I had that message, too. Actually for a while (~1.5 months). I'm not too familiar with GWU's procedures, but I eventually got an interview for October. Keep your heads up. I was in your position, too. I was a bit doubtful that I would get an interview from GWU, considering its popularity and sheer volume of applicants. Just be positive; besides, there's not much that you can do now. The ball is out of your court and now you're just waiting for the volley. I know you will be fine 🙂

mine definitely changed because i noted it when someone earlier said they might be losing their mind and mine change this week to include the word currently. i think it's just to make us feel better.

hard to say what that means though, because mine never changed from "under review" until I called them and found out I was on hold...to be reviewed again in a few months...after the call I noticed a day later my status was changed to "currently" under review...take that for what its worth.
D'oh! I called them last week, they told me they didn't get to my file yet.

hey congrats on ur interview! I'm curious...did they ever tell you if you were on hold or not? They never really told me what it means to be on hold at GWU.

To be honest, I never called GWU to ask if I was ever on hold. I received an email one morning saying that I'm invited for an interview. I know this doesn't help you much, but keep thinking positively.

Hm.. I interview 9/19 and my status changed today from something about "Thank You and Congratulations for interviewing" to "Your Application is Currently on Hold."
Must mean waitlist.. big bummer. But just FYI, if you interviewed already, you might want to check your status. Maybe someone's will be good news.

I would think that all post-interview applicants would get a hold status at least until 15-OCT. Why do you think this means waitlist?

Up until today it said something to the effect of "Thank you for interviewing, we are currently reviewing your application, which may take 6-8 weeks. You will be notified when a decision is made." I wouldn't think they would change it to "your Application is on hold" unless it was a decision, and they probably just can't send notice until 10/15. I was expecting it anyway, my interview didn't go too well.
Anyone else who has already interviewed have a status page change?

Did anyone else get the "thank you for interviewing, we hope you had a nice time" e-mail from GW? I interviewed on the 29th and just got it today - totally freaked me out, the subject line was Thank you for interviewing, I was sure I was looking at the first e-mail rejection!

I had my interview on the 16th. My status page still says ""Thank you so much for taking the time to visit The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and interview with us! The Committee on Admissions carefully and judiciously reviews files, which does take some time. We humbly appreciate your patience during this process and will be in contact with you once a decision is made."
This makes me think that not everyone gets the Hold status, especially because my application should have been reviewed either before or at the same time as the people from 9/19.

In Canada, the medical faculty provides a list of students willing to share their place.
I'm not sure how it works in the US, but I didn't get a listing with my interview email.

Most schools do.. But not GW! Seems to be that staying in northern VA and taking the metro in is the best deal.
Any hotels or motels in particular? 😕

They do make deals... but the deals were not that great. You can check the website link they sent, but most were still $200+ ... I stayed at the Doubletree Crystal City (I think it was around $100) and it was REALLY nice, had 5 restaurants in it, a shuttle to the airport and to the Pentagon City Mall/ Metro every 15 minutes. I took the shuttle in the AM (about a 5 minute ride, but they said it was only a 5 block walk if you wanted to walk) and then the metro ride is only a few stops (about a 10 minute ride) and when you come up the steps of the metro stop, you are smack dab in front of GWUMC. Some people mentioned earlier if you stayed in Rosslyn, VA, it is only one metro stop from GW/ Foggy Bottom. Good luck!

You're not going to find such deals in DC unless the place is pretty much a dump.

There are some hotels over in Rosslyn which is in Arlington, VA that run about that price... They are right next to the Rosslyn metro, which is one stop from Foggy Bottom... So you pay less and in all likelihood you'd end up living over here so you'd get an idea of what it is like. If you'd like my opinion on a couple of the hotels over here in Arlington PM me and I can let you know! I am in the SMP at Georgetown, but I also just spent an afternoon doing a tour at George Washington so if you have any questions we had an info session, Q and A and extensive tour so I might be able to answer some of those as well.
Also if you have any questions about the area, airports, transportation I should be able to help out there as well. Good luck!
Yes, Rosslyn you can probably find a hotel around that price, also probably in Crystal City, but not within walking distance from GW. I could be mistaken about the pricing, but I've lived in DC my entire life and from my experience with relatives and friends visiting, its really hard to find hotels in the immediate vicinity of GW for $100.

hmm...how do you guys know you're on hold?
when I called 2 weeks ago, the lady said I was on hold but my status page never changed from "complete and currently under review." I called today and the lady told me "you are complete and currently under review."
where did the last hold info come from? I'm confused...
also, does anyone know where to send an update letter? the GW admissions address or is there an email address?

I'm pretty sure they never change the status even if you are on hold. You'll probably have the 'complete and under review' till they either invite or reject you.

I was given that date too...but thats right around Thanksgiving so I am trying to see if I can make more accommodating flight plans first.
I sent them my new MCAT scores. That was it!
They emailed me back early on Monday morning and then a couple hours after that first email, they sent me another one with an invitation to interview.
I am planning on saving my Letters of Interest for schools that put me on their waitlist...

If anyone is curious, I was complete 9/29 and interestingly, my status just changed this morning from "we received your secondary and letters..." to "complete and under review." Got an interview invite today shortly after that. I'm not an URM if you're wondering. I am really surprised they got to my application so fast considering they receive over 11,000 applications. Goodluck to everybody!!

according to US News & World Report (2nd Ed.):
7,778 applications
1083 interviews
358 acceptances
So--just getting an interview is a big accomplishment...especially this year as they received around 12,000 applications so far!
I am guessing they will still extend around 1,000 interviews again.
And probably keep the odds at 1/3 for gaining admission post-interview.

I was complete 9/28 and I still have "We have received all the necessary credentials including letters of recommendation in order for your application to be reviewed....." I imagine it would change once I've actually been reviewed?

I don't know if this requires its own thread, but a VERY reliable source tells me that George Washington may be going on probation (2 year period to change things or lose accreditation). I can provide more details for those interested tomorrow.

Yep. Up to this morning, my status page said exactly what yours says now: "We have received all the necessary credentials including letters of recommendation in order for your application to be reviewed....." It then changed sometime in the morning to app complete and under review. Then, before I knew it, I got an interview a few hours later. I think GWU works like Penn State in that your status only changes when someone is actually reviewing your app
