just rechecked the hold status update email that i received on the 4th and yes, that's what they said. waiting here, too.

really hope it's not going to be my first post-interview rejection, that would suck.

Is it just me or does the financial aid office not have an email address listed on the website? I sent in my stuff a while ago and just wanted to check that they received it, and they didn't pick up the last few times I called (I tried last Friday, too).

👍

(It was under the 'directory' sub-option under 'Contact Us')

FYI, you can check the status of your financial aid on your iApply account. Currently, they have all my materials except my FAFSA (which I turned in a month ago). I emailed Ms. Rollins a week ago, she said the FAFSA section should be updated today pertaining to its completeness.

Where in the iApply does it say that? I just looked and couldn't find it.

After logging in, the link is in the top right corner on the blue bar under the banner, "Financial Aid." Its right under the iApply 2010 banner.

Click that and scroll all the way to the bottom.

CCLCM waitlist here too. I actually got the letter on Saturday but I didn't see it between a few other letters. So there's still a chance.

Thanks. I feel dumb. I've sent everything in and nothing is checked... Hm... guess I'm calling in the morning.

So here's a question I'm surprised hasn't been posted yet. Case (the UP at least) requires a decision by May 1st. Many schools don't get you their financial package UNTIL May 1st. This creates a pretty big problem.

Any thoughts on this?

If you are in this situation, please email the admissions office. I think you will find that we, or rather our admissions officers, are not unreasonable.🙂

(I'm pretty sure a bunch of people were in the same spot last year.)

So, I'm an absolute failure that has nothing better to do than obsess over status updates for schools, so, without further due, below is my completed Financial aid status.

Fingers crossed for MAD FINANCIAL AID.

Check your status guys!

Not that it helps your situation, LTTP, but for the CP they have promised award letters by the revisit (no sooner).

I gotta get you on a snowboard V-dizzle. We could totally smash Brandywine / Boston mills (30 minutes from the Cleve). The mountain isn't very steep but theres a terrain park.

Ride some righteous boxes and grind some crunchy rails brah.

Either way, you're my in to the Cleveland Clinic man. UP and CP unite!

Hmmm...snowboards and Vc777 don't mix...I've had this constant and nagging feeling that gravity has been working against me my whole life...I wonder why. Yeah, putting me on a low friction surface with high potential energy is playing right into gravity's hand....

Does anyone know if this is true for the UP, or if there is some kind of time line for UP award letters? Thanks.

So I haven't heard back by email yet, and I still can't get through to them by phone, and my financial aid status still doesn't show receipt of anything. Has anyone also been having trouble with this? I'm calling 216-368-3666, the number on the website, and they have never picked up... 🙁

A cursory look shows this number at the bottom of the website:
216.368.2000

I don't know about this other one..
Don't know if that helps? :xf:

I called today around 310pm and received an answer at that number. I hadn't had any luck with the number for the financial aid director that Myuu posted earlier.

How do we withdraw acceptances from other places? Need to prepare for April 15. 😀

I said yes to a school before I got the yes from CCLCM. Do I just call up or email the other school and withdraw?

so the waitlist letter for cclcm says that a response is due june 1st...does this mean they aren't taking anyone off the list until after june 1st?

Call them to give them a heads up...but tell them you will send an e-mail to confirm your withdraw. Come to the dark side!

OMGOSH!!!

Revisit weekend email!!!!

YAY!!!
Just as a heads up for the rest of you waiting to hear back from CCLCM regarding their alternate list (their choice of words, not mine): I received an invitation to be on this list yesterday in the mail (I'm in the central midwest).
I was also invited to join CCLCM alternate list.
CCLCM waitlist here too. I actually got the letter on Saturday but I didn't see it between a few other letters. So there's still a chance.
👍

Got my official rejection in the mail today. Guess I'm reapplying in a year.

Good luck to all those still waiting!
Reeeejected from CCLCM. Got it in the mail either Friday or Saturday. It's been real. It's been fun. Good luck next year guys.
Sorry, guys. 🙁

Question to the UP/CP people: how do you like the University Circle area? Is there enough to do? Does it feel safe? Does it have that pseudo-urban feel that other universities (like Vanderbilt and U of Pittsburgh) have? It was raining on my interview day so I can't remember what the surrounding area looked like.

And the medical school is connected to the rest of the university, right?
I feel like I should make a list of answers for your list of questions. 😛

  • I like the University Circle area fine.
  • It depends on what you like to do. There are a bunch of museums, which is the kind of thing that I like to do. So in my case, yes. 😀
  • Concerning safety, I would just caution you that Case is an urban campus (as is CCF), and you should use common sense. I have never had a problem in the four years that I have lived here, but then again, I don't go looking for trouble, either.
  • I'm not sure what you mean by a pseudo-urban feel like Nashville or Pittsburgh, so I'm skipping this question.
  • Yes, the med school is located on the Case campus, as is University Hospitals/Rainbow Babies. CCF and the VA are both close by but on their own campuses. Metro is on the other side of town.

