! for all of those getting ready to interview, just relax and be your self -- just like they say!

If you decide to send in a letter of intent, be sure to include that.

"If accepted to Duke, I will withdraw all my remaining applications and sell most of my vital organs. This includes, but is not limited to, one kidney, pancreas, left lung, and transverse colon. Not my liver however, as if I am accepted I'll be needing that one to get me through the subsequent celebration."

You always want to start small. Bump it up to two kidneys and the right lung (more lobes) if you're waitlisted.

I realize now that it depends heavily on where in VA you're traveling from. I'm near DC. I'd say rent a car...cheapest option and best way to get around Durham anyway.
 
Interview invites still coming...just received one! Was complete right near the deadline.
 
Also got an interview from Duke last week! -- after over three months of what seemed like perpetual committee screening. I'll be there that last Friday (2/20) as well.

Is there anyone out there who interviewed/is interviewing and whose institution doesn't support Virtual Evals? The hpo at my school only uses Interfolio. Can I get my school to make paper copies of the letters in my Interfolio file and send them in, or should I contact all my recommendation writers and have them send in the letters individually? The correct answer is probably call Duke and ask, but I just wanted to see if anyone else had dealt with this.

Yay! I may see you since I'll be there 2/20 as well 🙂 🙂

My school also asked us to use Interfolio. I mailed out paper copies from Interfolio since that's what I read on the Duke website under the LoR tab (on the PAS), but I sent it 10 days ago and it's still not marked as "received." I guess... I should just wait longer?? Anyone else?

Nice! SDNer's are going to be reppin' strong on 2/20... we're already up to at least three in number (frostedflakes, luckyducky87, justapremed). I know the urge is going to strike to do something really silly during interview morning introductions to make my SDN identity known... perhaps I better resist.

luckyducky, I'm going to call Duke next Monday when I have the chance to drop by my hpo. I'll let you know what I find out if no one here has given us an answer.

Haha, I wonder how we can let our SDN-ID be known without being outwardly spoken about it... 😛

Do let me know what Duke says about LoR's though!!
 
After you are done with the interviews you can ask the very nice administrative assistant in the admin office to check your file to see that all your recs are in there.
