I have a question. On my status page, it says "University Program Correspondence" and "MSTP/CTSTP Correspondence". Is CTSTP for College Track something or other? Because I applied to UP and CCLCM, but not MSTP.

Same as my status page. The second one means nothing for us. The university track is for UP and according to earlier posts on this thread, CCLCM communicates with us via email directly.

Thanks. I was worried that maybe my application somehow didn't get to CCLCM.

People are very good at concealing neuroses in real life. I find that online message boards, due to anonymity and the pack mentality, tend to expose and magnify character flaws that are otherwise unnoticeable.

Agreed. I've known people for a very long time before discovering that they were quite neurotic about their schoolwork or career... there is just no need to hide those sort of unpleasant traits in an anonymous online setting.

I finally submitted this one : S (After about 30 days)

I am officially done with all secondaries in my possesion

I can't believe I finished 35 secondaries
That's both crazy and impressive at the same time.

I also applied to both and haven't heard anything... should we be worried yet? Or are there plenty more invites to be sent by both programs?? 😕
Invites will continue to be given out for a few more MONTHS. CCLCM's last interview day is at the end of February, and I think the UP has some dates in March. Regardless, it is WAY too early to worry in August about interview dates filling up in November!

People who have received interview invites that applied to both programs seem to be the exception, rather than the rule. Based on that, and this is pure conjecture of course, perhaps the admissions people have done a quick look through the applications and if there is anyone that really stands out that both programs are certain they would love to interview, they have already sent invitations to those people. People that are "maybes" for one or both get thrown in a pile for closer review, from which they'll consider for interview once they get more applications and can compare the field. If you're a maybe for one program but a strong candidate for the other, they'll wait till they decide for the other program before sending you an invite. If you seem like a poor candidate for one but a wonderful candidate for the other, they might go ahead and interview you for just the one. That might contradict some of what has been said here, but it's just my theory and I figured I'd throw it out there. Maybe some of the experts can help out if it's obvious that I'm way off base.
You know, if one--just one--of these adcoms at ANY school published their review process online or something, just so that we can get an idea of how adcoms REALLY review these files, it would dispel a lot of these theories. It wouldn't take much work (maybe a few hours of just writing up the procedure and posting it online), and at the same time it'll save them the trouble of answering phone calls and emails from obnoxiously neurotic applicants who want to know what's going on with their applications or why they haven't heard from X school in the last Y days. It's a win-win situation. I feel like after forking over $70-100 the process should at least be as transparent as possible, but idk maybe it's just me...
Both of your arguments are based on the false premise that the admissions offices are that organized! As I've explained previously, our admissions secretary left, and she still hasn't been replaced. So other people are trying to do various parts of her job along with their regular jobs. In the past four years that I've interacted with them, the CCLCM admissions office has never been the most organized to begin with. This year it is even worse.

I know it sucks to wait. But there isn't any way to speed things up from CCLCM's end right now, unless one of you knows a competent admissions secretary who would like to work in our admissions office and can start, like, yesterday.

well, obviously! who's gonna be neurotic AFTER they've gotten into med school?
Oh, you'd be surprised. Wait until exam time (for UP students). Wait until boards time (for all students). Wait until research year fellowship app time (for CCLCM students). Wait until shelf exam time (for UP students). Wait until residency app time (for all students). Not only does getting into med school not cure the neuroticism, it probably makes it worse!

Again, CCLCM does NOT use the Case status page!!! All communication with applicants is done through email and snail mail (and, if you're accepted, Dean Franco will personally call you).

I should copy and paste that last paragraph on every single page in this thread. :meanie:

Very true, and I totally understand that many schools aren't too organized with their admissions process. However, for those schools that are, I feel like it would be relatively helpful for them to post a brief synopsis of their app review procedure, not to calm down the applicants, but also to save THEM time with responding to applicants. but again, I understand that adcoms can't possibly be all that organized... I don't know how large they are, but I can imagine how annoying it is to deal with 5000 applications + secondaries + interviews + etc.

Man, if I get an interview here, I'll probably go skydiving.

Anyone know how to send along updates (summer/fall transcripts, etc.) to the admissions office?
Can't find anything on iApply...

Best bet is probably to call the Admissions Office and ask where they'd like updates sent. I don't recall there being anywhere on iApply to do it.

damn i already did that this summer.. now i have to think of something else exciting to do.. good idea though! it's an amazing experience. make sure you eat food, as your name suggests.. i didn't eat anything before the jump and kinda blacked out for a bit lol.. other than that it totally kicked ass 😀

Be careful what you wish for, I posted that if I got an interview I would "just die". Now that I have one I'm kind of worried, haha 😀

Nice...I don't know if I can do it though. I'm traumatized by heights...

interview invite!!! this made me so happy after vandy rejection. I am happy to know that case doesn't only look at people's numbers.

I am super excited and now i am going to go back and read 10+pages of this thread.

If they did, I wouldn't be sitting here in class right now.

