how long did it take you guys to get your secondary invites after you submitted your amcas stuff? i applied really late in the cycle (submitted amcas mid-sept...i know....)but i still haven't heard anything and i'm ready to give up hope =/ do they let you know that they're not going to invite you to fill out a secondary?

Yes, they will let you know via snail mail. I submitted the primary in early July, got the secondary request in early Sept.

Geez, you could hear a pin drop in this thread now. I know for me, I'm a lot less anxious because they flat out told me that it would be 6-8 weeks, so now I have nothing to talk about. Same for the rest of you?

Anyone who interviewed this past month hear back yet?

Yup! Things in general have slowed down for me now that I'm complete everywhere and interviews have slowed to a trickle, so I'm not nearly as obsessive about the process. Which is a very GOOD thing. 🙂

I just hope I get an interview!!!

No way! Since they said I should know within 2 weeks its not really enough time to relax and know that its going to be a while, so I'm just more high strung than ever!! I swear I jump every time I get a text....

Hey everyone,

first of all good luck to everyone here, this is insane!

So if you were interviewed before the first Ex Com meeting and have not heard back yet (11/1/08) what does that mean?

in the MSAR UW SOM lists the first day they notify as 11/1/08. But, students at the interview day said you usually hear back the day following the Ex Com meeting....

ideas?

When I called, they said that they will mail/email notifications by the end of this week. They have the decisions, but they wouldn't tell me over the phone. They said they were willing to tell us over the phone if we called Monday (11/3). I'm just going to call and ask on Monday if I don't get anything from them this weekend.

hey Meetchy,

thanks for the info...

So if you didn't get an e-mail from them last week... means you are rej? I know they send email acceptances and e-mail "under consideration" notifications....

maybe im reading too much into this.

I honestly have no idea. Guess we can just call on Monday to find out for sure.

Has anyone from Idaho received an interview invite yet?

Good idea.

Although it is always akward when rejected over the phone as I remember back from high school...... Good luck.

so just to clarify... has anyone heard back from UW who was reviewed in the last excom meeting (oct 28th)?

Rejected (or "not accepted") over the phone today... Well, rather be in Boston!

wow, i can't believe it. how did you feel after your interview?

I could have come up with better responses to some of the questions. I left feeling pretty decently about the interview given that I was expecting a grilling. I probably should have looked up more information about health care policy.

That's a bummer Meetchy, but it's great you already have a cool acceptance to soothe the wound with. 🙂

🙂 Tufts is a cool school. They are just a bit expensive, but ultimately we'll all be neck deep in debt if we go to a private school. UW wasn't really my top choice to begin with due to location (I want to get out for a while), administration (grilling interviewees, rejecting people for stupid reasons), and philosophy (I wasn't going to lie and tell them I want to practice family medicine in a rural/underserved area).

Advice for other interviewees (yea I was rejected, but this is just advice given by med students there/staff there)- be prepared to think on your feet, look up stuff about health care issues and ethics, stay calm and confident, and don't be afraid to speak your mind as long as you stick to your word. Good luck to all of ya!

Hey Meetchy,

I called too, they said they don't know my status but that if i was accepted I would have already heard...

So maybe you are still in the "under consideration" pool...

Were you the person that was yawning throughout the financial aid presentation?

OMG, UWSOM Admissions FTW!!! I just called to check on my app since they said that if I hadn't heard anything in 2 weeks to call back, and its been crickets for 2 weeks.

So, anyway, the guy said that I'm still being reviewed, he then noticed that I've been complete for 2 months (almost), and said, get this, that he's going to do whatever he can to get my app pushed through!!!!! What admissions reception guy does that?!?!

I 😍 UWSOM!!!

Haha nice! I am getting up there too...if you hear something soon maybe I'll have to call too.

Anybody interviewing on Monday? I heard there's a storm coming!

Just got the email about the canceled ex-com meeting. Ouch.. That cant help any of our chances..

do any current UWSOM med students or prospective students who have already interviewed want to give me some tips for preparing for my interview next week? i only have a 29P and i'm a little curious to see how next week will go knowing a couple 35+ scores have been rejected...so there must be significant weight placed on the interview... i know health policy, my amcas, and my story. i've been on 3 interviews... but what are the specific questions/answers UWSOM is looking for? why the northwest?

Thanks Bruce!

I think I'll need some luck on this one. My past interviews have been pretty relaxed, but I imagine UW to be much more serious. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah, that's the image that I get from reading the interview feedbacks... All of my interviews have been really laid back; I felt like they actually wanted me to go to their schools, haha.

I talked to a kid at my SOMA interview who had just interviewed at UWSOM, and his experience was that UWSOM was much more intense.

Yeah I walked out of there feeling like I just ran the gauntlet. Good luck...

Congrats on the interview, RonicaJay!

Anybody else hear from UWSOM yet? I'm going on being complete for a month and a half, but looks like the secondary complete/invite time has been something like 2 months or so. Oh well, looks like I'll have to wait out the rest of November before I can say anything. 😀

Thanks! I guess mine came after a month and 3 weeks or so...hang in there!

I decided that I was going to call them every week until I got an answer. So, I called them today and they said that my application is in the "final stages" of the review, whatever that means. She also said that I will "definitely" hear something by the end of November, but that I will "probably" hear something within a week. And to call back if I don't hear anything within 2 weeks (which is what they've said every time that I've called in the last 6 weeks).

Does anyone know if in fact the exec comm meeting that was scheduled for Wed. the 12th was cancelled and if so when is the next one is scheduled?

Yeah Nov is canceled. I think the next one is Dec 4...

I'm a little behind all the other SDN'ers, but does a request for residency verification mean anything? Or is it just a standard procedure for anybody completing a secondary. How long does it take? Thank you.

It means they wont consider you until you prove you are a resident. Most WA residents get a secondary, and its pretty standard procedure. It takes at least a few weeks after you gather all the necessary documents for them to make a decision.

Standard procedure, and, depending on where you're from, anywhere from pretty quick (my experience in Wyoming) to forever (Washingtonians, from the looks of things here.)

Is there such a thing as a Washingtonian?

I did not get a residency verification request last year and got rejected pretty quickly. This year i did have to verify my residency and i got an interview. It can't be a bad thing!

Thanks for the information. Let's hope the U will show me some in-state love!
