so i havent read through all the pages of this thread yet but does anyone know if any interviewees from February and March have been accepted yet? Or has it just been december and january? Thanks.

Based on people posting on this thread, only people from December, January, and February have been accepted so far. Nobody has been placed on the waitlist or rejected, again, based on this thread and MDapplicants.

Got my rejection email from Davis today. I really wish I could have interviewed there... Good luck to all those waiting on post-interview decisions!

I also got the rejection email (finally!) and I must say that looking at how this is going, I'm really glad that I didn't interview at Davis. I'm waiting to hear back from UCSD and it will only be 10 days between interview and decision, and I'm having a hard enough time handling that!
Hope you all hear soon.

Pre-interview rejection today:

"Dear Applicant:
Thank you for applying to the UC Davis School of Medicine.

After careful consideration, we are unable to offer you a position for the class entering in July 2009. We received applications from a highly competitive pool of nearly 5,000 students like yourself. Wiith only 105 seats available, the Admissions Committee faced an extremely difficult task.

Best wishes for your future endeavors."

At least the waiting's over. Good luck to all you post-interview people.

Great way to spell check Davis, is it so hard to check the spelling "Wiith" before sending some b.s. rejection to us

I guess the post-interview rejections/waitlists will come this coming week! It's actually somewhat relieving knowing that Davis can't delay decisions any longer than the next few weeks...or could they? 😳

I keep wavering on my decision to call Ed back; I don't know if I have learned helplessness at this point or if I might call anyway just to feel like I have some control in the situation. I've had a fever the majority of this week and here's to hoping it will break along with some good news from Davis...
Thank you Schoolsucks for the encouraging shout-out to all of us still waiting for news. It does lift my spirits that good news is being given still; with no news of rejections/WL, I'm almost waiting for the other shoe to drop. But hope remains!!
My sympathies to those receiving post-secondary rejections (at least there's no more waiting, right?) and congrats to those accepted!!

why do u think they are coming this week? Has Ed said anything? Did i miss something?

No, I haven't heard anything, but it's a hunch that I have. Seeing that post-secondary rejections have started and that someone mentioned Ed said that applicants were being reviewed chronologically now, it seems like things will come to a head very soon.

Another part of me just doesn't believe that Davis would be inhumane enough to delay decisions any longer, but that's just me

My thought is that Davis is now reviewing applications chronologically because it has caught up on making decisions for all the early interviews, but hey, I could continue this guessing game forever.

Did Ed call and leave a message for you, or are you just thinking about calling him again? It's sort of odd that those post-secondary rejections came out yesterday. I wonder if they were automated to be delivered on the weekend? Hopefully this week the December people will get some news!

Oh no, he didn't call me-- I wish he had!! I meant I was just thinking of calling him again. I agree about the rejections; I thought weekends were a stress-free zone for checking e-mail!
My fingers are getting sore from being crossed so long, but here's to this week! :xf::xf::xf:

Hey guys, someone named "Ihatescience" just posted in the accepted thread the following

Hey all,

Congrats on getting accepted! I'm currently a first year. Never really post on here much, but I wanted to let those waiting to hear back post-interview that currently 60 applicants have been accepted (and they usually shoot for accepting around 150 or so to fill a class of 100)...

So honestly, it appears that not knowing anything doesnt mean they simply haven't told you the bad news. I was in the same, depressed boat as all of you Friday morning before I got the phone call that I was sure was not going to come. but it looks like only 60/150 phone calls have gone out😀😀😀

Goodluck guys, heres hoping you all get the call this week :luck::xf::luck::xf::luck::xf:

Thanks for the info, and congratulations on your acceptance!

150 seems really low, though...unless that number doesn't include people accepted from the waitlist. Hmm...I don't know what to think. Unless Davis has one of the highest retention rates of all the med schools.

60 acceptances also means that Davis missed the AAMC "full class" deadline. I guess it doesn't mean all that much if the enforcement is minimized...

