I'm in as well for the class of 2013. I'm from an SDA college.

xrev, congrats! I'm not sure about that... don't think so though.

thomasyorke, congratulations!!

zootso, yes.. I am.

Congratulations to all that have been accepted so far. I could really use a prayer for getting in. I interviewed back on the 23rd of November. I'm an Adventist and thought I had a pretty good interview, but I've not yet heard anything. I know at least one person from my group of interviewees has already been accepted, so that makes me really nervous that I've been wait-listed or put in the "No thank you" pile.

However, events in my life have shown me that God absolutely wants me in the medical profession, so I am not giving up hope that I will get a letter in the mail any day now. I hope to be toughing it out in classes come this fall with the rest of you folks!

Either way, best of luck to each of you. Kick some butt at med school and do great things in the name of Jesus Christ!

FYI...There are people on this forum who did get into LLUSOM, but who did not receive a call after the first adcom meeting following their interview date including some that did not find out until late spring.

Yes I am waiting as well... but my grandmother always said, "No news is good news." You just have to exercise and stretch those faith muscles (Matthew 7:7; John 14:13). I know it is hard not to be anxious sometimes; it makes me a little edgy to know that some have already gotten accepted as well, and I was told I was in the first group to interview for 2009. But just remember, everything in God's time. And no matter where Providence leads, it is definately where you will be the happiest in the end.

Don't sweat it guys. My wife didn't find out until April, and I have a classmate that didn't get the call until 1 week into school (that is a special case though). Prayer and patience, prayer and patience.

During the last interview day, someone asked me what the chapel services were like at LLU. Below is a video of what a normal chapel praise and worship is like. I'm mostly excited about this video because I took it on my jailbroken iphone for the first time, lol.

They usually have students from different schools (medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, etc.) sing and play for each chapel. It took a little while for me to get used to this style of music (i.e.-not gospel) but I'm cool with it now.

Hey Doctajay, thought I d say hi. Turns out we have a little connection. Your wife is my sister's lab partner. 🙂 Maybe see you around on campus soon!

Calls are going out today... stay near your phones and good luck! 🙂

its a small world huh? 🙂. Hope to see you here soon, although by then I'll be a 3rd year and not on the basic science section too.

I took another iphone vid of the worship. Check it out:

Last year I was in the first big interview session (the one around thanksgiving) and I didn't get accepted till April. I sent an LOI in March, then Lenoa called and asked if I wanted to interview again. I got accepted 2 weeks after that second interview session.

So don't freak out! You still have so much time to get accepted.

Does Loma Linda send out letters to those they are no longer considering?

Hi I am a new member of SDN but I just got an interview with Loma Linda. Are there any current medical students on this thread that wouldn't mind helping me out with the process? thanks!!!

Hey does anyone know when Loma Linda starts their 2009-2010 academic year?

Hey all,

This thread has been very informative. Thank you for the posts.
My dream and I believe my calling is to become a missionary doctor. I want to go back to my home country and serve the sick and the poor, and I think LLU will equip me to become a missionary doctor. I have an interview sceduled on March 3rd. I am not from california, and i'm non-SDA (however a strong christian), and I'm wondering if they accept candidates from late interviews in march.

Hey Guys!

Congrats to everyone who has been accepted. I'm an MS4 from LLU and wanted to offer help to anyone who has questions/comments/concerns about the school/location etc. I know it can be stressful moving across the country with little to no knowledge about a place so feel free to message me!

Enjoy the next few months and get plenty of R and R! 😛

Thanks for agreeing to take questions, CaliforniaBound.

I am an OOS/non-SDA/non-Christian applicant. I have no qualms about being in a Christian environment (went to a Catholic HS) and like that SDA promotes vegetarianism!

My primary interest in LLU comes from the ground-breaking GIS (geographic information systems) work they are doing in medicine. I am a GIS specialist in my current job and did a double major in Geography as an undergrad so I find that even though I am not SDA or Christian, I would make a good fit for LLU.

Problem is I have heard NOTHING from LLU other than "we'll get back to you by April 30th". I have sent updates of research publications and web-maps that I have been working on as a volunteer (all GIS/Health centric) and still nothing.

I have considered emailing some higher ups involved in the GIS/Medicine programs (Dean Dyjack, Prof. Wiafe) expressing my interest, but not sure if this will make much of a difference... I know that I filled my application with how I love the GIS program there and want to integrate it with my medical education etc... but am a bit miffed as to why I haven't heard a word. Maybe those in admissions aren't up to speed/connect the dots with their GIS program and my work?

Should I write a letter of interest to Loma Linda re-emphasizing these things? Would it be helpful to email faculty about their ongoing research?

Any advice would be helpful - Thanks!

They're more interested in graduating compassionate physicians than geoscientists. Perhaps you should emphasize that instead.

