Perhaps I'm just too tired to understand legal jargon right now, but I did the entrance counseling and it confused me more than I was before. My parents make too much money for me to get additional financial aid. Unfortunately, I have been financially independent from my parents for several years and they will not be contributing to the payment for my medical education. Can I apply for a GradPLUS loan and if not, where do people go to get money?

Got off the waitlist today! Got a call from dean franco 🙂

I am surprised you stayed on the wait-list. You must have really loved the school, or hated UofChicago to be considering foregoing a full-ride there. Good luck choosing.

I'm guessing that getting a full ride at UChicago is less of a swaying factor if he got into CCLCM (and not just Case at full tuition)

That is understandable. I assumed it was the University program.

I've had my nose deep in older pages looking at apartments advice 😉

For those who drive to campus (UP) - what is parking really like? How much does it cost for a permit, and how far from the medical building is it? Are there always spots, or is it ridiculously overstuffed?

I ask because my undergrad campus was beyond absurd. Parking lots were like 50% oversold and there was never a spot within like a mile of the buildings. You had to park and THEN take a bus to class...seriously.

Parking at Case is pretty ridiculous (in the expensive sense), to be honest. The most popular place for students is the Veale garage, I believe it's $60-70/month, but is a short walk from the med school building. There's no problem finding parking, however since they close the lot to visitors if it starts to fill up.

CCLCM graduation was today and Case-wide graduation (UP + CCLCM + MSTP) is tomorrow. Woohoo for all the new MDs! :hardy:

As a side note, I can't believe that is going to be me a year from now. Gulp.

Congratulations to all the new MDs! Alas, now it's your turn to get stressed out by the residency match.

Awesome, congratulations too! Have you decided if you're coming yet?

Hello all! So, since I know that lots of Case students check this thread regularly, I thought that it would be nice to get some input on an important decision: NYU vs Case. I got pulled off the waitlist at NYU just yesterday, hence the post-May 15th decision drama.
I love NYC and I am more used to the lecture style format of NYU. HOWEVER, I am not sure how lecture format stacks up to the self-study format that reigns at Case. Which is better in the long run? Is the extra work involved in self-study and exploration worth the time in your opinion?
The other issue is that NYU is slightly less expensive than Case (~7000).
Any thoughts on the pros and cons of each? And if I missed a thread comparing the two, please direct me there =)
Really, really would appreciate any thoughts! If you don't want to spam the list, feel free to PM me.

Oh, sure, go ahead and yuck it up. But just so you know, four years goes by a lot quicker than you think it will.... 😛

I officially accepted my offer from Case! Case is so awesome!😍
Awesome! I absolutely agree think that WaitingWasWorthIt 😀 Look forward to meeting you in July!

I tried to get into the Case Facebook group (yes, I created a Facebook finally!)...but I don't have a Case email. I haven't gotten much else from them either, which I imagine they're waiting until they've gotten my signed letter (signed and returned the next morning!). Is that how it went for the rest of you who've confirmed acceptance the UP program? How long did it take for stuff like financial aid info and etc?

Oh, that was a typo... I meant best wishes for the year ahead and that all your hard work will pay off soon! 😉

Not having a Case email did not stop me from joining the Facebook group. It won't stop you either. 🙂

Has anyone heard of any UP waitlist movement after last monday's (5/10) wave of acceptances?

I'm starting to think they overaccepted quite a bit. What with 5/10's acceptances and what not. And there will probably be hardly any movement.. 🙁

I don't know.. all speculations.. noone knows

I dunno, doesn't really seem to make sense to me... If they were still overaccepted by a large number of people, they wouldn't have pulled people off the wait list. And if they weren't and started to pull people off the wait list, it would make more sense to offer WL positions cautiously, for roughly around the number of spots they have available. But like you said, who knows!

Also don't forget that the 5/10 guys were given until today (I think? or maybe yesterday) to decide whether or not they were accepting spots. So that plus the May 15th movements, they're probably getting situated and figuring out how many spots they have and all that. Stay positive!:luck:

I agree "WaitingWasWorthIt," but I am still on 2 wait lists, so WaitingStillSucks! I got into the Facebook group without a Case email as well. And I got an email soon after the acceptance offer explaining the laptop policy. On your iApply account there are two tabs, one for financial aid and one for laptops. You won't get financial aid until you send them W2s, taxes, and fill out a needaccess application. I sent the signed letter but also called and he told me verbal confirmation was enough to update my file to confirm that I had accepted the offer. He also told me that they were just about ready to send out an email that would tell us all the pre-matriculation stuff we have to do. Hope this helps🙂

That definitely helps! Thank you, I didn't look through my iapply for other tabs, so that could be what I'm missing. I got the email about laptops but will go through iapply today and figure it out. And I'll try the Facebook thing again. I'm quite a newb at it.

Edit: found the financial aid section - I had glossed over it at the top of the page. I definitely wanted to get started on this ASAP, so thank you for pointing it out! ^_^

No problem! Good luck! It's basically like doing the FAFSA all over again!

What's up, Meat? How's it hanging?

It's like you can SEE INTO MY COMPUTER.

I'm just lounging about, trying to come up with some methods of wasting time before July. I've been playing some SC2 in the Beta, thats fun.

You V-Money? Hows life treating you? I'm sure you must be thrilled about the moving process with a family  Thats a LOT of stuff to relocate. Are you trucking it? Hiring someone? Pod type thing?

The war between Elves, Men and Dwarves (respectively) finally nears its brutal end. EPIC BATTLE TO THE 6,000th POST.

Speaking of Dwarves, I watched the entire extended edition of Lord of the Rings this week, it just gets better each time. I've had all the books since I was a kid and during my my high school years I got the ENTIRE SERIES on CD. LOTR marathon drive from So-Cal, here I come.😀

Your twin should stop urinating on people.

And he's also trapped in a closet somewhere

What is the parking situation like at Case Western? I called Case and they said that parking was first come first served on June 7th and that students signed up online. Unfortunately, I was put on permanent hold after. What is the website we would use to sign up for parking? Do we pay for a specific/numbered parking spot or do we pay for access to the parking lot? Is parking usually a problem during the mornings (ie: will I have to scramble to find parking every morning)?
