Okay so I have kind of a crazy question here. I interviewed at Davis toward the end of January, but just to make sure I had everything in order, I decided to browse around Davis' website. While doing so I found the following: "Premedical requirements must be completed by January of the year of desired entry."
My inital reaction was WHAT THE...? because I had never noticed it before and because I am still taking Calculus - specifically FOR UC Davis because they do not accept AP credit. The crappy part of it all was that I got a 5 on the Calculus BC exam, and so passed out of two quarters of it back at UCLA undergrad. The class doesn't end until June so naturally I was freaking out.
So called Ed and was pretty disappointed not only with what I heard, but also his general attitude about the whole thing. Basically he said UC Davis does not offer "conditional acceptances" and that they would "keep bypassing my application until that final grade was available." I explained to him as kindly as possible that I was taking this class essentially for nominal grade because my AP credit demonstrates competence in this area. I also had him if Davis could, in good faith, just accept that I would complete the course with a good grade. He flatly replied "no."
Overall I'm just kinda of put off by this whole thing because 1) no other school I know of abides by this policy, 2) they went through the trouble of interviewing me even though my AMCAS clearly showed that I hadn't retaken calculus by January, and 3) what school would overlook an otherwse qualified applicant on the basis of a technicality like that?
Has anyone else heard/seen this? Has anyone been accepted who is still taking pre-requisite classes? I would greatly appreciate any insight on this matter! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
