Interviewing early January. If I don't find a host, I don't mind paying some extra money for Carnegie if it makes things much more convenient than Suites. Otherwise, cheaper is better (and of course student hosting is best because I really want to meet you guys!).
Also, one more question that may be somewhat silly to ask, but are credit cards widely accepted in Cleveland (e.g., cabs, bus ticket sales)?
And, is it safe to go out to eat at night (I would assume yes, but some Interview Feedback is saying otherwise)? Alone? If so, what's a good place?
I think I already answered most of your questions concerning transportation and lodging logistics. If you stay in either Intercontinental hotel, they have their own restaurants located inside. There is also a cafeteria, some restaurants, and a new 24-hour AuBonPain in the hospital. (Yes, I am a little bitter about that ABP not being open yet when I was on rotations.)
As for safety, it is important to remember that both Case and CCF are urban campuses. I have never had any problems in 3.5 years of living here beyond occasionally being asked for money, but you should not take chances and go looking for trouble, either. The CCF campus is well-patrolled and safe, but I would highly recommend that you not go wandering around by yourself, at night, in an area you don't know, and especially since you're a girl. Sorry if that comes across as being sexist, but I hope you can forgive me. I promise that you'll get a tour of CCF in the morning that will probably be longer than you bargained for.
😉
Credit cards are widely accepted in stores around Cleveland but not on cabs or buses. I think it would be best if you bring some lose change and cash for the cabs and buses.
Actually, you CAN pay by CC for the red line that goes from the airport to University Rapid station, and also on the Health Line. But I agree that it's a good idea to bring exact change. For anyone else contemplating riding the Cleveland RTA, the cost is $2.25 per ride, and if you're paying cash, you must have exact change. (Don't get me wrong: if you have three ones, they'll take it. They just won't give you back your 75 cents!)
hey for any of you that have been interviewed already for CCLCM, how indept do they grill you about your research? and also about healthcare? Im an international student and dont know how much i should know abt healthcare esp with all the reform bills being passed. Also how soon after the interview do we get a response? i have mine scheduled for end of january and im nervous/excited.
You should definitely know your research very well. Be prepared to explain the background (purpose), hypothesis, applications. You could also be asked to propose some potential future hypotheses and experiments. As for the health care part, I don't know. I think vc7777's advice to read/watch the news is probably good. Hopefully you also are familiar with your own country's health care system in case anyone wants to discuss it with you.
As for when you'll hear back, it depends. If you're coming in January, the soonest you could be accepted is at the end of January. Do a search of this thread for the word "semi-rolling" if you want more info about how the CCLCM admissions decisions are made.
As to other discussions, correct me if I am wrong but CCLCMer was arguing to stay at the suites. I stayed at the Suites as well, which is cheaper and only academically less convenient than the main Continental across the street from LRI. But there is a big price differential, if I recall.
Yeah, there is a pretty significant price differential, and the Suites is really nice. I don't think it's worth paying more to stay at the regular Intercontinental when you could just take the shuttle over to the med school in the morning.
Again, if you actually would LISTEN to me, vc7777, you would remember that I tell people to take the hotel shuttle in the morning, which drops you off right outside the med school building. Of course, if you'd rather wander about aimlessly and risk getting lost on the morning of your interview, that's completely your own prerogative.
I got an invitation!!! *heart exploding with joy and joyness*
*FOR THE REGULAR MED SCHOOL, NOT CCLM, SO AS NOT TO CONFUSE LOCATION*
I'm sort of freaking out because I selected the earliest possible interview (happy!) but the date means it's hard to find someone able to host me!
I've emailed most of the people on the Case list and found someone that will (yay!) host me the night of the 4th (couldn't get an evening flight grr) but no idea if anyone will be able to on Sunday night the 3rd! That's the most important night before the interview.
Anyone have any ideas? >_<
I can't help you with the hosting bit, but congrats on the invite.
😀
