I've sent Mr. Essman a question through e-mail like 1.5 week ago but haven't heard back :scared:

Homoochan!

IMHO I think is within the rules of professional etiquette to send a quick "courtesy e-mail" stating you are not sure if the original was received...and summarize or attach the first? Maybe explain: you understand he is busy, however you are afraid the original e-mail was lost? Give him the benefit of the doubt, and keep it professional, sweet, and short.

Oh, and now send it late Sunday night (or very early Monday), and it will be at the top of his inbox list in the morning when he checks...

Interview invite, sent in my application sept. 19th. Very pleased and very excited!

Quick question, ladies and/or gents... I applied chose my interview date, but I didn't receive any sort of email and my interview date doesn't seem to be reflected on my case status page. It's not a big deal, and I'm pretty sure they recorded it because there is a message saying I can't apply for a new date when I try, but seems a bit strange that there isn't something to confirm or remind one. So...is this normal? LOL, thanks and sorry to bother.

Yeah, that happens to everyone. In a day or two a link will show up on iapply saying that your date has been confirmed and will list the date. You'll also get additional info via e-mail about where and when to show up and staying with a student host if you want. Congrats! You'll have so much fun.

Thanks! I'll do that.
By the way, CONGRATS!! 👍

Sah-weet, thank you very much!

I'm really looking forward to it (I didn't realize there was a student host program too, awesome!).

I hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween!

OK. I don't even live in Cleveland, but I'm already sick of the national coverage of that house...I can only imagine the local coverage? Not to be negative, but it brings up a point I know was touched upon probably 20 pages ago: how safe do the students feel on campus(es)?

I ask partly because I am sure there are people out there who are watching the story unfold too, and I think it would be nice to give you folks a chance to provide your take on it?

To be perfectly honest, I've been working most of the weekend and haven't even looked at the news. Am I right to assume you're talking about the house where 6 bodies were found?

I didn't grow up in Cleveland. I've been here for 3 years, so I don't have a historical perspective on the city and its safety. I will say that, like all cities, Cleveland has some areas to stay away from, as do all cities. The difference between Cleveland and other cities I've spent time in is those areas in other cities seem to be much more well defined than in Cleveland. I tend to describe Cleveland as a checkerboard. There are small chunks of nice areas right up against small chunks of not so nice areas, and I get the feeling it breeds resentment in both directions.

I live in Cleveland Heights, about 5 minutes from the Case Campus. I feel perfectly safe in my neighborhood, but if I go a little ways in virtually any direction, I will be in areas where I would not want to be alone in at night.

The Case undergrad and medical school campuses sit next to one of the more well-defined rough areas of Cleveland (East Cleveland), and it's a genuinely tough place.

That said, in the three years I've been here, I can probably count the number of times I've felt unsafe on one hand, and none of those feelings ever panned out to actually being unsafe. If you're careful, you're fine, and many of the areas surrounding Cleveland are very nice and family friendly.

So, I don't get cable and have a tv that's of questionable functional status, but I did see enough about that story to get the address of what I'm guessing is the house in question (or at least it's the house the guy lives in). It's in a not-so-great portion of shaker heigts that's a good 15 minute car ride away from campus (which means, given the placement of stoplights and the ridiculous speed limits here, 20-39 minutes), that I have so far had no occasion to visit.

As long as you're not dong anything patently unsafe to begin with, you should be fine on and around campus.

But you might want to stay out of east cleveland...

interview invite yesterday. SO EXCITED!!!!

so people who interviewed on 10/26, will we hear news tomorrow after the committee meets or most likely later on in the week? I would guess Tuesday or Wed.

Decisions aren't entered into the system until a day or two after the meeting, so Tues/Wed is correct.

Wow, I'm more nervous about this decision than I was about my MCAT scores. It'd be great if I got an acceptance. However, I'm thinking a hold is more likely given that Case likes to keep spots open throughout the interview season. Then again, you never know.

I didn't even know what you were talking about until I googled it after reading this post. That being said, some of us are studying and not watching TV.

My take on it is that the guy is a serial killer. Serial killers make the national news because they're sensational, and because they cause the death of multiple victims. But I don't think you can hold up a serial killer as a typical example of Cleveland crime, any more than you can point to a plane crash and call it a typical example of death while traveling. Most people who die while traveling die in car crashes rather than plane crashes, and most people who die violently were not murdered by serial killers!

Other than that, I've already posted extensively about being mindful of the fact that Case/CCF are urban campuses. It's important to use your common sense and not go looking for trouble. That applies everywhere, not just in Cleveland.

Send it in if you really want to go there. I got an interview (albeit I've been put on hold after the interview) with similar stats. You never know unless you try!

i was complete there in mid of sept and still have not heard back. Called today and the lady told me that "yea its been a while since you applied and no one has looked at your file, I will mark your file so that it is expedited."

