Not much. You mean in terms of getting an interview or in their curriculum?

In terms of their curriculum. I have a big interest in research that I want to cultivate, but also a (rapidly) growing interest in global health and international medicine, I hope I would be able to explore both those interests if given the chance to attend.

For those of you who interviewed, was it closed file?
and which airport is the closest one to the Uni? (international student here)

Erm.... I believe they have a "research track" for those interested in research, but I'm not sure it's the best research school if that's something you want. Great for global health and international medicine, though!

As far as airports, Reagan is the closest (DCA) but if you are flying internationally, I believe you have to fly into Dulles, which is about 45 min. away.

For those who were accepted/waitlisted.......what did your status page change to right before?

How long has it generally taken for everyone's status to change from "All materials have been received..." to "Under review"? I've been complete with the "All materials received status" for over a month and am starting to get antsy.

a little over 2 weeks

Tell the washington post that... Here's a quote from their article:

"GWU, one of the nation's oldest medical schools, has about 700 students and a good reputation for quality care. Yesterday, Vice President Cheney was treated at George Washington University Hospital for an abnormal heartbeat."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/10/15/AR2008101503120.html

 shocking.

the media isn't bound by patient-physician confidentiality contracts... if they get wind of something and publish it, that is completely different from someone involved in a [famous person]'s care disclosing that information

Has anyone had any luck with getting a decision regarding an interview from GW after letting them know that you will be in the area for another interview? I just got invited to interview at Georgetown and would like to try to schedule my interview at GW around the same time (if they offer me one), but I wanted to find out if anyone else has done this. Thanks.

Any other email acceptances today? I got:

mind me asking when your interview was?

I was accepted today as well. Interview was on 10/3.

thanks. i interviewed on 9/25. but my status still says that they are reviewing my file and apparently for people who have been rejected their status changes to something about a decision being mailed to you or whatever. but i don't know why they wouldn't have gotten to me yet. and i definitely felt as though my interviews went very well.😕

that's just one week earlier... i really wouldn't take that as a rejection/wl at this point because the file reviews may not be as linear/consecutive as you might think.

my online status hasn't changed either. it's still the post-interview "review"

hey thanks for the response. i appreciate anything that helps put my mind at ease! or at least "at ease" as it can be at this point...

To those that got accepted today, were you waitlisted first or straight acceptance?

what did your status say online after your interview? at first mine was something like: thank you for interviewing! and now it says "Your application is currently on hold." i've had that message for a few weeks now...

it has been 5 weeks since i interviewed also...

Got an interview invite yesterday for January 23...woooo!!!!😀

mine still has the "thank you for interviewing message" and it has been that way since my interview

I was complete way back in early July. I know some schools that are offering december invites. I'm pretty sure most November interviews are all booked up. So for the most part it probably is January and February dates.

damn. so if i dont hear back in the next couple of weeks, it will be over. because most schools finish interviewing in february...

I'm in the same boat. Interviewed on 9/30 and still have the "thanks for interviewing" message. So stressful!

Maybe, maybe not. Just because they took so long to offer me an invite doesn't mean they will take as long to offer you one. There are also a lot of people who might turn them down for late interviews because they are already accepted somewhere else. Who's to say...

My status online has said the following ever since a few days after interview and hasn't changed despite receiving an acceptance email earlier today:

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and interview with us! The Committee on Admissions carefully and judiciously reviews files, which does take some time. We humbly appreciate your patience during this process and will be in contact with you once a decision is made.

ok thanks for letting me know. i guess i'll have to wait and see if the message is just generic or a bad sign.

but congrats on your acceptance today!!!

My status hasn't changed since interview either and I haven't gotten an email yet.

Hola everyone. I got an invite on Halloween to interview on December 2. I'm so stoked!!!!!!!!!!!!! My status changed yesterday to the following:

"Your application is complete and under review by the committee. Correspondence concerning the status of your application will be emailed to you shortly."

And then I received the email invite in the afternoon the following day. I was complete recently (mid-October I'd say). I wasn't expecting this quick of a turnaround. Best of luck to all and keep your heads up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Paz,
Alex

Do we have any idea how much the interview is weighed in the final decision at all?

is anyone afraid of the probationary period as well??? any decisions notifications lately??

