I still haven't heard from CCLCM. I applied to both concurrently. For people who have gotten UP pre-interview hold and also applied to CP, when did you hear back from CP (after/before/same time as UP pre-interview hold)?

Similar situation - complete for 9+ weeks, though I haven't been put on hold; contacted Case admissions through iApply and was told they were waiting on a decision from CCLCM. Emailed them asking for a status update; response pending.... Nothing to do but wait some more, I suppose.

yeah same thing going on here. all you can do is be patient.

I'm in! 🙂 😍:luck:👍🙂
ACCEPTED this afternoon!!!!

I know I missed a couple of you, but congratulations! Hope to see you in July.

Congrats!

I am on hold 🙁. I am surprised I never got an email telling me to check my status.

On hold as well 🙁

Send us a letter! But remember, don't just stress how much you love Case--tell us why you fit in here and how you'd make this place rock that much harder.👍:luck:

I'm all over the map on this thread today....🙂🙁😱😕:scared:👍👎luck:

I'm sad to here about people's rejections and holds. I've had a blast with those who have PMed me or talked to me out there (You know who you are).

And let me tell you I can personally attest to buffywannabe's intentions to go here! Off the record, she was super-excited after her interview 🙁

Ugh...emotional roller-coasters...:barf:

Sorry, guys. I have to go over to school tomorrow anyway. I'll see if I can find anything out for you about the progress of screening and sending out invites.

This has nothing to do with med school applications or even with Case. But since I've been reading all of your posts venting about everything, I just want to vent to someone too about how I've been studying for Step 2 for all of four days, and I'm sick of it already. I'm 11% through this question bank that everyone on SDN swears by. I've been doing pretty well on the questions, and I have to admit that I'm learning a lot. It's just that learning can be so...painful sometimes. 🙁

Just stick at your sewing machine, keep your head down, and do-it to-it!

Just out of curiosity, do you feel alone on this one? Or did you put the word out to the other super-brainiacs at CCLCM? Did you convene a meeting of the Super Medical Student Friends at the CCLCM Hall Of Justice

or are you studying alone?

And more importantly, if you were a CCLCM Super Medical Student Friend, which Super Friend would you be?

I'm studying alone. Everyone takes Step 2 at all random times during an approximately two-year timespan, so I'm not even sure if any of my classmates are studying for it now. A bunch of them are out of town for their research years anyway. You don't see your classmates on a regular basis anymore after second year. That's not just a CCLCM thing. In general, everyone goes off and does different rotations after the second year of med school. Even if we were all doing Step 2 at the same time, I am not a group studier. I studied for Step 1 by myself too. 😳

And more importantly, if you were a CCLCM Super Medical Student Friend, which Super Friend would you be?
I only recognize Superman, Wonderwoman, and Batman out of that crowd. Maybe I'll just be the dog. 😛

^^I loved the students at Case. They're so friendly and helpful!

Also, I was accepted this evening 🙂

Rejected pre interview at Case :< (complete 8/21)

But first interview offered at CCLCM! Incredibly thrilled about this, going to have to see when I can schedule for tomorrow during the day....

!

Accepted 🙂

My long-lost acceptance twin!! Now you have to pick between them too...

Congrats everyone that got accepted!! I'm looking forward to hopefully meeting you all soon.

To those on hold - stay strong and good luck. It could still happen.

In terms of the interview with the faculty member at CCLCM, will they be specific to your field of research or will they just ask you to talk about your research in general?

I've had research in different fields, but I'm more familiar with my more recent projects than ones I had 2 years ago. Just worried that they would question me about work done a long time ago compared to the past summer..

Thanks!

I can only speak for myself, but I have over 11 years of research, and we jumped all around my career during my interview...having said that, you most likely wrote in-depth on at least one of your research efforts on an essay. If you don't remember the details from 2 years ago, I'd just be honest with the interviewer and answer to the best of your ability, stating what you can from memory? If it was published, I'd review your articles, etc., but that's just me! As for the topic, you have to decide if the work was esoteric/uncommon (in which case, she/he may stay vague), or if your interviewer will be able to follow along?

