hahaha...well...CCLCMer doesn't play by the rules...

I'm surprised Myuu didn't put up more of a fight...

Don't need to. I've got 60 pages worth of post to delete as I see fit.😎

I'm partial to
"you will find true love on Flag Day"
I have no idea what this means, but for the record, I like your avatar.

It's sooooo on for the 10,000th...all the rules are out the door...gonna pad the post all night if I have to to get there...
Hey, your kids snooze, you lose. :meanie:

speaking of bending the rules...your link to the contest for the CWRU EM guys?

UCSF is at almost 10,000!?! I smell a rat...
I know, things are not looking so good for our hero. 🙁

Not gonna go through the insanity of the 60-page thread (Case is approaching retirement!) but.....

about what time will UP interviewees be done? Flight at 6pm.
Hi! Are you going to be there Monday? Can we be co-interviewee pals? 😀

Hey guys,

I have my interview here on January 12th (anybody else?). I was really wondering if anybody had advice for the interview (do they question heavily on health care reform, etc...?) other than "just be yourself", cuz that's about all I know how to do =(..

I haven't had an interview since...october, so I'm a little rusty.

Thanks for all your help!

I was wondering if a CCLCM student could explain the PBL at the school. How is it different from other schools? Just the quantity of PBL classes each week or the layout of it?

Do I need to start deleting people's posts for them?:meanie:

See this post.

You might also find the description of PBL on the school website here helpful.

That's a tremendous improvement in your physical appearance. 👍 :meanie:

So I had my dad go digging in the garage to find his old Russian goose down winter jacket and fur lined boots. After seeing that picture now I feel like I'm ready to interview in Cleveland.

Ok, full disclosure! That picture was taken about a half hour southeast of Cleveland in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. There's maybe an inch of snow on the ground here in the city, but it can be rather windy.

Not sure what city you're referring to, but there's easily 5 inches of snow on the ground here in Cleveland Heights.

Whoa, nice. I haven't been outside since maybe 7:40 this morning, but there was a light dusting on the ground next to campus. Are we finally getting that lake effect snow we were promised?

hey guys!!

hope the new year is going awesomely. so i have a question. I interview end of january and will be coming via the greyhound bus. I wanted to know if u knew any good reliable taxi services that would be able to be pick me up at around 11pm because that is when my bus arrives. I was looking at cleveland taxi services online and a lot of them have very bad reviews, any ideas?

Yeah, and 5 is a conservative estimate, I'd say. Plus, it's still snowing...

I think I was fooled by all the snow that isn't in my path due to the plowing. On my way back, I stepped into a knee-high snowbank on the stairs.😀

I don't know of any reliable taxi service, unfortunately. This city isn't like Chicago or New York where you can just walk outside and grab a cab. I think if you haven't already bought the ticket, you might want to come some other way instead of Greyhound. Granted, I've never been to the Greyhound station in Cleveland, but they're generally not in good areas in any city, and it's especially iffy since you're coming in pretty late.

If you've already bought the ticket, where are you staying? I would see if you could get your host or a hotel shuttle to come pick you up. You could also call the Greyhound station and ask what kinds of ground transportation they have available. But I don't think it's like an airport with cabs waiting there by the door, unfortunately.

Sorry that I couldn't be more helpful. Hope you can figure something out.

I have seen it. You are correct--it is not in an especially nice part of town. The RTA buses may stop there, but I'm not sure (I think it's on Chester). I've only taken a cab in town once or twice, so I'm no help there, either. 🙁

I've gone by the Greyhound station a few times on my way downtown and I've always seen cabs outside waiting to pick up passengers so I think you'll be fine.

Here are the observed highs and lows for Cleveland for the last 30 days, for those of you that are interested.

You also have to buy ~$100 train ticket from Cusco to Aguas Calientes (at base of Machu Picchu).

And the Peru Rail office is a NIGHTMARE.

I m supposed to stay with a student host. I do not know if it will be too much to aks her to come pick me up especially since its so late. Oh crap, what to do now? I'll just have to figure it out

I have some questions on finical aid, maybe someone can help me understand a little better:

1. My parents make way too much for me to be considered for need based aid, does Case still need all their information? Taxes? Info on the fafsa?

2. If I don't fill out the need forms, am I ruled out of all non-need based grants and special loans?

3. My parents wont be supporting me at all, do I need to get separate loans to cover the determined "parental" contribution? Who exactly gives me loans? Do I have to apply for loans aside from Case (going to outside vendors)?

