hey guys, for those of u with interviews, is anyone considering the virtual option?? it would save me flight fare as well as 2 days... but not sure how legit this option is... thanks.

Just wondering what everyone's status on this was... does it still say "Committee Screening" for most of you guys?

Yea. I called the office today and they told me I was still being screened. 🙁

Shemarty, you crazy. 🙂

Interviews start next weeeeeek! :::excited:::

You doing any interviewing this year?

Guys, try your best not to stress if you haven't received an invite yet. There are TONS more left to give out.

Dude, go do some work. Seriously.

Haha I worked 8:15 - 10:30. Too bad I have class tonight 🙁
I love third year. Except, of course, for that little test for which I need to study a hell of a lot more.

Good luck to all the applicants. Let us know if we can answer any questions at all. 🙂

How long does it take duke to give a decision post-secondary? I've been complete for 25 days now.

Someone mentioned earlier that there is student hosting for interviewees. Has anyone stayed with one? And if so, where can I find the list?

To the poster above, check out the interview thread to see how long it took people to get invites/rejections post-secondary. It took them only 6 days for me but it seems like it can vary significantly so don't worry.

I've been complete for exactly two months now, and I'm still in committee screening. I called and they said that the second person(with in a dual screening system) most likely has not finished going over my application. Waiting is hard, Duke is my top choice. 😍

I stayed with a student host and I really enjoyed getting to meet some students outside of class. The email that Duke sends after you confirm an interview date includes the instructions for scheduling a student host. There is no list, just tell them what night you are staying and the hosting committee will find a student for you.

I was wondering...since Duke is non-rolling, it doesn't matter if I choose to interview in February right? I'm out of the country right now and I don't want to come back till I get a few more interviews so does anyone know how flexible Duke is about this "self-scheduling" thing. I don't want them to decline my interview invite because I waited three month to schedule an interview...

I would call and ask, the admissions office is really nice.

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed your student host experience. I'm definitely going to stay with a student if there is one available to take me in that night.

If the system won't let you schedule your interview for Feb, then definitely call and ask. There is no disadvantage to interviewing in Feb.

Good god, I still haven't done this thing. And it wouldn't be a big deal but...Duke is almost right down the street. I should really really apply...but I can use almost nothing from my secondaries from 20+ other schools on these stupid questions!!!

ARGH

Just do it! I did the beast of a secondary in pieces over a 2 week span. Then I just had that humble experience essay left to go. I forced myself to go to the library and not leave until it was done.

still havent done this secondary, i think i will this weekend. just how non rolling are these guys lol?

almost 2 months later: anybody's status page still showing Committee Screening? I'm just afraid that there's a bug since I had to manually call the woman to change my status.

My profile had the screening message for three months, but I got an interview this week. 🙂 I'd say it's probably not a bug, but if you're concerned, you can always call!

I've been complete for over 2 months as well and am still in committee screening... I figure it has to do with my long essays.

has anyone on this thread already been to interview?

I have been. I was being reviewed for a looong time before finally getting the interview invite. I haven't scheduled the interview yet though.

hi all....question for anybody who has already scheduled an interview.

after picking your date and confirming it was the one you wanted, do you remember if you got an additional screen containing information about housing options, etc? (when i did this i got an "error" message but when i refreshed, my date was scheduled. so, i'm unsure if i missed a screen of info)

i'd like to know before i call so i don't seem over-neurotic🙄

ALSO, how long did it take for a confirmation email?

If you are looking for a student host, you should email [email protected] and give them your interview date. It took ~1 week for them to get back to me with a student host.

I received an interview confirmation within 1-2 days of scheduling my interview date.

Hi,

I'm new to SDN but I've been following your posts about Duke for awhile. I was wondering if any of you know the acceptance stats for Duke? How many people do they interview, how many people do they extend acceptance offers to, and how many people will they matriculate in 2009?
I've looked all over the place for this information, so if anyone knows I'd be forever grateful if you let me know.
Thanks

Hmm unfortunately, I don't know the exact numbers. But if you go to your local library/Barnes and Noble/Borders, there is a book written by US News about medical schools and I believe it has the # (or %) interviewed, accepted, and matriculated for every school. If you don't get your answer here, try that out. The MSAR is another good reference, but as of a few years ago it didn't contain # accepted.

Post-interview acceptance rate is pretty low, only about 25%. They really don't accept that many people, cause apparently not too many people pick somewhere else to go to.

They said they interview about 700 people, last year they made about 170 offers, on May 15th they had 90 deposits, and they made 18 offers from the waiting list to fill a class of 100.

I've been trying to get a student host, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. Right now I have reservations at the Brookwood Inn for Tuesday night, but would love to split the costs with someone else? Let me know!

Good luck to everyone who's waiting on Duke! I can't wait to see the school for myself!

Hi again,

Thanks for the information regarding the acceptance rates. I have two more questions about Duke that I can't find answers for. I'm curious to know what the process is for whom they choose. Do they give everyone a ranking based on all of the materials/interviews/applications submitted or are there other factors involved? I ask because I heard that Duke likes to have lots of undergraduate institutions represented. Does anyone have a source on where their last class came from? I'm curious if undergraduate institution could have an effect (i.e. They only want one student from my university so I'm really just competing against my classmates and no one else.)

If anyone has any input that'd be great.
Thanks

Yes, after your interview you are basically assigned a certain number of points based on your total application and then at the end of the season people are ranked based on the number of points they have. I have never heard anything about people getting accepted or not getting accepted based on their undergraduate school. Duke certainly likes to diversify it's class and therefore the class is made up of a lot of people from both state and private schools, but I'm pretty sure there is no set number of people who are allowed to be accepted from any one particular school; I think it probably varies based on the quality of the applicants from each school.

Has anyone heard anything from Duke in a while? Any rejections/invites? I checked my status (hiding between my fingers), but I'm still in committee screening.

Got an interview invite on Wednesday, only about two minutes after I called them to ask whether there was any issue with my application. It took 2 1/2 mos for me to finish being screened.

For those of you who interviewed and stayed at the Brookwood Inn, how far is the admissions office from there? I can't find the address of where we're supposed to meet in the morning in the emails, just the room number and building name.

It's about a 15-20 minute walk, though is kind of confusing. I'd be happy to give directions if anyone wants.

Edit: There may be a shuttle that goes from the Brookwood Inn to Duke South (the very large building that the admissions office is in), which would mean a 5 minute ride and then a 5-7 min walk. I don't know if one exists, however.

The brookwood inn provided a map that got me right there, I feel like I would put the walk closer to ten minutes.

Duke = absolutely amazing.

I would do anything to go here.... it's going to be a brutal 4-5 months.

if you haven't still submitted because of the beast secondary, i still suggest you do. i turned it in on sunday (11/9) and got an interview invite that saturday(11/15). quickquickquick