I remember at interview they said that they accept 150 first, and then after that they'll accept ~50% of all the interviews to fill their class. As for the AAMC, I don't think it's a deadline, it's more of a recommendation from AAMC to the schools. Good luck to all of us!

the buck fifty doesnt include waitlist, its the outright acceptances. Thats why I think you, and all the others waiting, still got a great shot at an acceptances. I understand everyones pesimstic behavior though, but I think this shoudl really raise spirits! Pulling for you guys!!!!

Ed told me on the 16th of March in an email that 52 offers of acceptance had already been made at that point. I think that the 60 number that the med student posted is outdated.

probably true. so the class is probably a little above 50% full by now.

That's still a pretty low number and leaves room for optimism.

Wow...such an active thread for a weekend! We are obsessed!

Thank you so much, schoolsucks!! Honestly, my spirits are very much raised! I had NO idea how many had been accepted at this point, so hearing that it's at around 50% makes me more hopeful. 😳

:xf: Heres to hoping that we get some good news from the admissions office today! 17 weeks is a long time to wait, but I won't hold it against you UC Davis if you decide to accept me! Call me any time!

According to Dr. Henry Sondheimer of the AAMC (I emailed him @ [email protected]), UC Davis DID fulfill the requirement of offering a number acceptances equal to the expected number of students in the first year entering class. So, this means that at least 105 acceptances have been offered as of March 30th.

Wow Davydude, that was creative. Way to go straight to the man!

Assuming they have accepted 105, there are still many more seats to go. No on should tell you not to sweat it considering your situation with other schools, but whatever it's worth, I'm pulling for you!

Impressive! Thanks for posting this, although it does sadden me. At least not all spots are taken... hopefully. I'm right with CreativeScience; I am pulling for you (and me 😳)! There's hope for us yet!

Thanks Davydude7 for the info; however, this new piece of information is kind of depressing =/

Sorry, I didn't mean to bum everyone out. I just thought that I should share the updated information. I am just trying to keep in mind that Ed said that they will be offering somewhere between 200-250 acceptances (including from the waitlist).

Hopefully since Davis is done interviewing they will be able to speed up the adcom process and get those December decisions out!

I feel even more sad/angry now that my interview in December was cancelled and I was not notified of =/ what can you do sigh =/. Hopefully we'll all get good news!

It appears as though today is another no-phone-calls-day -- at least among us bloggers. I have a feeling we have weeks more of this. 🙁

Given the fact that there has been at least 105 acceptances and Ed told me on Thursday that Feb interviews would not hear back until the end of May and the fact that nobody has posted anything about being on a wait list, I think that there will not be an official "wait list" since this would be after the May 15 decision day. By saying that Feb interviews won't hear back until after this date essentially means that we are on the "wait list" don't you think? I also have a feeling that they went through all the applications in random order, accepted a full class and are now re reviewing things by interview date to sort out the last few acceptances and order on the wait list.

I don't know if this is of any consolation, but a friend of mine interviewed at Davis last year in March and got in, in June. He was never put on the waitlist, he was outright accepted in June. I'm sure this is not the norm, but it could happen. However, for those of us who interviewed early, there really isn't any consolation.

Oh, theories, theories, theories. We are totally jumping to conclusions here. All I know is that Davis is notorious for late decisions, and that this waiting period seems to throw us into panic and anxiety when we actually have no idea what is really going on. I know I'm certainly anxious and have considered many scenarios like this. But we have to remember that it's this sort of forced logic that the admissions officials and pre-med advisors snicker at before they tell you "don't waste your time on SDN." Not trying to be rude RSwim, just trying to keep it real. Stay positive -- I'm pulling for you too!

Always fun to throw out some theories...at least it gets the blogs going 🙂

17 weeks! When will the madness end. :scared:

Probably not until orientation for UC Davis starts. Take a brief look at this thread from two years ago on Davis:

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=355414&page=18

You'll find that many people were similarly frustrated by Davis's admissions; there are people who even interviewed way back in October who didn't hear back anything at all and were strung along until June (a whopping 8 months! 😱). I wouldn't be surprised if this year went the same way, and I'm really not looking forward to being waitlisted or rejected after so much waiting and anticipation. :lame:

At least, from the suffering of those in the past, we won't get our hopes up too much on expecting anything until July 😛

Hey all,

I hate to be the bringer of bad news, but I emailed the admissions office to see if I could get an update.