(Ir)regardless, I hope you have a blast! It was really a relaxed interview, and hopefully you enjoy it as much as I did!

You have committed a parenthetical grammar faux pas. I regret to inform you that I must now temporarily revoke your eggplant win and place you on hold until such time as adequate recompense is paid.

They will often try to have someone interview you who is familiar with your area of research, but that won't always happen. My advice is to review the stuff you did two years ago just in case. I didn't get asked about my old research at this interview, but I did get asked about it at another school. So it was good that I had re-read it!

Have any interview invites gone out recently?
Ok, I talked to Dean Franco, and the CCLCM screeners are pretty behind right now. She said that they are still working through the people who were complete in August. So, if you were complete at CCLCM in September or October, you probably still won't be hearing for a while. If you were complete in late August, hopefully you will be hearing soon. Also, they are about halfway done sending out invites for the year. The total number of people interviewed will be around 250. Hope this helps.

I seem to recall my grade-school English teacher telling me that irregardless isn't a real word. :meanie:

Just fyi, irregardless for sure is not a real word, lol If someone can come up with a situation where the meaning of "irregardless" should be used instead of "regardless" that's when it'll be a real word, lol

Not necessarily. They could just be used as synonyms and mean the same thing. There are other examples of words that sound like they are opposites but are used as synonyms, like flammable and inflammable. (The opposite of flammable is nonflammable.)

If any of you want to boost your vocab, join this mailing list. I've been a member for several years, and you'd be amazed at what you can pick up in one minute per day or less....

It's in the dictionary, which to me, makes it a real word.

I hate it though. Hate it with a fiery passion! :boom:

Irregardless of what you people thing, I often like to sit in a cwm and eat herbs like sage, rosemary, and bananas.

Irregardless is not a word. It was added to the dictionary because enough people with a complete lack of understanding of what the prefix "ir-" means insist on using it at every possible opportunity.

Sort of like how the meaning of "peruse" has changed completely just through colloquial use.

Quite. Wikipedia entry on auto-antonyms is rather amusing, if you guys aren't feeling distracted enough already.👍

Ah, yes. That's the only thing keeping one of my older email addresses alive right now.

But seriously, it's a great resource.👍

:meanie:

All jokes aside, I don't use irregardless, nor do I dethaw my food before I cook it.

However, to play devil's advocate: the dictionary is not the "end-all authority" on the English language. English is far from static! And really in the long run, isn't popularity about as close a metric as any for what is 'correct'? :poke:

But if you guys love English words, there is a good podcast, Podictionary, a Canadian 2 minute prodcast on words...

and I HIGHLY recommend this book Depraved and Insulting English:
http://www.borders.com/online/store/TitleDetail?type=0&catalogId=10001&simple=1&defaultSearchView=List&keyword=depraved+and+insulting&LogData=[search%3A+17%2Cparse%3A+25]&searchData={productId%3Anull%2Csku%3Anull%2Ctype%3A0%2Csort%3Anull%2CcurrPage%3A1%2CresultsPerPage%3A25%2CsimpleSearch%3Atrue%2Cnavigation%3A0%2CmoreValue%3Anull%2CcoverView%3Afalse%2Curl%3Arpp%3D25%26view%3D2%26all_search%3Ddepraved%2Band%2Binsulting%26type%3D0%26nav%3D0%26simple%3Dtrue%2Cterms%3A{all_search%3Ddepraved+and+insulting}}&storeId=13551&sku=0156011492&ddkey=http:SearchResults

The foreword talks about how English isn't getting crude or rude...that in fact the English language has always been a crude and rude language from the get-go. Then it goes on to ponder why there are so many words in the English language that mean "To splatter with feces"...excellent book. I foresee using these particular 'feces-deposition' words plenty of times in medical school :meanie:

Boy that super-long link doesn't want to behave...oh well...give me grief if you must guys...

A Lovely Poem of the English Language

I take it you already know
Of tough and bough and cough and dough?
Others may stumble, but not you
On hiccough, thorough, slough, and through.
Well don't! And now you wish, perhaps,
To learn of less familiar traps.