This has got me worried. So my application was not attractive enough to garner any attraction from the committee and that is why its been sitting there with no love? Any ideas from Case Western students whether my concerns are valid?

Much appreciated.

I was complete in mid-September also and haven't heard back. Maybe I should call as well...

Are you talking about CCLCM or UP? Big difference in how applications are reviewed between the two. If you're talking about CCLCM, I think this falls in line with about the timeline they seem to be following with regards to reviewing (although CCLCMer can confirm to be sure). Just recently it was mentioned that they were only on mid-August completes. Although having just finished exam week, my definition of "recently" may be a bit skewed.

As for UP, well, I'm pretty sure that you mean CCLCM since I'm fairly certain if you were a UP applicant that your application would have been reviewed at least once by now.

With that said, if the person who answered the phone said "no one has looked at your file" then to me that means "no one has looked at your file." How could anybody have deemed your application "not attractive enough to garner any attention" without having looked at it?

In short, it probably doesn't mean anything at all.

just think 10/26 people, they are looking over our apps and deciding our fates right now!!!! intense, lol :xf::luck:

Yeah, I can't wait to hear back! Too bad it will probably just a hold and then more waiting til the spring 😛 That will make for a long winter.

wow, many ppl are waiting.

I realize this isn't pertinent in response to the original question because collosal was asking abut the UP, but I interviewed at the CT just last week when I was complete around August 10th. Interview invite for both tracks came roughly a week later, so I don't know that they're necessarily on some sort of time line. Just my .02.

Now, to send some good vibes in the direction of the UP adcom :xf::xf::xf:.

...uh...awkward silence?...

So on Halloween I had 'house duty' while the fam went out to trick-or-treat for almost 4 hours (!) and I took the opportunity to sit and look at what regulars to this thread are posting in other threads...And let me just give a shout-out to you guys! People like Rockaction and Bbender et al...I am amazed how nasty some folks are in other threads and how many of you are acting mature and considerate 'out there'. You rock folks! I look forward to the day I will call you my professional colleagues!

👍👍👍👍

woaa nelly. Tomorrow we could know the news!

Ugh, it's going to be hell. I already check my e-mail more than any sane person should. Tomorrow is going to be tough, haha. At least I have a heavy duty endocrinology exam to occupy my mind (along with the philosophy paper I have to write, but haven't thought about because I'm busy memorizing more hormonal mechanisms than should be humanly possible).

Lol you already got an acceptance, whats there to be nervous about? It got alot easier for me after I got the acceptance. Now I dont ever check my email anymore, unless I get alerts.

yup, i think some people just have not celebrated their acceptance or are doing too many 1st choice/2nd choice/"safety" thing and are just adding the stress.

once i went out and let loose, i really felt fortunate that i would have a pretty good chance of having a very established career in something i currently feel like i would enjoy doing.

after that, i let my interviews be (i try to continue to learn about myself and the field of medicine/science and try to do the best job in the lab and teaching) and try to do the little things that could make me be a better doctor - ie, look for cheap houses and apartments that could lower my debt and reduce the burden that finances would have on my life (or my families) or towards my patients. plus its wayyyyyyyy more fun to look at condos than checking email/sdn

Well sure, but it's nice to have options . Plus, I really enjoyed Case, and would in all probability go there over my current acceptance. I don't get alerts either. I asked for an iPhone for Christmas and was pretty much told I'd get one (they sure kill the magic when you're 21...), but for now I'm on the old flip phone. An iPhone would make this whole process WAY easier. I'd never check my e-mail unless it was sent to my phone.

It's probably a fair mix of these two as well. It really hasn't hit me that I'm going to be a doctor just yet probably because I'll be taking 18+ credits through graduation, because hey, it would be fun to add a philosophy major to my bio major. Just seems a bit distant still, and I'm in the mindset that I'm still under a ton of pressure (which is probably actually just the pressure of 18 creds + research + ~20 hours of rugby a week).

yea i actually hung out with a lot of applicants (and reapplicants) and you could really feel their stress sometimes. just take a day off and buy people that have supported you a round of drinks, get some strangers involved too whynot

I would think an iPhone would make the whole process harder, actually. If I had access to my email 24/7, I would probably just go nuts.

Really hoping for my first acceptance... how am I supposed to sleep now?

i'm going on a sleep strike! i refuse to go to sleep until Case tells me their decision on my file!! ...sike! im gonna go sleep like a baby for 8+ hours right now!!!! i love sleep too much!!! good luck all! 🙂

They told us 10/27 ers that they would review us on Monday too, so maybe we hear something today as well?

I'd say chances are good, then.👍

...But I'm not on the committee, so I have no idea.
