Actually, the list posted was for the previous year I found out. I brought it to the attention of the ad office and they said they accidentally posted it and subsequently removed it. Hopefully an updated one is posted soooon!

As Myuu mentioned, the new student host list was recently circulated amongst all of us to add our names to for hosting all of you interviewees. 🙂 The list will be ongoing, but I imagine a new one will probably be available in a week or so.

Some schools like it if you come in and introduce yourself and get to know the dean of admissions. Is this true about Case and the CCLCM program or would it be seen as an annoyance?

Well, Dean Franco is a really friendly and nice person. Her door is pretty much open all the time except when she's in a meeting or seeing patients. If you really need to see her about something, she'll usually drop what she's doing and talk to you. (She's our dean of students as well as the dean of admissions.) But between coordinating admissions, handling student affairs, seeing patients in her psychiatry practice, counseling premeds on getting into med school, teaching med students and residents, talking to applicants on interview day (and interviewing some of them too), traveling, going to meetings, etc. etc., she would probably not mind if random people didn't drop by just for the hell of it!

But for serious, if you need to meet with her, you should call Darlene (her secretary) and make an appointment.

This is a total tangent, but I'm going to say it anyway because it's cool. Dr. Mehta has an identical twin. Her twin was in Doc Opera with her, I think the year before last.

I'm a little confused with all these different programs. I applied MSTP, but I also applied to MD only for both the UP and the CCLCM. I just got an interview invite for the CCLCM, but I haven't heard anything about the UP or the MSTP. Does that mean that I will be invited for the UP (or even the MSTP) as well, or are the interview invites done independently for the different programs? Or does that mean that I am only being invited to interview with the CCLCM?

No invites for CCLCM are supposed to have gone out yet, so that could easily explain your confusion. 😉

I think jeron is messing around with you guys. But I'll double check tomorrow to confirm that no invites have been sent out yet, and maybe get an EDI (estimated date of invitation 😛).

yea i was completed earlier today. idk how they reviewed it so fast! sheesh. but im so excited!!

the earliest interview date is tghe 28 of sept. thoughts on whether monday, tuesday, or friday would be a better day?? im leaning towards a tuesday. ill be driving from NY. anybody else on here picking one of those early days??

on a side note, when did they start interviewing? is the 28th the first day or is it just the first available?

I believe we start interviewing mid-september, so I'm thinking that's the first available.👍

Well I called the CCLCM admissions office today and talked to them about scheduling my interview. They didn't seem to think I was messing with anyone. It's not my fault nobody else is getting any love. 🙂

As my PI likes to call it, I gave a very "clinician-friendly" version of my research. A brief overview of what the problem is that is being solved, whats the general approach youre taking to solve it (i.e. are you using HPLC? Gels? RT-PCR?). Then go into what you found out. I said that I hadnt finished my project, and listed some things I found out up to this point. Said I would be continuing it over breaks, and gave some lessons I learned through this experience (i.e. perssistence, diligence, patience, teamwork, etc.)

I think you have then right idea. You don't want to speak to an expert in your field, but you also are writing to a scientist who reads a lot of research essays and probably has a good handle on general scientific material.

Don't write as if it is a scientific research paper. For example: If my research is "Voluntary exercise increases LTP and neurogenesis in the Dentate Gyrus and CA1 of OVX rats" I would probably re-write it to say something like "Exercise increases the synaptic density and neurogenesis in ovariectomized rats." or even "Exercise has a positive action on brain health in estrogen deprived rats."

Whatever you do make it less wordy and easier to read. And also give a quick one to two sentences on future directions of the project.

Well I called the CCLCM admissions office today and talked to them about scheduling my interview. They didn't seem to think I was messing with anyone. It's not my fault nobody else is getting any love. 🙂

You are right, and I am sorry for suggesting you were playing a prank. But I got you some info that may help solve your confusion if you didn't already get it from the office. Dean Franco and Susan said that they are trying to coordinate invites this year with the UP, but sometimes the invites still don't get sent out at the same time. Apparently things get extra screwed up with the coordination efforts if you apply MSTP also. What you should do is call the other programs and ask them about your status before choosing your interview date for CCLCM.

For everyone else, four invites were sent out earlier this week, including jeron's, and they will be sending out more. Some new reviewers were just trained this week, so now the reviews should start going faster. Sept. 28 is the first interview day. If you applied to both programs and don't hear from both of them at once, you should call the other program and find out your status so that your interviews can be coordinated.

As for the confusion and earlier-than-normal invites, it turns out that Dean Franco is going out of town in early September, plus Susan is leaving later this month, so they are trying to get the invites sent out a few weeks ahead of schedule. When I told Dean Franco that I had been skeptical of jeron, she laughed and said it was because I didn't expect the admissions office could be this efficient. Which is true, but in my defense, understandable based on their past performance. 😳

Anyway, hope this clears everything up, and congrats to everyone who got invites, including you, jeron. 🙂
