they have to do pretty well-brown only interviews like high200's of students right? their website says they accept about half the people they interview, including those accepted off the waitlist. so that means like 140 or so students are accepted overall. they probably accept like 70 to 80 off the bat, since their class is comprised of about 40 standard admits. and so its likely tht just as many peopel are eventually accepted off the wait list as are immediately acceptanced. this is entirely speculative, but it sounds about right to me...

wait list here as well. 🙁 loved the school!

Glad to hear they have waitlist movement. Does anyone know if they put EVERYONE who interviews (and is not accepted) on the wait list?

I was wondering that too...I guess we'll know if anyone posts that they were rejected.

To waitlisters, do you know how we address the person whom we are supposed to email about our desire to stay on the waitlist? It says Filomena Zani but is that a Dean? Do we simply write "Dear Dean Zani"? thoughts?

I just wrote..

Hi,

I'd like to stay on the waitlist.

-Me

because I couldn't figure it out either, but I doubt they care if their name isn't in the first line.

top choiiceee waaaaaittt lissssttttt godddddamnnitttt

It seems like a lot of people got wait-listed, including me....

wait list as well. does all of your wait list messages say that you are "highly competitive"? i am guessing its just a generic thing they tell everyone.

Interview invite here today. Was complete 12/15. I'm impressed by their turnaround time Oo.

Your calculations sound nice, but I'm almost positive you're forgetting to account for the 70 or so PLMErs that must interview with the committee but are shoe-ins.

I'm pretty sure they only have about 40 or so PLMEs for a class of 96...that's what a member of the faculty said on interview day at least.

PLMEs don't interview at all (they're in as freshman in college), and they've tried to really reduce the number that they take, so I think it is about 40 in the 2010 entering class. I have a post about this somewhere earlier in this thread, which may or may not be more detailed, LOL.

Any updates? This thread has been silent for almost a month now!!!

A friend of mind just got an interview invite to brown on Tuesday (11/19)

My app's still marked as "in process". Let the twiddling of thumbs continue!

I have an interview here next month. I am really nervous, because my interviews as a whole have not gone very well, any suggestions for here?

Ah don't be nervous. Truth be told, I thought Brown was the friendliest school I've been to thus far. When I first got there in the morning, Barbara Fuller (Director of Admissions) was so so nice and I was very impressed in that she knew everyone's applications inside and out. She was even asking about my PI's family and how they were doing and he graduated from Brown back in the early 90's, so she very invested in her past, present, and potentially future students.

As far as the interviews go, I noticed that Brown tries to pair you up with interviewers that share your same interests. For example, I currently work full time in a cancer research lab. Sure enough, one of my interviewers was an MD/PhD and practiced as a radiation oncologist. While my second interviewer didn't deal directly with cancer, he did have a past background with collegiate athletics which was refreshing since I played college basketball. Basically, know your application inside and out (both primary and secondary) because your interviewers will very likely be asking a majority of their questions directly from them. The interviews were very conversational and the interviewers certainly weren't trying to grill me. They were just trying to get a feel for what I was all about so they could be my representatives when the admissions committee met up. If you want to know more about the interview day or any specific questions that were asked feel free to PM me.

Do you know what dates your friend was offered to interview?

I interview here very soon :xf:. I found out back in October though. Thought someone might like to know...

Rejected pre-interview today. The e-mail made it sound as if all of the interview invites have been sent out. Hopefully I am mistaken.

Does anyone know when the next round of acceptances go out? I know their interview season only has about a month left.

At the interview they lead us to believe the next round of decisions goes out on Feb. 5th.

They accepted my update. "We will include it in your file."

Same info was relayed to me. Status will be updated online by noon AT THE EARLIEST, but may take some time before it actually goes up.

I really agree with JonnyD33. This was by far my best interview, and my interviewers seemed to be matched according to my interests/past experiences. We had the whole morning to relax and ask questions, eat breakfast and lunch, take a tour, and THEN have our interviews. I mean I know it is hard to relax when all you can think about are the impending interviews, but Barbara Fuller, the financial aid staff, the medical students, and everyone else there seemed so much friendlier than at any of the other schools I interviewed at (this was my 6th interview).

My advice would be to really figure out why you love Brown, RI, why you want to be a doctor, what you do for fun, and what you would tell your interviewer to tell the panel to convince them to accept you. These seemed to be the main things that were talked about in my interviews and I really don't remember getting asked any questions that didn't hit on these basic concepts. I personally didn't get any questions on healthcare or "have you ever been in a group where you had a difficult member? how did you handle that situation?" or "if you could be a fruit what would you be?" I did have those at other interviews but that was not the type of interview I had at Brown. It was a conversation that I basically had to explain why I was the ideal candidate for not only medical school but specifically Brown.

I hope this helps! Feel free to message me if you have any more questions.

Also, I got accepted and am definitely going to Brown next year it was my first choice 🙂

Yup you pretty much hit it on the head. One more thing to add... be sure to know what you wrote for the "Where you see yourself in 2030" question. I recall getting asked multiple questions from both of my interviewers relating to that essay.

Brown was without a doubt my favorite school I've visited thus far. While I wasn't accepted (placed on the waitlist), I wouldn't even hesitate about going to this school if accepted. Here is hopefully seeing you next year WhiteCottonRain!

JonnyD33, if you would go to Brown above other schools if you were accepted, then the admissions committee would probably like to know that if you haven't told them already. A follow up letter of intent that emphasizes your love of Brown (where you can just reiterate why you love Brown and why Brown is school where you will thrive) can possibly help you off the waitlist. I think the big fear of an admissions committee is that they accept someone that decides to reject them for another school, so if they know you want them in return then they may take you instead of someone else in the end. As long as it is a sincere and polished letter, I do not think it can hurt you to show them how much you want it and are willing to fight. Also it keeps your name fresh in their mind.

You may have already done this too, but maybe someone else can benefit from this suggestion.

Ya I've sent them an update/intent letter already with a second one coming in the week or so. I can already tell you as to why I was waitlisted and that is because I just didn't do a good enough job convincing them that I was serious about moving from Utah all the way out to Providence. Good advice though, and to those of you on the waitlist don't be afraid to contact the admissions office... it will only help you.

Decisions are up. Was lucky enough to be accepted!

Yea, I'm strongly considering attending. Loved the school and I'm from Providence so it would be great to be near friends/family. Its down to Brown and two other schools (UVA and UConn).

I was just there. They have filled up their interview spots. Final decisions will come out on march 19th!

Anyone know if Brown ranks their waitlist or if they can let you know where you are on it?

I mean it's possible it's ranked, but when I asked barbara, she said that everyone on the wailist gets reviewed when spots open up, that doesn't sound to me like it's a ranked waitlist.

I just interviewed last week and Barbara explicitly said the wait list is not ranked - they say it is not helpful for them in the process to rank so they don't!

Ok, that's awesome, I'm glad to hear it.