Excellent! 🙂 Good move. Congrats and good luck!

rejected today 🙁. very surprised by this. i was complete 7/29. i thought i had a chance here and at least a shot at an interview. i randomly checked my status page thinking there would be nothing like always but this time it said "The University Program is unable to offer you an interview." i feel like im the only one on this thread that did not get an interview. that makes four rejections. on the bright side i at least have one interview and 13 more schools to hear from :xf:

Don't worry - I'm pretty sure i'm about to join you soon. Although I applied to CCLM, so...I guess my rejection is coming a bit later.

OMG CCLCM interview!!!!!!!!!

No word from the UP yet. I'll have to ask about it when I call to schedule. I'm ecstatic! 😀

congrats. when were you complete? 🙂 edit: n/m checked mdapps, 7/20

congrats guys! thx for posting the complete dates.

still waiting here on both schools (complete early aug)

all via email. i stopped checking the status of schools guys, nothing ever happens

So my research pi did not write my lor for me last week like he said he would and is now on vacation for two weeks going scuba diving or some crap like that in the caribbean so im assuming hes not gonna write it until he gets back. Would I be screwed over for any kind of interviews (thats assuming I can get an interview) at either place if I'm not complete until the middle of september?

No

Congrats to the recent interview invite recipients. Kind of gives me hope that I might hear back soon. Honestly though I don't think I really deserve an interview at CCLCM. I couldn't write a convincing argument on why I wanted to be a physician scientist because my research experience wasn't the most positive as an undergrad. But if I get one, all the better. If I just get Case, I'll be plenty happy. Neither and well.. 🙁

I feel the same way too. My research experience hasn't been the greatest thing but I feel that in a way it teaches us something. We learn to live through frustration, disappointment with putting in work and getting nothing out of it, and we learn how to better handle scientific research for the future. Lets hope for the best.

hey to Case students -- i emailed a couple students last week about student hosting but havent heard yet. how long should i wait before i send another one to the same student or to another student??

Wow. I got instant response when I emailed two student hosts. I have already set-up my date. You may wanna try emailing other students at the bottom of the list.

I agree. The two I emailed were all over it, like within 2 hours all over it. Try emailing some others!

hey, quick question (feel free to yell at me if I'm being stupid) :

if we applied to the college and university track, and assuming the UP has already started sending out invites and our apps are really being held up by CCLCM, does it mean that the UP has offered us an interview if we haven't had any correspondence? I would think that any app which is rejected from UP would automatically be rejected by CCLCM...

Mine was held up from 7/20 to yesterday, and I haven't heard a peep from the UP.

Nice idea, but no. If you haven't heard from them on a decision, it typically means they haven't made one yet. And that goes for everybody, not just people who have applied to both. Applications are initially reviewed and those that are not immediately rejected are then reviewed repeatedly throughout the season. If you haven't heard a decision yet, it means just that - one hasn't been made yet.

CCLCMer has already discussed overlap and people applying to both schools. CCLCM is not a superset of UP. Acceptance to one has no bearing on the other, with the exception of interview coordination if invited to interview at both.

Oh really?? I guess I missed this... so you're saying it's possible for someone to be accepted to CCLCM and NOT the UP? didn't know that.

but I guess it isn't very likely, as CCLCM accepts <50 people, so obviously if you're good enough to get in there, you'll get into the UP as well.

Correct, you can get into CCLCM and not UP. Happens more often than you might think.

"Good enough" has precious little to do with it after the interview you know...

I'm in the same boat. Was rejected yesterday. I was quite surprised, actually because I've made it through some other screens. Oh well...the waiting game continues. Gbarod, which interview do you have so far?

I think one thing that's important to remember, considering a lot of the dialogue as of late, is that as much as people want this to be, admissions is not purely a numbers game. This isn't like applying to undergrad where if you had the grades and SATs, you could reasonably be assured of acceptance. Yes, you need to have the numbers, but medical schools look for much more than that. This is why there's no such thing as a "safety school" when it comes to medicine.

You'll make things a lot easier on yourself if you move away from thinking of medical schools as good/better/best and actually consider the differences between the schools. This is what the admissions officers are doing with all of you, and you owe it all to yourselves to do the same with all of the schools you're applying to. If you pick a place that is "better" (which is entirely unquantifiable when it comes to medical schools, regardless of what US News would have you believe) but that isn't as good a fit for you, you're going to be a lot less happy than if you pick somewhere that's a good fit for you - whether that's a state school or one that's not as well known as Harvard or Hopkins. We all know people who got into top tier schools but were outright rejected from many "second" and "third tier" schools.

Fit is key, remember that. And don't take rejection as meaning you're not good enough, you just simply might not fit with the class the admissions committee is trying to build.

We've all heard about schools trying to bump their numbers in any given year and rejecting purely based on numbers without considering the whole application, and yes, it does happen. But that's typically the exception.

Good luck to all of you throughout this process, and I hope you do wind up somewhere that's really the right place for you! :luck:

We're rolling, so all throughout the season after October 16th. At my interview, they gave us an exact date on which to expect a decision.👍:luck:

Man, you guys are so quick with responses. I'm on research and even I can't get to the thread fast enough to beat you and st0w. Block 2's supposed to be real med school. 🙂

That's what the distractions are for!🙂

what if i had interviews for both schools and wanted to explore the option of staying with a student host. do you think that would be a major inconvenience for a med student to put up a kid for 2 nights? should i hotel motel holiday inn it?