GW's probationary status should be one of your last considerations when evaluating the school. The only way this could impact you is if GW, within the next 2 years, failed to meet the criteria outlined by the accreditation board. However, there are three things to consider at this point:

1. No school has ever lost its accreditation after being put on probation.
2. Major steps are underway to resolve the issues outlined by the accreditation board. (If you interview at GW, you can't miss the remodeling of student study spaces; one of the major concerns outlined in the probation brief)
3. GW hospital serves some of the most influential individuals in the United States (white house, congress, etc.) Considering this point, the likelihood of GW losing its accreditation becomes even less.

I recommend that anyone concerned about the probationary status either review the issues on GW's website or contact the accreditation board for further information.

Still waiting for news....I'm not worried about the probationary status....lol...I don't know why it's not a big concern for me

i'm still hoping for an interview too (complete in mid-July) but i have no reservations about GWU probationary status. you shouldn't either. it's an established program, the situation will take care of itself. they won't let a school with so much history, resources, funding invested in it etc to just go splat. :luck: to us for interview invites soon!

school loves to make you wait, huh? Still "under review"🙁

you should probably call them if you have been under review for a while. after like 8 weeks i called and was told that i was on hold, but my status page still says "under review" just to let you know

My application was complete (as in 'under review' status) on September 23 and I still have not gotten an interview invite (or rejection). Did anyone elses take this long?

Same for me, I have been complete since July 31 and I am still "under review". I think I am going to call them today.

For those who called did this help at all, did you get an answer over the phone ie. hold, rejection, or interview invite?

call them! i got told i was put on hold over the phone when i called in october. and i was complete in july too

what are the chances of getting in post interview? I am just so curious.
I am not a stellar interviewer, so I am relying a lot on my stats. For those who were interviewed, were there a lot of "discuss health-care, world issues, etc" type questions?

ps could not find post interview chances ANYWHERE. what gives?

So, I'm interviewing on Thursday and I was wondering how easy it was to find Ross Hall. How far is it from Foggy Bottom and how do you get there? I have zero sense of direction and get lost just about everywhere, including in buildings, so detailed directions to the med library would be appreciated 🙂 Thanks guys!

If you take the Metro to the Foggy Bottom/GWU stop, you're basically there. Once you go up the escalators, the GWU Hospital will be to your left. However, take a right and then another immediate right into the GWU courtyard area (there are benches and trees and the like). After you walk a short bit, take a left and walk directly between the buildings...you'll hit Ross Hall; it's kind of like this U-shaped area that you'd be walking into with Ross Hall being the bottom of the "U." (If you walk directly through the courtyard area without taking the left and hit another bona fide street, you've gone too far. But, there's a GWU map on that street right there, so if you're confused, you can reference that.)

All in all it should take you a minute to get from the top of the Metro to Ross Hall.

Hopefully, that was detailed enough--but not confusing. If I could draw a map on here, I would.

Good luck!

At GW, how are you notified of acceptances, waitlist, etc? snail mail or e-mail? Also, is anyone flat out rejected after interviewing or are they put on the waitlist? Thanks!

For those who called and were told their app was on hold pre-interview...did they explicitly say you were on hold? I've been under review for about a month and when I called they said my file was complete and interviews are given by e-mail so to check my e-mail regularly. Any thoughts?

They will explicitly tell you that you are on hold... so I'm guessing you aren't on hold yet.

they didn't tell me i was on hold, they said that my file had been reviewed but no final decision was made... and to check my email for an interview invite ... i just took that to be a hold

Has anyone tried an "in the area" email to GW with success? I have a Georgetown interview in December...

Has anyone tried an "in the area" email to GW with success? I have a Georgetown interview in December...

I sent an in the area email and this was the response I got:

"Your application is complete and under review. The review process can take some time.
We will note your visit to the DC area in your application however, each year, many files are reviewed and placed on hold for re-review at a later date. We do interview from September through March.

Thank you for your interest in The George Washington University Medical School."

Anyone else get a different response after an in the area email?