It is possible, it is definitely not unheard of. Applicants that exactly match what LLU is looking for always stand a chance no matter how late. As to the decision of what they are looking for... now that's a different question. 🙄

I thought I'd let applicants know that 50 confirm spots have been taken (maybe one or two more). Confirmed meaning, students have already been accepted and paid their deposits. LLU usually takes in about 170 students but with the new building coming up, they are trying to increase the intake. So don't give up hope, there's still a lot of slots and time!!

I don't think it would hurt to email some professors involved in the reasearch. I would emphasize that you are just as passionate about being a physician as you are a scientist. I wouldn't worry yet, they are still interviewing and it's fairly early in the acceptance process. I know someone in my class who got in a week after school started! Albeit rare, they do accept people quite late in the year! Good luck!

Are you pre or post interview?

pre-interview... no interview invite yet... :scared:
and thanks for the response, I will send an email (Cc'ing admissions) expressing my interest in their research... hope it helps!

And one can be a compassionate physician-scientist, using knowledge to help others 😀

Do you know how many interviewees are accepted post-interview? I know the matriculated class size is ~170, but surely they must accept more than 170 to make sure the class is full by fall right?

Sorry, I'm not sure of that information. But every time the adcom meets so far, they've accepted about 20-25 students. They do also have to take into account the students that have to stay back a year to redo their first year. But you're probably right about sending out more acceptances in situation that students withdraw. That's why there are still acceptances as late as May or June and some cases July.

For quite a few schools, don't they typically accept 2x the size of their matriculated class? It seems weird to me that LLU's class size is ~170, but they interview ~400 people (AMSAR). So could it mean that the majority of interviewees get accepted...or does LLU accept a smaller amount since most people will likely attend? Perhaps a current LLU student can offer some insight on this?

i began participating in some new application-relevant activities after submitting my primary, and there was no place on llu's secondary to update activities. is there a way i should go about updating them? is it acceptable/wise to just shoot them a short email letting them know what i'm doing? i know many schools encourage updates, but just wondering if anybody has advice for llu.

llu strikes me as a more formal/letter type institution...just one person's opinion though. Whatever you send, take it seriously, it will almost certainly end up in your file.

seems like i recall the acceptance rate for interviewees to be ~60% or so last year. Can't remember exactly, but regardless, getting an interview is a good sign.

Ok I finished my secondary a long time ago probably in early november. But I havent received anything yet and when I check my application it says they will decide on my application by april 30, so I dont know what that means

Honestly, what are the chances of me getting an interview that late?

The April 30 thing is an automated update. I have that too... everyone does. Don't sweat it 😉

Hey does anyone know if the admissions office at Loma Linda ever calls to give out rejections? I ask because I had a message on my cell phone from Dr. Stephen Nyirady that said he needed to talk to me. It's frustrating because I was at the gym for one hour when he called, the only time I went without my phone on me today!

I tried calling the Office of Admissions back, but there is no answer (I called at 2:06 pm). Anyone know if they're off for the day or something? Man I just want to know if I've finally been accepted!

I can't imagine he was calling you for any reason other than an acceptance. I know he made acceptance calls today, as I got the call. I wouldn't sweat it. I think LLU shuts down early on Friday, so you may have to wait until next week to talk to them.

First acceptance or no?

Is LLU your top choice? Do you think you'll end up there? Hey we might be classmates...

This will be my first acceptance if that's why he was calling! It also happens to be my top choice, so it's frustrating to have to keep my celebration all bottled up until Tuesday!

I got a call from him today (Dr Steve Nurati) for an acceptance! 🙂

I'd wager that's an acceptance call because I also got his call at around 1PM today for an acceptance. If you weren't accepted, I doubt Dr. Nurati would spend the time to tell you the bad news.

Dr. Nyirady only gives courtesy calls for acceptances. So strongboy I would say welcome to LLU!! He'd rather tell you in person then leave it on your voicemail. It's happened in past years that people call back the next week to get the good news! Oh, just in case you can't get him on Tuesday, it's because they're running interviews.

Congrats to everyone else that got the call too!!

Thanks guys....Hands, are you from Cali?

Just wondering why I haven't heard back yet... 🙁 I interviewed in Dec, with a 4.0 and a 32MCAT....everything seemed to go well....

yup yup.

Definitely write a formal letter. When I wrote my LOI (which is a little different from what you're writing) I addressed it to Lenoa Edwards. Then the first paragraph was about thanking them for an opportunity to interview, my impression of the school, why I wanted to attend. My second paragraph was an update of all the stuff I had done since applying. The last paragraph was a not so subtle pleading for acceptance 😛. It must have worked since I got a call for a re-interview a couple of weeks later! I finished the letter with my name and AMCAS number.

The whole thing was one page, single spaced. Keep things short and to the point. Play up your strengths, but try not to brag. And have lots of people read it over before you send it in! You want it to be polished, because it essentially is like another mini-application. And it most definitely goes into your file.

Good luck, and if you have any questions (you or any of the other applicants), feel free to PM me.