This is the response I got:

"The Admissions Cmte. is working on notifying applicants who interviewed during the month of December and January of their status all at the same time. Our office has already notified applicants offered admission to date."

I think this pretty much means that those December and January interviewees who haven't heard back yet have either been waitlisted or rejected.

I hope this brings a semblance of closure to you all (at least I can go into the "getting over it" phase now).

Thank you for the update. I think that is pretty much what we all expected, but nobody else has been successful at getting the admissions office to admit to it. I would not be suprised if they send out a batch email this Saturday like they did last Saturday to those that were rejected post secondary.

Thanks, Bluengreen for the update. I agree, this is probably what we all figured out by now, I just wish the Admissions Committee had been more forthright about their plans. I can understand if they have technical difficulties with their new online system, but at the same time, if this has been going on for the past couple of years as well - it's hard to chalk this up to just technical difficulties.

Seems as if they should just be honest about what they're doing instead of saying "one more month, one more month, one more month.." when they should have just said "June." It's also ironic because during the interviews they said that we'd be done at 5 to cover for any scheduling mishaps though they expected us to be done by 1-2 pm. Can't they do the same for admissions?

It doesn't make any sense how they said as soon as there was an update on your status, they would tell you - the whole no news is good news thing. And now they're saying they're working on notifying all of us Dec/Jan interviewees at once.

Okay, obviously I'm just frustrated with the long wait and all of the contradictions that the Admissions Committee has offered. Sorry for the rant but I just had to get that out. More waiting.. :scared:

Agreed! I wish I could just know one way or the other... but I guess my options are WL/reject now.. not as fun of a wait.

I was originally logging onto sdn to let you all know that I called Ed today to check my status and he said that they had already reviewed my file and that they hadn't yet come to a final decision. He said that I would receive an update next week. I'm not sure how to feel about this... I'm glad if I wasn't outright rejected, but it's possible Ed was just trying to avoid giving a rejection over the phone. Who knows.

Sad day. There's still the possibility of waitlist, and many people do get into the class via waitlist. Is it too late to continue being hopeful??

I am just trying to write UC Davis off so I don't have to think about it. It's hard to be hopeful for so long.

True. It's harder to be hopeful and then let down rather than expect the worst and possibly receive a waitlist and, later, acceptance. For whatever it's worth, which may be much less with the current news, I'm still pulling for a waitlist for us, Davydude, and other fellow sdners.

I just spoke with Ed. He told me that those who interviewed in December and January have been notified if accepted. So at this point I am waiting for a waitlist or rejection e-mail. He said those e-mail should be out next week -- which probably means next month.

Good luck to everyone else.

🙁. I don't need another CA waitlist nor do I need a rejection. I need an acceptance. I just need one more acceptance so I have options.

How did u get him to actually check your file? Whenever I call him, he just tells me that its currently being reviewed.

i can totally relate. i am already on 4 CA waitlists with no acceptance... i almost want a rejection because that would allow me to drop a classics class i am taking to fulfill davis' english requirement lol. sigh..

yeah i'm already on 3 CA waitlists.

When I called for an update he asked for my AMCAS ID and then put me on hold. When he came back he said that my file has been reviewed but no final decisions have yet been made... so not much more info because it still seems to be in a review process of sorts.

Ya, we are in the same boat mzchristee, except that I wish I had other CA school waitlists to ease the pain somewhat. Davis has been my top choice from the get-go so all I ask is that I get a top-of-the-list waitlist... *sigh* Otherwise it is off to the east coast.

davis makes me sad, but for those of you who are on multiple CA waitlist, I have a good feeling that you will get into at least one of them!

Meh. Davis was my top choice, but life goes on, and we'll all get over it and reach different but new heights in our lives. Right now is grieving time, though 🙁

Cheer up y'all! There's plenty of life outside of Davis (actually, the city of Sacramento doesn't have much life, but you know what I mean 😉)

That's funny, because I called him today and he told me the same thing. Except that decisions would be made by the end of this month..

Patience, patience, patience. Hopefully, by this time next year, we'll all be happily situated in med school and laughing at our current neuroticness..