Call me crazy, but I'm considering buying a condo in the Cleveland heights / shaker heights area. I have a bit of a lump-sum in my savings ($25k), and it seems like theres actually a few decent looking condo options in the area for that price, 1-2 bedrooms. When I add in property taxes (assume 1K/year) and maintenance fees ($125 month), the monthly costs would average at ~ $650-$750, which is about the same as renting, but I would have some property at the end of my 4 years (the value of which is certainly debatable).

I'll be contacting some real estate agents and maybe having a look during an extended second look weekend. What do you guys think about this? Too much of a headache? Should I just rent?

I'd appreciate it if older applicants / students could chime in, I'm rather unexperienced in owning property.
All of this is my personal opinion, and others may completely disagree. But FWIW, I am a strong advocate of renting rather than buying. I thought about buying a condo when I got here also. Not doing it was probably the best financial and quality of life decision I've ever made.

First, owning property can involve significant hassle. Cleveland has some of the oldest housing stock in the entire nation--the building I live in is about 100 years old. Things can and do go wrong when you're living in a neighborhood with character, so to speak. But bad things can happen even in new buildings, and it's added stress you don't need while you're in school. If the toilet breaks, YOU stay home to wait for the repairman. YOU pay to fix it with your own money that you likely don't have. YOU deal with the aftermath (cleanup, other repairs, etc.) Whereas, when I have a problem, I call the landlord and tell him it needs to be fixed, and he deals with it.

Second, unless you're planning to settle in Cleveland permanently (which is not safe to assume, since you aren't guaranteed to match here for residency), you run the risk of being upside down (i.e., owing more than your house is actually worth) when it comes time to sell. Nationally, the housing market is depressed. Cleveland, like all other rust belt cities, has been hit particularly hard. Being under pressure to sell the house within the next three months because you wound up matching in Texas is not an ideal situation. Being an absentee landlord (trying to rent the house out while you're living out of state) is also not an ideal situation.

Third, the cost of buying and maintaining a home is more than you're estimating. You will want to have it inspected before you buy it. You will have to pay your realtor's fees. Also, your so-called fixed costs can change. Depending on the type of mortgage you get, you could find that your costs skyrocket from one year to the next. The local government is tax trigger-happy and corrupt, so tax rates could increase. You will have other costs you haven't thought about yet, like insurance for fire, theft, etc. You will have to pay to keep it heated in the winter, which is not cheap. You will probably want to have it sprayed for insects in the summer. Etc, etc, etc.

Some of my classmates did buy, so it was doable. But for all the reasons I gave, I'm still not going to buy even when I become a resident next year. My feeling is, if you want an investment, open a retirement account once you start residency.

Not that it helps your situation, LTTP, but for the CP they have promised award letters by the revisit (no sooner).
Right, they will give them out at the revisit.

You can call if you want, but you should also send them an email or snail mail letter.

Not necessarily. It depends on when other people drop their acceptances. When spots open up, then people will be taken off the waitlist to fill them.

Call them to give them a heads up...but tell them you will send an e-mail to confirm your withdraw. Come to the dark side!

😀

Givin that evildoer CCLCMer a taste of her own medicine. Well played.
I have to let him win every once in a while. Otherwise, his spirit would be so crushed that he'd stop playing, you know? 😉

the dark side? o.o

funny, because it was cloudy and gloomy and kind of dark today, where I'm at. Does that mean I should stay here then and not move to Cleveland? :meanie:

It was indeed darker and cloudier. Sunny with highs in the 60s today, though!

So is there a bookstore with Casemed specific gear? If so, will we get a chance to go there during 2nd look? My dad's b-day is right after 2nd look and he would be overjoyed to get a Case Med sweatshirt. I arrive at 2 on Friday, so if it's only open weekday/business hours...I could definitely make it.

They have both sweatshirts and t-shirts for the med school. There may also be headwear options, but they are closed on the weekends. They're open until five on the weekdays (and are right across Euclid in the Thwing student center), though!👍

Ha! :smack: I didn't realize that Case's mascot is a Spartan! As a Michigan wolverine, this makes me a little nervous! Although, it looks like they downplay the spartan somewhat...I don't see it on the althetic jerseys in the pictures.

It this school motto: "No, dang it! Not Michigan State!"

Does anyone know when financial aid offers are going to be made? Do merit scholarship applicants get notified at the same time or do those offers get made separately?

Also, when's the last day to tell Case whether we will be attending or not? Some of my other schools have told me that their financial aid package is going to be sent in early May. We have until May 15th to hold one acceptance right?

this has probably been asked already so i apologize in advance

the acceptance letter for Case said you gotta tell them if you're going or not by May 1st, since classes start in July

has anyone received any news about making it onto the alternate list from UP hold?

has anyone received any news about making it onto the alternate list from UP hold?

Still waiting here...according to last year's thread, people got notified of their alternative list status on 3/31

For CCLCM applicants:
How many people are on this alternate list and how many are taken off of it each year? (CCLCMer or Myuu...any ideas?)
Thanks! 🙂

I think I broke my F5 by refreshing my inbox all day long >_<
You know you want me, Case!!! You knooooooooooow you do!!! 😀👍
