I think I broke my F5 by refreshing my inbox all day long >_<
You know you want me, Case!!! You knooooooooooow you do!!! 😀👍

Patience, my padawan. Patience.

In other non-news, have some UP-related photos:
The pre-dawn BRB, northeast approach
The Window Lounge, also pre-dawn
Walking in past the library
The sun starts to peek out behind the Waldorf
The window lounge
A certain lounge with windows
That self-same lounge with the (omg) windows

(I am in and yet not in one of these pictures.)

And one more from a much colder day: downtown skyline as seen from the west side over a frozen Lake Erie (taken with iPhone, so supergrainy.)

Sunny and 57º with an expected high in the mid-seventies. It's time to flee to the Cleve.

Just got accepted of the UP hold list via phone call by Dr. Mehta. This is unbelievable.

Emailed Christian to update my daytime phone number, realizing that my cell phone doesn't work well in the hospital here!

Patience, my padawan. Patience.
Patience: not exactly my strong suit! This process certainly teaches (forces) patience tho >_<

And for a bit of MCAT-induced nostalgia/terror, would that be a real or virtual image?:meanie::meanie::meanie:

(Congrats to recently accepted students!)

For CCLCM applicants:
How many people are on this alternate list and how many are taken off of it each year? (CCLCMer or Myuu...any ideas?)
Thanks! 🙂
Sorry, I don't know how many people are on the waitlist. I can try to find out for you. I also don't know how many people will be accepted from the waitlist. Last year, CCLCM gave out approximately 50 acceptances, so it was around 18 people. But since the class is so small, it could easily be several more or less this year depending on how many of the current acceptees decide to attend or withdraw. We won't have a good idea for at least another 4-6 weeks.

Welcome home: KFC's own Double Down

kfc-double-down.jpg

I just saw this today, and it blew my mind. I wanted to share the awesomeness with everyone. KFC is continuing forward with its "Double down" the bread-less sandwich FOR KINGS AND BADA**ES. The double down is heading for a USA wide release April 12th, 2010. It was tested briefly last year with some success, so keep your eyes open.

more like doubled over. gross.

Welcome to the boards! Great reason to start an account

And where's your inventiveness? I would have expected something more catchy, like "Doubly Disgusting" or "Double Death: Eat once die twice." For me, the two D's stand for: Delicious, and Crazy Delicious. I cant wait to try it out!

Sorry, not on the topic of KFC (although I have to agree, there is too much going on in that sandwich...). But, does anyone think there's a chance of a few acceptances going out when they make the waitlist? I'm probably too hopeful here.

Ok, word is that there are approximately 30 people on the waitlist.

Come on, that was a clever answer, even if it didn't have two Ds.

CCLCMer, any idea how many of those were invited to second look?

You know that unauthorized advertisements are against the SDN TOS, right? Seeing as you are not an entity representing KFC (or at least I assume you are not), I will interpret this as extreme enthusiasm.👍

Edit:
Took some more pictures yesterday, but didn't really get anything good.

Slightly better composed view of the back of campus. I have had panic-inducing uncontrollable acceleration incidents with all 3 of the declines pictured/implied. I should probably learn how to brake. It's a good thing I'm always wearing my helmet. </helmetdisclaimer> (The building to the right of the sign is the dental school. Coincidentally, that sign is a terrible speed bump.)

Sort of generic view of UH, also from the back of campus (i.e. the corner of Circle and Cornell).

I find it strangely appropriate that the Cleveland Clinic is, after all, #1 for cardiac care. 😛

I don't know exactly. I think about 40 people were invited total, so it's probably around 8 or so.

It's also hilarious because there's a McDonald's in the basement or first floor at CC too.
Word is that they'll be going away as soon as their contract is up.

pumped for second look weekend?
It's going to be awesome. The weather even seems to be cooperating--64 and sunny as I type this. 😀

🙁 I like McChickens and their fries...not to mention Egg Mcmuffin (and for the healthier bunch, yogurt parfaits)

Debbie Downer says weather.com states Cleveland will be experiencing rain on Wed-Fri. And rain for you tonight.

I like the fries too. You can get a small fry for $1. But alas, at some point the only available fries will be the soggy excuse they make for fries in the cafeteria. :barf:

Personal preferences aside, I can't argue with the CEO's drive to make the food choices more healthy. He took all the candy out of the vending machines, for example, which people grumble about sometimes. But the people who grumble are often the very people who need to have the candy locked up out of their reach. :d

Well, weather.com can say what it wants. But at the moment, there are no clouds in the sky whatsoever as twilight descends upon the Cleveland realm. Bring your 😎 just in case.

The problem is the healthier food options are more expensive, often prohibitively so for many in the Cleveland area. The McDonald's at CCF is always the busiest of all the food joints there.

See, this has always struck me as being a circular argument. Part of the reason why SOME healthier food options are more expensive is that not enough people buy them. If lots of people bought sushi and few people bought hamburgers, then sushi would get a lot cheaper because it would be economical to mass-produce it.

However, I don't think cost is the real issue, because some healthier options are cheaper than less healthy options, and people still don't buy them. For example, it's cheaper to buy a pound of tofu or a can of beans than it is to buy a pound of beef or chicken, but the real problem is that most people don't want to eat tofu and beans. They'd rather eat that sandwich that Meat posted on the last page. Similarly, it's cheaper to buy a yam than it is to buy a bag of potato chips. But people would rather eat the potato chips. I'll grant you that produce can be exorbitantly priced sometimes. But even if you can't afford fresh veggies, you can afford frozen ones. Dave's had them on sale, five bags for $10.

The McDonald's at CCF is always the busiest of all the food joints there.
Yes, McDonald's is always the busiest place in the cafeteria, but I still think people's love of high-fat, high-calorie food is what drives a lot of that. And all joking about drumming up your own business aside, having that restaurant in the cafeteria sends the wrong message to CCF's patients and staff.

I'm pretty excited, but does it strike anyone else as odd that the CCLCM revisit activities begin at 2:30pm while the check in time at the hotel is 3:00pm? Also, has anyone heard back about those research interest meetings yet?

Hmm. I would go to the hotel before 2:30 and ask them to let you check in a little early. If they won't let you do that, then ask them to hold your luggage for you at the front desk, and you can check in later.

Did they put you guys up at the Intercontinental Suites again? If so, it's right across the street from the Foundation House, which I believe is where you'll be Thursday afternoon. I'd better double-check that now that we're talking about it, because I'm supposed to be on the student panel that afternoon! Ok, I have down that the student panel is at the Foundation House, starting at 3 PM. I guess you have a welcome speech or something beforehand. Then we have dinner afterward. Just so you know, the Foundation House is swanky. It's a mansion, as a matter of fact. Too bad they don't let the students live there. 😛

Oh I've had an account for some time now. I just don't think anything has merited a response from me moreso than KFC's Double Down.

i wish i was going to second look 🙁

Send me a picture of you and I will attempt to make a cardboard cutout you for circulation at Friday's mixer. Granted, I won't be there either, so it'll be a job I push off on someone else along with a cardboard cutout of me (or something).:laugh::laugh:

See the rest of you UP types on Saturday morning, though.👍

It's surprising to read this, I guess more hospitals have McDonalds than I thought. Our biggest inner-city hospital has a giant McDonalds inside, and I understand the hospital revenue argument, and it's convenient, but I wish the CEO had the same attitude about the message it gives. It's just downstairs from the diabetes clinic 🙄

I feel like this has been asked before, but I don't remember and can't find the answer. What's the dress for the second look events? I'm assuming that aside from the dinners, it's casual, but I just want to make sure.