Beware of heard, a dreadful word
That looks like beard but sounds like bird.
And dead: it's said like bed, not bead,
For goodness sake don't call it deed!

Watch out for meat and great and threat
(They rhyme with suite and straight and debt).
A moth is not a moth as in mother
Nor both as in bother, nor broth as in brother,
And here is not a match for there,
Nor dear and fear, for bear and pear.

And then there's dose and rose and lose--
Just look them up--and goose and choose
And cork and work and card and ward
And font and front and word and sword
And do and go, then thwart and cart,
Come, come! I've hardly made a start.

A dreadful Language? Why man alive!
I learned to talk it when I was five.
And yet to write it, the more I tried,
I hadn't learned it at fifty-five.

I have interviews for both the programs. Does it help at all, for my chances in one, if I also have an interview at the other? Do they even know?

While we do know at the UP if you interview at CCLCM and vice versa, it does not play a role whatsoever in the decision of either committee.

Anyone want to kick themselves for signing up for too many things at school while juggling interviews?

That's me. Epic catastrophe...I'm considering interviewing during my finals week (not on the final exam days though...obviously!) so I can get in on the review before Dec 15 (CCLCM/UP) while not missing as much class.

How far away are the interviews scheduled? Are they up to December? (It's my first post of the thread and I'm not going to read through the insanity of this thread)

Unless someone on the forum has recently scheduled an interview and can chime in, I'll be in the admissions office tomorrow for interviews and will ask Ellen to find out. I'm kind of curious myself. If I had to guess though, I would say that there are likely very few slots available for December left. Also, if you wanted to be reviewed before the winter break, you'll most likely have to interview no later than 12/8.

Is that true for CCLCM and UP? I'm coming up in-between 12/8 and 12/15. Not making the cut makes driving to Cleveland during finals much less appealing.

Actually, I want to qualify my original statement. There's a chance that 12/11 folks may be reviewed at the last adcom meeting before break, but definitely none of the applicants interviewing the week of 12/14 as the committee usually meets on every other Monday (this was explained somewhere upthread). Can't speak for CCLCM.

Anyone know, what's the last interview month? Thanks.

Depends on how quickly applicants are interviewed. I think they usually interview about 1000 applicants and that usually goes until late Feb. or so.

any suggestions on what to do if you were put on hold?

i feel like they accepted or put people on hold, but didnt really reject anyone

As iceman77_7 said, yes, CCLCM knows if you interview with the UP (and even if they accept you), and no, we don't care what those people down the street do. :meanie:

Sorry, I couldn't tell you. Probably if you're scheduling both together, you'll be coming after the holidays.

Not for CCLCM. The first CCLCM subcommittee meeting is on Tuesday, December 15. Anyone who interviews up to that point, including Monday the 14th, can be considered on the 15th. I'm not sure if they have any interviews scheduled on the 17th and 18th, but if they do, those people would be up for consideration at the January subcommittee meeting.

In general, CCLCM's adcomm considers all applicants up to and including the day of the meeting. Since the regular adcomm meetings are on alternate Thursday afternoons, if you interview on a Thursday when there's an adcomm meeting, the adcomm will review your file the same day you interviewed. As in, while you're in the little conference room listening to the financial aid presentation and watching the assessments movie, the adcomm is already meeting, and your file is up for a vote.

Anyone know, what's the last interview month? Thanks.
For CCLCM, it will be mid-to-late February.

Are you post-interview or pre-interview hold? Sorry, I know you've posted this info already, but there are too many of you for me to keep track of everyone's status. 😳

I'm assuming you're on post-interview hold. If so, if/when you have significant updates, send them in. As myuu posted a while back, you can also talk about how you're a good fit for Case and how much you love us (if you actually do). We're big on fit.

Wow, CCLCM reviews applicants that interviewed the day of the adcom meeting? That's a fast turnaround from the interviewers! Back when I was interviewing, I was happy if I got my feedback in by that evening! 😱

🙁...

The cup is half full! I can make another big trip and combine several and save on money! I would s--- in my pants if I got into CCLCM.