Thanks 😀

1. Yes you must still do
1) FAFSA
2) Need Access
3) CWRU Financial Aid application
4) Submit forms like W2 or w/e else they ask

2. If you don't do those listed above, you won't get a financial aid letter. You won't be offered any loans.

3. Yes, you will need to get loans to cover the expected "parental" contribution. The loans are offered through the government. If your expected expenses are more than the Case determined budget, then you will need to seek extra loans, which can come from outside vendors or possibly from the government through other loans they have.

Case will offer you enough grants+loans so it covers up to their budget, they have to.

The financial aid office will be releasing info soon. You can check out http://casemed.case.edu/financial_aid/ as well

Is there a Case Class of 2014 thread yet? I didn't see one. Have they put the dates for Second Look Weekend on iapply yet? If I remember correctly, it's April 9-11 😀

Yeah, I hear what you're saying. She probably wouldn't be thrilled about it. I wouldn't be. 😳

I'm not sure what to tell you to do. Let's see....ok, I think you should go to the Greyhound website and get the number for their Cleveland station, then call them tomorrow and ask about ground transportation. If they don't have cabs waiting, have you tried calling the cab companies to ask if one can come at your arrival time? If you can't get a cab, you could try calling one of the airport shuttle services. I have no idea if they go to the Greyhound station or not, but it's worth a try. The two I have used are Ohio Connection (216-299-6966) and Cleveland Express (216-661-9105 or 216-577-9275). Other than that, I'm out of ideas.

...can we make it entering class of 2010....for those of us who may be 'life-long learners'? 😀

if not...what about a "Case Western c/o 2014*" Thread?

*c/o 2015 CCLCM
Make it entering c/o 2010. That's what they did at the White Coat Ceremony, since there are also MSTP students who have no idea when they'll be graduating. 🙂

Welcome back! Long time no see. :d

Had my interview at CCLCM on Dec 18th, then left immediately for Hawaii and just got back. That was a kickass two weeks.

I gotta say, coming out of the interview I was convinced that I would drop any other school if I got an acceptance at CCLCM. Both my faculty interviewers and the student interviewer were all quite friendly and enthusiastic about the school and the Clinic in general. I realllllly hope I get a call at the end of January.

Still waiting on a decision! I feel like I'm being slowly strangled to death by my obsessive love for Case!😱

Glad you had a good experience, and good luck! For the record, I sure wish I was in Hawaii right now. 😛

Good luck to you too!

And the Peru Rail office is a NIGHTMARE.

Multiply all times in Peru and Ecuador by 1.5 to 2.5 and you will not be a frustrated American...if something takes 'about an hour' = 'about 2 hours"

And I think you are trying to throw the gauntlet down for Iceman77_7, huh....

:poke:

yea i would say i would have to take the plane to cusco so you can add another $200. but all that said, im hoping to do this trip with all the Pisco Sours in under a grand - which would make me happy.

and the gauntlet is already down!

this is how i spend the 30 min between staining during flow cytometry

I really liked the fact that CCLCM focused a lot on their curriculum and teaching style. A lot of people wonder about PBL and the interview day really cleared it up for me.

It's really not one of those situations where you can get away without any studying because there are no grades or whatever, but you really have to go all out because you are openly interacting with your classmates, and therefore are being judged by them, as well. I think they tell you that it's definitely for everyone and I appreciated that they let people know instead of being like PBL >> or we lect're and we better during the interview day.

Do you guys know if CCLCM is still giving out interviews?
I would really like one.

Thanks for the response CCLCMer!

I had one more question- since you have anatomy all year, does the topic in your anatomy class directly relate to what you are learning in your seminars/PBL?

From Case's website:

"If you are placed in the Hold category the Admissions Committee will revisit your application later in the admissions cycle to determine whether to place you on the alternate list or close your application for the current cycle."

So does this mean that getting put on hold means that you aren't eligible for a straight acceptance anymore? I thought a hold was kind of a deferral on your decision, that they would reevaluate you for acceptance in the next meeting. But looking at this it seems like you will either be waitlisted or rejected if you've been put on hold.

You can get an acceptance after post-interview hold.

congratulations to all of you who have gotten interviewed and those who have also gotten accepted. Could you guys please give interview feedback? Its very helpful but the CCLCM section has very few entries...i interview end of january and need all the help i can get

I'm having trouble finding hosts for UP and CCLCM...no one seems to be replying. Sent emails to 2 or 3 CCLCM and about 5 to UP, and have waited for up to a week for some.

Are students still on break or in the middle of exams? I can't find the academic calendars Or am I asking too soon or expecting a reply too quickly? (Interviewing at the end of the month)

Worst case scenario is hotel right? $60 a night is not bad compared to prices in other cities...but considering that 2 nights in a hotel is the cost of my plane ticket... :\
